Just saw a blog say โ€œbeware of upper caste folks they are bad.โ€ On a Tumblr post. Tell me that isnโ€™t casteist af? Seriously, what do you all want?

They are being so openly casteist and they are not ashamed of anything.

Casteism of all kind is horrible and if you donโ€™t think it is then you are part of the problem. You are literally responsible for keeping the caste system running.

Do some self reflection.

What woah? Theyโ€™re going full mask off. dismiss any and everything coming out of an upper caste Hinduโ€™s mouth (code word for : anyone who isnโ€™t actively being anti hindu)

My last response to all u dumb bitches (literally, u people r not worth my peace).

The scripture Manusmriti is the most vile thing known to mankind equally violent as other religious scriptures. If u read it (like Dr. Ambedkar did but I am sure all of u never read), it clearly espouses a varna sys wherein it is not only highly misogynist but patriarchal and very casteist. (Read: 'Caste: Its Mechanism, Genesis and Dev). so Manusmriti deserves to be burned and ur religion is not better than any religion. Also if u read the Annihilation of Caste. Ambedkar said Hindus r mean people bcoz they will only ever be loyal to their castes. Unlike Muslims and Christians who use cruelty, Hindus may not but also unlike Muslims and Christians, Hindus will never look out for each other bcoz they will see their caste first. Also check how many inter-caste couples get shot or Dalit men being beaten when they get married like upper caste people. Being a keyboard warrior is good when u know nothing of the ground-reality.

Also, caste and varna r the same thing. Indian society wasn't a fairy dreamtopia before the British. Rampant casteism, misogyny and patriarchy (Read Uma Chakravarti: Gendering Caste and Beyond the Altekarian Paradigm) defined Hindu Society, the British fucked it up a bit more. Also, the word 'caste' is a Spanish word used for the varna sys. So Varna and caste r the same things, stop being so dumb. Varna/caste sys is a shit sys and needs to be abolished which u bitches r clearly not doing since u ofc benefit from it. If hinduism as an oppressive sys enables marginalization, it needs to be overthrown like Ambedkar envisioned.

Also, Kayasthas were able to be socially mobile acc to a process called 'Sanskritization' (M.N. Srinivas). But keep in mind, that they were hated by Brahmins for transcending their 'low' status. So Sanskritization isn't easy. Look at when in villages, Dalit men climb horses for their weddings and they r brutally beaten by upper-caste dickheads or even Dalit women r forcibly raped by upper-caste men (Baby Kamble; The Prisons We Broke). Please comment on this also. Hinduism is a great religion! Why not!!

Hinduism is a not a fairy dreamtopia like u think it is. Upper-caste people thrive on Dalit exclusion and oppression. And dickheads on the net like u shout "Hindu khatre mein hai' when nobody is as obsessed as Muslims as u r with them. If u want to bring change, support reservation (Which u people will burn your asses in gasoline but never do) and not die whenever u see someone eating meat. Go fuck yourselves. Secularism is dead in India and so is equality, liberty, and fraternity.

Peace and I hope u people suffer 10 times the pain Dalits hv suffered for centuries. Also, read more. It is good for your tiny brains. I would suggest more works of Dr. Ambedkar, Uma Chakravarti, Romila Thapar, Kancha Illiah, M.N. Srinivas etc.

And yes, to fight oppression, I will always go full mask off.

Also, if being anti-upper caste (who hv done nothing but cause pain to Dalits) is being anti-Hindu. Then I will gladly be Anti-Hindu (Ambedkar said the same thing btw that casteism=Hinduism)

Boo Fucking hoo that people r calling out upper caste bitches.

Also @rhysaka, babe if u r not upper-caste and supporting Hindutva, I pity u. U r digging ur own grave. Get away from the internalized casteism and misogyny in u. I hope u find ur peace. Also, I am a 'reverse casteist' wholeheartedly if it means supporting Dalit and Muslim rights and not bowing down to Zionism and Hindutva and calling out casteists (Just wanted to let u know ;))

Free Palestine! Jai Bhim! Lal Salaam! Falasteen Aabaad Bashaad! Falasteen Azaad Bashaad.

