I am supposed to be sleeping, but I am too excited
I made a thing! The thing being an adjustable skirt with a drawstring waist that will fit anybody with a waist size of 15-70 inches. And this one was mostly for proof of concept, cause I plan on making (and hopefully selling?) many many more.
Anyways, it's up on my Ko-Fi page right now if anybody in Canada is interested in purchasing it
On April 16th 2025 the US federal government has proposed to change the interpretation of the endangered species act so that it no longer protects habitat.
This is open for public comment until the end of May 19th. Please comment and make your voice heard.
Wildlife need their habitat. If the ESA redefines harm so that habitat is no longer protected, the implications for wildlife would be catastrophic.
Creative writing is way closer to engineering than I think a lot of people expect. It takes creativity and imagination to decide what to write about. It takes a lot of honed dedication to craft to really make the word-to-word prose sparkle. But all the stuff in between? Knowing how long an idea should be, what medium it should be, how many characters, and how their motivations need to interact, all that shit is basically engineering.
All that plot and structure shit is the bones. I think it really trips some writers up. I think it's why writing a novel feels like torture for poets (poor fundamentals, all schmoovement), and why half-decent essayists can rapidly churn out slop (strong fundamentals, poor tech).
Clean it up hiro….
Former infosec worker here, my 2 cents on this:
>4chan was running on an EXTREMELY OLD version of php so it was vulnerable as fuck
>hacker found vulnerability back on 2021 and played the long game so they could take down the entire site
>alongside admin info, entire source code leaked
>site used deprecated connections to MySQL server, insecure as shit
>site had a file with whitelisted countries that could post freely while others needed to wait for 900 SECONDS TO GET THE CAPTCHA.
>whole code base needs to be updated in order to get the server running up again, which could take a long long time, and could be deemed not worthy by Hiro, so this may actually be the end of 4chan
Remember kids, update and patch vulnerabilities if you don't want to get nuked out of the face of the earth by the hacker known as 4chan
thinking about that kakapo egg that got crushed but the conservation team patched it up and it survived
life will persist against all odds
For those who don’t follow kakapo conservation, they are critically endangered parrots who only breed on years where the rimu tree they rely on meet a certain threshold of fruit production. One breeding season in 4 years can be typical, and about half of all eggs laid by kakapo are infertile (they still aren’t completely certain why, it could be a recent population bottleneck) so each fertile egg is worth its weight in gold.
This was one of only 5 fertile eggs laid on the Whenua Hou island population in the 2014 breeding season and it got crushed by its mother on accident. It was mended with glue and tape and incubated by the rangers until hatching.
At 150 days old kakapo chicks are officially added to the population total and given a unique name, until then they are given their mother’s name and a number for birth order laid in the clutch. This chick was known as Lisa-one before officially being given the name Ruapuke by local indigenous Ngai Tahu people. Here he is grown up:
It’s sad when a species is so rare we know them all individually but at the same time I love that you can point at this one bird and say oh that’s Ruapuke, his mom sat on him too hard
the traditional printing press is one of the oldest and most significant machines in history actually
Sex is cringe. "Hey do you wanna come over and play boners together?" What naked bullshit. They have played us for fools.
unfortunately this comment a TERF made on one of my posts is genuinely hysterical
This a a reminder to not fall victim to the sunk-cost fallacy. Just because you invested time and energy into something, does not mean you should indefinitely waste more time and energy on it, if you decide it’s not what you want anymore. This goes for anything, from books, to relationships, to jobs, to hobbies, etc.
If it’s not serving you anymore, move on.
This is honestly one of the places I find Marie Kondo's advice most helpful. I stop, look at the thing I've spent time and money on only to realize I dislike, and I say, "Thank you for teaching me something about myself and my preferences. I think I've learned this particular lesson and we can part ways now."
And then I don't feel like I "wasted" things or made a mistake. I just tried one path of learning about myself, learned something, and now it's time for a different path. Works a lot better for my brain.
WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU EVER POST YOUR FULL NAME AND ADDRESS YOU STUPID FUCKING CUNT YOU DESERVE TO GET SWATTED
Do you honest to god think my full name is Walter Hartwell White and I live at 308 Negra Arroyo Lane
