Tangled au for a tangled au. In which Varian grew up in the eternal library with his mom, and Hugo goes to the library to steal a specific book.Varian doesn’t make it easy of course, and while he has the knowledge of the world at his fingertips, he wants the EXPERIENCE. He wants to get his hands on some potassium nitrate and he wants to see living creatures. He wants to examine rocks and metals and study cultures in person, and he can’t exactly do that from within a library.
Varian was raised to believe that it was his responsibility and soul purpose to keep the world out of the library, and he needed to keep the knowledge safe where no one could reach it. Ulla convinced him that the results of others gaining this knowledge could be disastrous, and so she trusted him to stand his post. But the temptation of getting out into the world is too strong, so when he meets Hugo, he makes a deal with him. If Hugo took him out for a full day and brought him back to the library unharmed, then Varian would willingly hand over the book Hugo tried so hard to steal.
This au takes place years after the tangled movie, so when Varian meets Rapunzel, the two understated each other a little too much XD and Eugene is having serious dejavu