And also Fuck u :))

You said something in another reblog about "hindu lives matter." You see we don't consider dalits and scavengers or whoever you talked about as being outside the hindu fold. When we say hindu lives matter we mean the lives of all hindus matter. (Yes many dalits are hindus. I am a hindu and Iโ€™m not upper caste.)

And Hindu lives matter doesn't mean that the lives of anybody else, say muslims matters any less than us.

Everyone matters. Humanity matters and for the greater good of humanity casteism must end. If you think any differently then just say so.

Idc weather it is varna or plain caste or whatever. Iโ€™m a person who wants it gone from our society for good. Also you spoke of reservations. Fine, I support reservations because casteism is still a big problem in society. But for how long? Can you stop people from hating each other and the mass violence that erupts over reservations? Can you stop the blatant hindu hatred in neo buddhist circles as well? And if someone dares to condemn them for their hatred there is an army of people like you who hurl abuses at them.

And you are no different than the casteists you hate. Look at yourself! You are asking for 10 times the pain that dalit people have suffered in the past on others. These people who were not even breathing on this earth when all that happened. People who had no control over their birth. What are you doing if not being casteist? Be fr. Ik people born in upper caste circles are privileged and all as compared to the dalits but arenโ€™t we punishing them for crimes that they never committed? Isnโ€™t this THE VERY CASTEISM THAT WE HATE??? PUNISHING SOMEONE FOR BEING BORN IN A CERTAIN GROUP? HATING EVERYONE FROM THAT GROUP? ABUSING EVEN THOSE WHO SPEAK OF ENDING THE CASTE SYSTEM?

I know you wonโ€™t understand this. Ik you are too full of hate to take even one word I said seriously and youโ€™ll only end up ridiculing me because hate destroys rational thinking and compassion.

Tbh this is too much for me. I cannot tolerate the hate I get from people like you. I have met so many people from all communities but never have I felt so much hate as I did rn interacting with you guys and I always feel this when I interact with radicalised people who know nothing but spouting hate for someone and being proud about it. Sure your institutions and the marxist historians who wrote our history provide yโ€™all with a solid backing and that is where all of this is coming from.

Btw you spoke of Ambedkar, do you even know what Ambedkar wrote about Muslims?

Just never interact with my blog ever again.

This was literally so unhinged.

@rhysaka Aww I am so sorry u got butthurt on basic history. But your level of whataboutery is insane, gurl.

Reservation deserves to be implemented as long as people like u claim your 'imagined casteism.' Hv u ever cleaned a family's leftovers, have u ever been humiliated for your surname, have u ever been forced to breastfeed someone else's child, have u ever been excluded, or oppressed just bcoz u don't hv the proper surname?

NO.

But yes when someone calls out this oppression, u people r like pls don't do reverse casteism. Babe, people like u should be thankful reservations r in place and dalits r doing things via the legal route. If Dalits started behaving as upper caste people did in the oast, all upper-caste people would hv been lynched by now.

Also, reservation is not bad and is sorely needed. But when ur caste comrades get hysterical over it, then that is not a Dalit person's problem when the latter has been excluded and oppressed for so long.

Also love ur priorities. When I wished upon u the pain of Dalits, instead of focusing on the pain they hv gone thru, u were more interested in how it would affect the butthurt sanghis who implode when someone mispronounced their surname incorrectly

Really shows how u care abt upper castes more than Dalit pain. Technically, u r not a humanist. Simply a misguided know it all who is infected with internalized casteism and misogyny. I will pray for u.

Also I don't hate upper castes. I just DESPISE their misuse of their privilege and their discrimination and elitism.

If u want me to love them, then tell each of ur upper caste comrades to stop being dickheads and then I will promise u, I will love them as much as I love anyone else. Also if u wanna know more abt the relation bw Buddhism and Hinduism read Dr. Ambedkar. Btw, Brahmins hated Buddhists first not the other way round (Read Madness of Manu by Sharmila Rege).

Also as a humanist, Dalit lives Matter and I couldn't care less abt upper caste bitches being offended by my post. It's not HATE just POINTING OUT THE FACTS. And if that makes u butthurt and kindly Suck it and leave (really shows ur casts privilege).

Also, what abt dr.Ambedkar writing on Muslims tho? How is it relevant to this argument. Could you read more of Ambedkar before u come here? U see I understand a Sanghi brain can't always comprehend basic sociology, but I would invite u to try genuinely. U can even read all these of my sources and we can hv a book review literally.

