KGTAC ACT 2 (Page 2079) COMPARED TO HOME-SKILLET PAGE 1

KGTAC Act 2 is seemingly (probably) a reboot of Home-Skillet. I wonder how the connection to KGTAC will be revealed in time but eh. Not the point of this post. Im just here to compare the first panel. (Also, as far as i know, I’ve read all of Home-Skillet, unless Cole suddenly decided to update Home-skillet after leaving it for a year (Since I’m pulling from a 2021 MSPFA archive and it was last updated in 2020))

KGTAC ACT 2 (Page 2079):

Home-Skillet Page 1:

Alright, So the sprite for Fred Wilmore is slightly different, makes sense since this is a remake. But here’s to noting the More notable differences. 1. Desk is VERY different, I can’t even tell if there’s anything on there, If i had to guess, its probably to be more consistent with how did this, Where everything was a bit big for John. I think its a bit oversized even compared to that. Which leads me wondering if a computer is even there, Since why else would it be off the panel.

2. There are no gremlin cards on the floor. I guess either they’ve been moved, or they’ve been sent to the shadow realm

3. The posters are entirely different. I have zero clue on what the left one is about, Especially since its too cut off for me to find anything on a reverse image search. But the one on the right is like a gotmilk poster, i found that out by looking at the link on the Web archive

4. A pool suddenly exists, This was not in Home-Skillet, i get the feeling this might be of some importance, or at least a gag of sorts.

There are other differences but other than that, these are the ones that came off as notable to me. I still wonder how KGTAC and Home-Skillet will fit together since from what i read of Home-Skillet, its somewhat derivative of Homestuck, and more importantly, they play SBURB (Floppy disk edition) Maybe I’ll make a post theorizing more about what all this could mean for KGTAC, I should also consider finally joining the Discord for KGTAC to see if theres any theories there as I’ve intentionally not joined just in case there were spoilers on what happens next. Overall positive, Because it means we can get actual numbers on people who read Home-Skillet, It means KGTAC doesn't disappear from the mspfa homepage every single time H-S goes on hiatus (Which always made me sad as KGTAC is one of my favorite fanventures), and if it helps Cole feel less stressed about writing H-S, then it's fine. Though it is nice to get conformation that these two adventures are directly connected storywise with the line "While these acts are directly connected to each other" The only bad part is that i have to find the page i was on again, which'll take a bit. (Especially since i haven't been reading it for a while since i don't have the time to do analyses, and i want to continue analyzing H-S it's just that I've been fairly busy with college and I've been working on my part for the EOA1 Animation for Chained, and I'd rather focus on that for now.)

2236: In the Beta it was "Ana: Play a jazzy saxophone refrain." The music here is actually the same as before, it's generally the same as before at the start, just a different environment. The nanny seemingly walked into another house? Then we start seeing a bigger difference. A Showtime remix starts playing as we see FRED TRY EATING HIS GREENS LMAO. This is what we in the business call A REALLY COOL ANIMATION. i kinda wish it was actually playable but that would've been a lot more work. THEN FRED STARTS DANCING. Goddamn we can just make a full Fred Wilmore sprite sheet now, can we. That was an amazing animation. well worth the wait! Now on the theory crafting side of things. The only thing that come to mind is that Fred was expecting EDMOND to be there to eat his greens. Despite as it says in Page 2118 of the holy text "Unfortunately he ran away when you were young. He was a very good dog, though" Though to be fair, we don't know what Fred considers "young". Fred might be one of those kids who considers himself from 2 years ago "young". Another weird thing is that the STRIFE text is in the opposite direction when compared to homestuck... No look! HOMESTUCK STRIFE

2237: I wonder what HIP stands for? This clearly will be incredibly important in ACT 2 DAY 5 ROLL 2 INTERMISSION 3 2244: What's with the red eye? I guess it's just to represent that he's utterly manic right now. 2245: Beautiful animation! This also gives us a better look into the living room here which is nice for anyone looking to make a recreation. (I was actually trying to make one a while back...) 2246: We see a big package (probably his computer) there. It has a watery logo. Kinda looks like a surfboard on a wave? 2247: There's Photochat! 2248: Oh that's a different box, also it's published/made by SKYACOM. Interesting... 2252: Ok so we know that logo belongs to a company called GREENROOM now (Like, is this a reference to Doc Scratch? His room was green, i guess it could also be the felt manor back in Homestuck's Act 3 Intermission. Could also be nothing.), also we now see the desktop! Interesting it says INDEX for the home button, we also now have the EXACT TIME which is 5:30 PM, this will be useful for setting up a timeline! (Not that I'd really bother doing that right now.)

