I swear to God, if someone were to trap 2 million animals, deprive them of food and water, and kill 50,000 of them, the world would be shaken by this catastrophe and brutality.
What's happening is unbelievable, illogical. We are human beings... human beings!!
If we do not die from the occupation's bombing, we will die in the air Please help us and donate to our families here.
Also please tell me where you're from, cos I hear on Tumblr that this phrase is Aussie but I'm Aussie and it doesn't sound fucking Aussie to me. Do foreigners know this? This just seems like a normal fucking sentence.
I notice none of you have told me where youre from, so first of all, disappointed
But secondly of all, what that fuck are you all talking about? Since no one said otherwise, imma assume this is common internationally and you're all just specifically not culturally engaged with your peers. No way first come blessed dressed is aussie slang. It's too normal
I'm American and I've never heard this before in my life until this moment.
I’ve never heard it, and can’t quite puzzle out what it means.
@derinthescarletpescatarian have you ever heard this one?
Yes, it's a very common phrase. I agree, there is no way this is an Aussie thing, if we'd invented it then it would be way weirder. Surely we stole it from the English or the Americans. Someone.
I would never have suspected it was Aussie from its, you know, general demeanour, but the responses being a mix of "I've never heard of this" and "What do you mean you haven't heard it?! I (Australian) hear it all the time (in Australia), literally everyone (in Australia) says it! Clearly it's the kids (non-Australian) who are wrong!" strongly implied this was one of those universal experiences where the universe was one country, and for once it's not the USA.
Oh, that and it makes no fucking sense.
It’s an adaptation of ‘first up best dressed’ which is Northern English and originally came from large families that shared clothes, so was literal, but later became a more generalised saying for the virtues of getting in early on everything from a sale to seating in a restaurant.
I have definitely heard it used more in Aus than in England, and by younger people, too, but the fact G A Wilkes didn’t mention it in his Dictionary of Australian Colloquialisms leads me to believe it’s never been considered a specifically Australian saying, though it may well have held on here while falling out of use elsewhere.
Anyone from Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, York, etc. who can weigh in?
White leftist suddenly against cultural preservation after learning it also includes that culture's religion, many such cases
White leftist very aware of the consequences of colonialism suddenly unable to recognize colonial influence the moment it starts to affect spiritual beliefs
Anti-religion is also in like 60% of cases fundamentally just sanist arguments that hurt me more as a psychotic person than they hurt any religious hegemony, they just don't realize they're causing harm because they think they're targeting people with the right labels.
good: the Church/religious body as an institution is a cudgel of absolute power that historically has been wielded to hammer down those who don't conform. these structures have caused real harm to people
neutral: i have religious trauma that has given me a negative relationship with religion.
bad: what kind of CRAZY backwards fuck would let some INVISIBLE THING tell them what to do lol are they fucking stupid, can't they see they can't see anything? i'm happy i'm sooo much more advanced than they are lmao what kind of idiot believes in things they can't see? i have to tell them their reality is fake! i have to!
"what if a dangerous man pretends to be trans to-" what if we actually dealt with the underlying causes of dangerous men. what if predators faced real consequences more often. what if you stopped using trans women as a proxy for your grievances with liberal feminism's individualist denial of the need to fight systemic issues.
what if you stopped assigning blame for patriarchy's evils to one of its more vulnerable victim groups.
Every TERF response to this is just "well what if I victim blame anyway though"
Fascists LARPing as a misogynist's caricature of a feminist.
a scene can start wherever you want it to
writing isn't real life. You don't need to set up a character walking into a room or two characters greeting each other and talking about the weather or what-have-you in order to lead into the conversation you actually want them to have. just start at the conversation.
hell, start in the middle of the conversation. you could even start at the end and then have one of them leave and the other one left behind to reflect back on what just happened.
writing gets easier when you open yourself up to writing the parts that are interesting, to starting where it's easy instead of where you think you should start.
if it ends up not working? that's okay. you tried it, and sometimes just getting something out of your head is a necessary first step to getting the words right