Also I will shit on upper caste privilege, as long as they act like dickeheads to Dalits and Muslims. This is not reverse casteism. This is being aware and breaking the status quo.

Also @ghost-of-the-wind, if this discourse was a table, what do u bring to it? The only half you bring to the table is your lower half and a barely functional kid brain that is forced to do name-calling with no real argument. Sanghis do be having low IQ ngl if all u do is call people 'Larpers' and shut down when someone presents u a good argument. Boo fucking Hoo and continue crying and wetting ur bed becoz of it

Peace :))

Love,

From a Proud LARPER ;)

First of all, Iโ€™m not an upper caste person.

Second of all, as a person who has faced casteism I wouldnโ€™t wish it on anyone. That is why I called you out for saying that you wish 10 times more pain on others.

No one is denying that casteism exists. We are advocating for a caste free society.

Unlike you, I donโ€™t think of caste based distinctions when I speak of Hindus.

To me a dalit is as much a hindu as an upper caste person. The solution isnโ€™t wishing pain on others. The solution is building bridges and educating people. To show people how dalits have suffered without calling for the same to happen to others. If you can make that distinction then sure Iโ€™ll support everything you say.

And as I told you Iโ€™m not against reservations. We need it because people still cling to their castes and oppress others. Our education system has failed us in properly educating people about caste and showing us how dalits suffered and instilling kinship with them.

Iโ€™m all for upliftment of Dalits and talking about casteism but I wonโ€™t sit through it translating into hatred for others. Are you capable of doing that? Are you capable of sitting through a talk about casteism without throwing words like โ€œupper caste bitches, Sanghi bitchesโ€ into the conversation? Condemnation of upper caste privilege is necessary but when it turns into hatred it will only create more trouble and this wonโ€™t affect us but this will translate on dalits and the low caste more. They have to suffer because of this. But why do I even expect a little responsibility from your end? Your hatred transcends all this. You are not up for a solution but youโ€™re up for creating more hatred by burning bridges.

Casteism can only be solved by bringing people together not flinging them apart.

You want to show how upper caste people oppressed dalits? Go ahead! Do that!

But as a lower caste person I wonโ€™t ever support inequality in any form. I wonโ€™t ever support casteism in any form.

If you get this you get this.

Also regarding what Ambedkar said about muslims, I brought that up because of the slogans you threw at the end. Ambedkar had very firm views about Islam and Muslims and itโ€™s interesting to see this communist-muslim-Ambedkarite tie up. Ambedkar had also said he doesnโ€™t agree with communism.

Ummm ma'am but he did say Muslims are better than Hindus in the Annihilation of Caste. Also, there is a difference b/w Communism, Socialism and Marxism. And I am not a liberal but rather I hate them.

Also, I am sorry u faced casteism. But aligning yourself with Hindutva will not help u if u want to be anti-caste. Stop repeating urself. Also Ambedkar did not consider Dalits as Hindus if u read 'Who were the Shudras'. Read more Dr. Ambedkar as he uplifted people. Also, even if u yourself r not a Dalit person, u r still an oppressor caste person so shut up and fuck off.

I am all for building bridges btw. Build one first from a Dalit's home to a temple and let them enter a temple. Then, I will build a PROPER bridge. Also Stop repeating urself. Casteism against dalits is shit.

Also, I am a hater if Sanghi bitches (oops!) like u get pissed. After all, my love for humanity transcends the hate of ur Hindutva. I will always stand with the victim and never with the oppressor. So yes, build a bridge and tell me when u do. I will meet u srsly and apologize.

Idc if Ambedkar considered Dalits as hindus or not. Iโ€™m speaking facts. There are dalit hindus. Stop being so darn stupid and denying their existence.

Also you claim that you hate communists and liberals, is that why you said โ€œlaal Salamโ€ along with the other slogans? Lol

And thank you for accepting that you hate us. Notice how all the hating is coming from your side. Hindutva believes in annihilation of caste and caste based discrimination.

Now about the temples, big temples of India and most of the other temples are open to all Hindus. There is no discrimination in those temples.

