i'm not upset with the decision to put luke in the car for fp1 this week for a few reasons

  • fp1 won't be representative of actual quali/race conditions (day practice, night race)
  • carlos has already done a ton of laps around bahrain in this car
  • two free practices per car have to go to rookies this year (so, four per team). probably better for one of those to happen on the track where carlos has already driven a ton of laps. if he gives up this one now, he'll get to keep one at a trickier circuit later
  • forgiving circuit with big runoff areas. low chance (🧿) of damaging the car (🧿 🧿 🧿)
  • i can't imagine he wasn't involved in that decision

five other teams (so far) are putting rookie drivers in the cars in fp1 this week for a lot of the same reasons. it's all good.

carlos quality that Gets Me every time is when he defends like a lion against a faster car that will inevitably get past. we all know it's doomed but he WILL not be giving up. monza 2023. austria 2023. it's gallant and heartbreaking every time