2253: Wait what the hell! Random Act 1 Cursor Appearance? This sorta popped up in Act 1 of Homestuck due to the fact that Homestuck was originally designed to be made entirely in flash. It's interesting that it's showing up here. Maybe it means something, maybe Cole didn't want to animate Fred grabbing Photochat then putting it into the pc. 2255: Hm he's been to a library, maybe there is some credence to him being of the mind aspect (/j) 2264: Ah! I can't believe Cole was so bold to do it so early to kill off such a major character so early, to the forgetful ones in the audience back in my analysis of the FLOPPY DECK (my beloved) i talked about the fact there are only 3 points on the floppy deck, when the BETA Floppy deck had 4 points. I made a crackpot theory that one of the character's would die in Home-Skillet as a big event early on in the story. And well, here we have it folks! Fred is dead, dead dead, deadity dead dead, dead. What a bold move. his death moved me to tears. KGTAC RELEASE

2265: Sweet! Just putting this to note but the pages for this day's of updates (2/3/24) weren't released all at once, we had to wait like an hour when Photochat was downloading. The images were actually uploaded before this and i probably saw them before most because i decided to check because i noticed some pages were being released 1 at a time. Just putting this for historical reasons for anyone reading this in the far future in the [S] END OF ACT 2 flash when Nan unites everyone for the big fight against LORD HUSSIE (/j, man I'm including a lot of jokes in this one) because this small detail would probably be forgotten a few years from now. SIDENOTE 1: I just noticed… For some reason there's barely any "NAME: DO STUFF" in the ENTIRETY of Home-Skillet. Its mainly just DO STUFF, like seriously. it's not set up like a standard Homestuck command at all. Even KGTAC ACT 1 + INTERMISSION did that when a character was doing stuff. It wouldn't even be forced. Like in pg 2236 it could've been "[S] Ana: Play the sax in triumph." but it's just not? Like before the HIATUS, there was like 1 use, now its like half-n-half and I'm not sure if this is intentional or accidental. Even worse, we started seeing a lot of the standard Homestuck command structure starting February, not before... so even after the Hiatus the command structure didn't include names. Is it because Ana and Fred are talking to each other to prevent confusion or is there some deeper reason... PRE HIATUS

FEBRUARY FOR SOME REASON

2295: Death theory… (Specifically, DC can't enter into his session as his FLOPPY DECK, seemingly died in a valiant battle against time. This is incredibly bad for when you're playing the game that kills you when you don't play it. Now of course this is assuming that HomeSkillet is operating under the idea that the meteors are like destined to hit you and not that the games summon the meteors (I personally don't understand why people think that, was that ever confirmed or is that just popular fanon) But overall, this likely doesn't bode well for DC) 2303: ARG WARNING, DEAR GOD I HAVE TO SOLVE A MYSTERY NOW THESE ARE IMAGES… or not It looks like BrainFuck so uh… Yeah i don't think it means anything big (aka i don't know how i'd even transcribe the text into a working program! Also thinking about it, this might be the item duplication thing i joked about earlier, y'know with the fact that if items are just code on a floppy disc, whats preventing people from copying that floppy. 2425: Fun fact, i saw this image like 20 seconds before the page went up, because ever since the loading screen, i've been checking for that sort of stuff. It looks like we are about to hit an [S] Page. SIDENOTE 3: The Saxophone was always there lmao, i can't believe i missed it, it was even referenced in the text of 2186. I guess you miss stuff when you end up analyzing nearly 100 pages worth of content while trying to balance 6 college classes at the same time.

SIDENOTE 4: These have all been pretty good panels so far, I love all the work that's been put into them, with all these details, especially early on when Cole went and animated the runs there.

This idea has been in my head for a while now, so i finally decided to draw it, I've never done anything like this before, and i kinda put it together in like 2-3 hours for fun. (Yes i did just kinda give up on the shoes, couldn't be bothered.)

Well i feel like i need to explain my idea behind this, Well i thought of making this since Fred has a copy of the Super Mario Movie Video Game so i thought he could use that in alchemy. I did think a bit on practicality here with using the tool belt Mario has as Floppy Disk Storage so he doesn't have to carry things around so much. This does seem like something Fred COULD make, since y'know, he likes Nintendo. So i thought of making this. Overall i think i did a decent job for a first attempt at this sort of thing.

Welcome to the world's most delayed analysis post ever! Sorry about how long it took, i got busy for a while there. It won't clear up for a bit (Future note: It has somewhat, that's the reason why this came out THIS LATE) but I'll talk about that at the end of this analysis. Also, I'll begin to refer to the original Home-Skillet as Home-Skillet BETA because KGTAC Act 2 has had it's title drop. Like it was so late that my previous draft before uploading went up to 2070, my reason for not updating is College. (Future Note: Another thing is that some of these notes here are from when the pages originally updated, I'll include notes on if i got something wrong in those old ones.)