This doesnโ€™t mean that I am denying the discrimination that does happens. Like the cases you mentioned from different parts of the country but these cases donโ€™t represent the full picture that majority of hindu temples allow everyone to enter its doors without asking them for their caste. We are a country of over a billion and casteism still exists so of course you will find such criminal attitudes and cases from bigoted upper caste people but you canโ€™t say that itโ€™s happening in all temples because that would be a blatant lie!

Youโ€™re again projecting these things on everyone and making generalisations. Iโ€™ve never been stopped from entering any temple and neither have my friends who are dalits. We have been to some big temples in India and I can personally attest to this and so would many people.

By building bridges I meant this -

We have a long long way to go before dalits can get proper justice and kinship with others in the society but Iโ€™m hopeful towards the future.

I wish nothing but the caste system to fall and people to accept each other and live together.

If this is hatred then sure Iโ€™m a hateful bigot for saying that casteism cannot be ended by being more hateful.

Please stop replying. This is becoming very repetitive and ik you will keep bringing in more hate and not any solutions.

I said I hate liberals, not Communists. Pls read properly or check ur eyesight. But then again what do I expect. U people don't even know the difference b/w a liberal and a communist. Sad that u cannot do a simple Google search. Truly DUMB of u. READ MORE, dear sanghi.

where does Hindutva believe in caste sys annihilation tho?

and OOOH! I hv seen everyone enter a temple so idt caste discrimination happens. Shows ur privilege smh.

Yes, I hate sanghis. Cry abt it.

Also what u describe is the exception and not the norm so stfu, dim-wit. And read the diff b/w a Liberal and a Communist pls

Also, cry abt ur stupid cult leader M*di. Also, to build bridges, the onus is on savarna bitches to check their privilege and stop oppression. Dali people hv been marginalized for so long. Also, u r too dumb for me. Like I thought u were just sanghi but the fact that u don't know the diff b/w liberalism and communism really disappointed me.

U will never be enough for even a cookie-cutter political debate if u dont read shit and just repeat urself hopelessly. U bore me and U will never be good anything in ur life if u dont know the diff b/w liberalism and communism. Fuck u and ur tiny brain. Just continue to do cult worship and dehumanize Dalits. U dont deserve my attention and neither do u deserve a voice.

Peace :))

@anonymouswarriorhumanist GOD, YOU'RE SUCH A HATER. Your life won't improve by hating a community. You talk so much about the discrimination, but did you ever try to do something about it? Other than wishing 10 times worse for others? Cry baby.

one thing about me is that i will cry. i cry when iโ€™m happy, i cry when iโ€™m sad, i cry when i am angry, i cry when i am tired, and i cry when i think about life

when did tumblr collectively decide not to use punctuation like when did this happen why is this a thing

Avatar
atomicairspace

it just looks so smooth I mean look at this sentence flow like a jungle river

ACTUALLY

This is really exciting, linguistically speaking.

Because itโ€™s not true that Tumblr never uses punctuation. But it is true that lack of punctuation has become, itself, a form of punctuation. On Tumblr the lack of punctuation in multisentence-long posts creates the function of rhetorical speech, or speech that is not intended to have an answer, usually in the form of a question. Consider the following two potential posts. Each individual line should be taken as a post:

ugh is there any particular reason people at work have to take these massive handfuls of sauce packets they know theyโ€™re not going to use like god put that back we have to pay for that stuff

Ugh. Is there any particular reason people at work have to take these massive handfuls of sauce packets they know theyโ€™re not going to use? Like god, put that back. We have to pay for that stuff.

In your head, those two potential posts sound totally different. In the first one Iโ€™m ranting about work, and this requires no answer. The second may actually engage you to give an answer about hoarding sauce packets. And if you answer the first post, you will likely do so in the same style.ย

Hereโ€™s what makes this exciting: the English language has no actual punctuation for rhetorical speechโ€“that is, there are no special marks that specifically indicate โ€œthis speech is in the abstract, and requires no answer.โ€ Not only that, it never has. The first written record of English (actually proto-English, predating even Old English) dates to the 400s CE, so weโ€™re talking about 1600 years of having absolutely no marker whatsoever for rhetorical speech.

