I often think about this exchange, especially the last shot where Levi is looking out of the corner of his eye. Like he’s making EXTRA sure that Hange isn’t upset with him, but he’s trying to be chill about it.

this made me remember levi's codename during the uprising arc which is manga exclusive for very obvious reasons.

this is an extremely niche piece of trivia because it only exists in the japanese translation of the manga and it's cobbled together japanese and german. also there's nuance to the very specific linguistics.

"ergelchen" to the german pronunciation "elgelhein".

but a portion of the kanji comes from erwin's name so speculatively it means something like "erwin's little angel". which can be understood in a couple different ways, either one of isayama's vague nods to the ship or in a teasing/ironic way (levi "blindly" going along with erwin's plans to overthrow the government and his obedience in general for someone like levi).

in the aot universe i imagine it doesn't really mean anything and if it does it'd be the same thing as "little" meaning undercover/literally short + "angel" meaning something like "powerful"