Y'know like put an item on the FLOPPY DECK to put it in a floppy disk, put the floppy disk in the computer, copy it onto the computer, and copy that stuff onto another floppy. Honestly there's a lot to the original one, sadly there isn't much else to talk about here as its all fairly different but in ways that's more valuable as an interesting comparison between the two versions of Home-Skillet and not for theorizing about what happens next. I guess since i don't think i ever mentioned it. but Home-Skillet Beta Fred has a non-Sylladex inventory system until the author decided to just give Fred a Sylladex. This is very much unlike KGTAC Fred who just... grabs things... some mind bending stuff here i know. Maybe I'll talk about it in the future when there's more to KGTAC H-S, Like when it gets fully past the H-S Beta in terms of content.

I'm using the Game Dev Tycoon one since it gets the point across, and because i thought they looked kinda similar. But yeah... There isn't that much to talk about here beyond this.

GENERAL ANA COMPARISON: I used two panels to compare Ana's sprites from H-S Beta to KGTAC H-S It's so similar i thought they were the same, I had to overlay the two to notice the head is slightly different. (I used XOR on the KGTAC one and overlayed it on the H-S Beta one) The white pixels on Ana are the differences... I wonder why its so similar when Fred got a more notable coat of paint. y'know like slightly different pockets, belt is a few pixels different, etc. where you can tell it was redone a bit, meanwhile it looks like Ana at best got a slightly different head, with everything else being lifted from the original. I'm not judging, I'm just curious as to why its only the head that's different.

But for actual notes, Its interesting "The Theories Of The Strange" is the same book from H-S Beta, The difference in color is probably more so because of a filter being applied to darken things. on Commander and Sharks, the narration is notably different, The yellow alien used to be called Viola but is now Jacello. The green one used to be called Shark but is now Leonardo Travesty They also weren't Chefs, instead they went around the universe eating new "lifeforms" The closest things to being chefs was making food. In the KGTAC H-S Panel, the yellow text says "From the Edge(s?) of the Universe, the finest silicone based chefs share their secrets" (Wait A MINUTE, I JUST REALIZED "Commanders and Sharks" is a reference to "Commander Cello" and "Sharkalien") 2193: Wow, this is different 2194: Yeah, totally different. Apologies for how late this analysis was, It wasn't THAT difficult to make this, its just that i didn't have much time due to starting college and being a bit overloaded with classes. Which meant what free time i had i used to game and read instead of hobbies like the analysis. (Like yeah... I had up to Fred's house part of the analysis done like 6 weeks before posting this... I just got the free time to finish this up recently and also that apology for how late it was was written around that same time.... So Yeah!)

What next for the analysis posts: I still want to make these, This post took many hours to make, Probably over 12 hours total (i should probably start keeping track of the time here) Like my final edit here was about 6 hours which was adding new things i noticed, all the flashes, the ending, clearing up anything vague, and fixing minor grammatical errors. I'm just imagining how long this would've taken if the author didn't take a break. I'll still keep making these, but yeah, These posts are definitely going to be rarer as i don't have a summer break's worth of time and due to the way these analysis posts work. (I talk about every page with anything to note, doing multiple re-reads of relevant sections, and generally looking around both fanventures.)

Whats next for my blog: It'll go back to normal with my reblogs, i sorta didn't want to reblog anything until this update came out so i can explain everything here. Hopefully no one here minds that since i have interests outside of KGTAC and Homestuck. (and even then, i didn't reblog Homestuck stuff, since i wanted to explain things first in an update)

Well I hope you all enjoyed the end of this analysis, I did my best to try and keep this as polished as usual. For some final thoughts, THE BOX is probably going to show up later as a Chekhov's gun sort of thing. another thing, WHATS IN THE PACKAGE!?!?! No, seriously, I've got no clue what it could be, it could be a sylladex, but that's sorta a big box, maybe a SYLLADEX STARTER SET (alliteration my beloved) would make sense in the box, we might get more hints later. Outside of theorizing, i do kinda miss the flash files. With flash files, i can grab assets out of them, which can be useful for seeing things you otherwise wouldn't, higher quality assets, and for asset ripping. You can't really do that with a video. Yet another thing to note is that the Act-Act structure for ACT 2 of KGTAC might be rolls, as that's how it was in Home-Skillet Beta (And yes, KGTAC does have ACT ACTS, in Act 1 it was END OF DAY X). Well anyways, if anyone has any questions, theories, or noticed i missed something, I'd like to hear em.