A group of teens and young adults on a blogging website literally reshaped a deficit a millennium and a half old in our language to fit their language needs. More! This group has agreed on a more or less universal standard for these new rules, which fits the definition of โ€œlanguage.โ€ Which is to say Tumblr English is its own actual, real, separate dialect of the English language, and because it is spoken by people worldwide who have introduced concepts from their own languages into it, it may qualify as a written form of pidgin.ย

Tumblr English should literally be treated as its own language, because it does not follow the rules of any form of formal written English, and yet it does have its own consistent internal rules. If you donโ€™t think thatโ€™s cool as fuck then I donโ€™t even know what to tell you.

i love this post

This is super cool! Also idk if this has any relevance whatsoever but if you wanna have an argument inside one tag you cannot have commas in it so thatโ€™s a real existing constraint that has forced tumblrites to construct commaless sentences and perhaps this has helped in adopting the custom into posts as well ok I have no idea if this is whatโ€™s happened just I think itโ€™s a reasonable assumption there might be a connection

^this.

The tags are absolutely a factor. You want someone to take a breath in the middle of a sentence, you start a new tag. You want to have, as seen here, this removable piece between commas (does it have a name?) - you have 5 tags in this sentence alone. And sometimes you just

pause in the middle of a sentenceโ€ฆ

and let your voice

trail away

look at all you precious brilliant nerds nerding about language you make me so fucking happy omg

language is this constantly evolving thing tbh, it doesnโ€™t remain the same unless itโ€™s dead and the people who used it gone so seeing the evolution of the language used on tumblr is literally so fucking amazing i want to cry with joy at it

because we also add in words from other languages, or make entirely new words up as additional terms to denote something (see โ€˜tolโ€™ and โ€˜smolโ€™ in relation toย โ€˜tallโ€™ andย โ€˜smallโ€™) and this is constant. we are doing this daily without any sort of breathing space because thereโ€™s millions of us on this hellsite and we are constantly talkingย and so the language changes day-by-day until we have general, universal rules for what to do in a post, what to add in our tags, how to add it, why we add it, what we mean by it

weโ€™ve created a language in the same way our ancestors all did: by building on the ones that came before and changing them to suit our needs and our system

and thatโ€™s fucking awesome okay

awesome

I love this so much and language is so great and Iโ€™ve noticed the lack of punctuation thing recently, even on twitter, and used it for like a specific kind of rhetorical effect. idk itโ€™s so fun I fucking love linguistics and the evolution of language

I also loved that the following one-word responses all sound drastically different out loud and showcase different reactions:

What?

What.

what

you know it also occurs to me that due to how - unlike twitter - we indulge in memes for weeks or months at a time, to the point of some of them becoming shorthand used for years after the fact, we also have a lot of our own oft-incomprehensible-if-translated-literally idioms, of a sort! (not PRECISELY idioms, but theyโ€™re something more than just a funny meme, a lot of times, yโ€™know?)

AND many of them are visual idioms or w/e, is that a thing? we use specific images (or images clearly based on the original image) to indicate a certain emotion or response, often with either not enough words to actually convey the response on their own, or no words at all! But those of us fluent in this dialect know whatโ€™s meant by it and it actually communicates quite clearly. Which is hella cool. :D

Tumblr is one of those sites thatโ€™s insular enough that itโ€™s essentially ended up coming up with a language and culture of its own, to the point where if I interact with someone online whose main social media is Twitter or Reddit I can more or less instantly tell that theyโ€™re Not From Around Here. Itโ€™s cool and a little freaky at the same time.

Tumblr is an island ecosystem and we are the finches evolving more and more highly specialized bills.

Read Because Internet by Gretchen McCulloch! Itโ€™s a lovely book that is very accessible and a joy to read about how different technical restrictions throughout the internetโ€™s history (and early phone texting) have lead to the emergence of dialects and linguistic quirks of written language on forums and blogs and social media

when Franz Kafka said "it's august and I am tired of being strong" and when Kim Addonizio said "we lose june, we lose july, in August we look in the mirrors and want to die" and when Wiliam Faulkner said "some days in late August at home are like this, the air thin and eager with something in it, sad and nostalgic and familiar" and when Zoe Lianne said " Summer dissolves in my mouth and I can't remember what it tasted like" and when taylor swift said "August slipped away like a bottle of wine" and when -