Yes, I'll still be doing more analysis posts. But I'm probably going to cut back on the content or quality (probably the first one) of them after the next one I'll post soon™. There are a few reasons why, 1. These posts take a while to make with decent quality. (Drawing, explaining in detail, Suddenly an idea takes hold and what was once a sentence of analysis for a page ends up being a paragraph, reading my post 4 times to check for grammar mistakes and to make sure my explanation's make sense, etc.) 2. My motivation to keep making these is somewhat waning, This is in part that the original excitement of something new has left, and there isn't that much to analyze on a page by page basis early on, We don't exactly have insane amounts of content to go off of for theorizing, like KGTAC ACT 2 is about to reach 100 pages. The big reason i was able to make a lot of theories and ideas for these analysis posts was due to KGTAC Act 2 being a complete remake of Home-Skillet so i have a point of comparison, but its deviated enough now that there isn't that much to go off of, especially since Home-Skillet was dropped in its equivalent of Homestuck Act 1. 3. I'm just somewhat busy at the moment, These posts take some time to make and i haven't been spending a ton of time on them. (Like I'm coming back after finishing this post and this post took like, 45 minutes to write, fix grammatical mistakes, and to add in more bits to flesh it out a bit more in places, hopefully there aren't any noticeable grammar mistakes here.) This is the end of the Analysis, In conclusion it was really cool to get so many updates at once. I was kinda worried that I'd miss an update while i was writing this. But other than that it was kinda neat. I guess this also marks the first time i updated when i didn't have much to talk about. purely because if something important does come up, it'd suck to have to have like 15 pages with small things to note before hitting the meat and bones of an analysis. There's also the fact i don't want an analysis to be a long read just because i was waiting to update when something big happens like whether that be a cool theory, a big confirmation, or just a lot of evidence that leaves me theorizing.

Alright, Well lets get to the point here, I wouldn't be making this analysis if it weren't for page 2099 as it has some genuine meat on its bones there. But there's still a bit to talk about.

This page where his most reasonable solution was to eat the Fritos and close the container with his right hand. It's neat characterization especially with the fact he didn't think of trying to clean it, not even the classic lick your fingers and wipe the saliva on your pants trick. It really comes off as he doesn't try to keep himself nice and neat.

Now we've got some actual analysis here. To assist i will list each thing with its own unique image.

The room has been completely redesigned to look more "roomy" i guess. We now have TWO (2) windows showing the outside. Although oddly enough no door?

In this image, we get a nice closeup, sadly it doesn't show anything big, though at least we know there is nothing of importance in the Display cases. Just some plates. SKETCH OF WHAT THE PORCH MIGHT LOOK LIKE

We also can't see much outside, it looks like the front yard oddly enough, Maybe we're looking at a porch. This would explain why the glass goes down to the floor, although i don't see any handles. It could just be windows but that makes literally no sense but meh, I don't have the house layout, and we haven't seen enough to be able to construct one, the only thing supporting the idea that its just a window is the fact Fred's room has a really big window (with no curtains, Jesus, someone could just peek in).

We see a portrait of a man interestingly enough, maybe a Grandpa? Though we'd need a closer look. This is the best reconstruction i could make, It took multiple guesses, The one on the right is traced on a 10x resolution version of the photo, We'd need a slightly closer view if we want to see who this guy is. He kinda looks like a moai head.

Under the TV appears to be something computer like, maybe a DVD player? it would explain whats on the other side of this cubby as cases of DVDs, although this is a bit early for someone who is implied to be behind the times tech wise (DVDs just started being massed produced in 1996, and 2 years after this story starts 1/4 American households had a DVD according to Wikipedia).

We can also see from our perspective a literal Easter egg. One that's actually decently hidden unlike in the original H-S.

Under the Fax Machine (Right side, under the portrait of a disgusting pig-like being.) is a Yellow Book of notable size.

On the table with the Fax Machine are some orange notes. Maybe DubiousCrustacean from the original H-S? since his color was orange. It's possible they're pestering him via Fax since he doesn't have a computer. (Wow that so stupid, I love it) There is also another paper but we can't figure anything about it at the current moment.

Behind the farthest right Couch Cushion is another Easter egg of the literal variety.

On the couch there's a literal black thing… I can't tell what it is at all. It a black thing with a dot in it. Maybe a remote in the couch cushions. There's also a bowl of something with napkins next to it (or papers). I guess it might be a candy bowl?

In the left side there are TWO (2) EXITS. you can barely see one of them, just like the edge of it. I point it out in the image with a black arrow. I just barely noticed it myself.

And finally, WHATS IN DE BOXX!!!?!?!?

Conclusion: Well this is the end of this update's analysis. We got some good mileage with that last page. So much to talk about and think of. Like whats with that old man? is Fred getting pestered by his friends over fax. Who knows, if anyone else has any ideas. I'd like to hear em. also i had to keep resisting the temptation to mark everything of importance in CAPITAL LETTERS. like this is Homestuck ACT 1.
