like the return of the r slur and horrible fatphobia and gay jokes and the misogyny oh my fucking god can we talk about the misogyny. we have culturally regressed to the eary 2010s but when you try to call people out they’re liek ohhh it’s just a joke 😂. i’m sorry but i don’t want to hear jokes about pedophilia or about rape or about racism that is not funny and it never will be. everything is ironic and if you get offended it’s cuz you’re a crazy femnazi who cares too much. because it’s apparently uncool to take anything serious or do anything with actual sincerity anymore
been watching livestreams of US news channels lately and
1) they have a LOT of commercial breaks
2) i didn’t realize that ads for medicine were actually like this
ppl keep reblogging this and asking “well what are the medicine ads like in your country” and like…there aren’t any? It’s literally illegal to advertise prescription medicine here?

Wilmer Gutiérrez still doesn’t understand how his son ended up in the most notorious prison in the world. While scrolling through photos on his phone, he revisits snapshots of him and his son in the Colombian jungle, crossing the border, working together. There are other moments where they’re both surrounded by family back home in Venezuela. Now, inside the six-bedroom apartment in the Bronx that he shares with 12 other people, Wilmer looks at the photos with nostalgia and sorrow.
On March 15, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained his 19-year-old son, Merwil Gutiérrez, and another 237 Venezuelans. He had no criminal record, neither in Venezuela nor the U.S., nor did he have any tattoos — one of the features that the U.S. police used to link them to the Tren de Aragua gang. But none of that stopped him from being arrested.
“I feel like my son was kidnapped,” said Gutiérrez in Spanish. “I’ve spent countless hours searching for him, going from one precinct to another, speaking with numerous people who kept referring me elsewhere. Yet, after all this, no one has given me any information or provided a single document about his case.”
[…]
Wilmer only found out his son had been detained after receiving a phone call on March 15 from his nephew, Luis, who lives with them. That morning was their last time together; they had gone around the corner to do their laundry. Later that day, Wilmer said that his son met with a friend to get help with some errands at the American Red Cross. He learned this from Luis, who looked at the situation from inside the apartment: When his son was on his way back, just steps from his home when ICE agents stopped him. “The officers grabbed him and two other boys right at the entrance to our building. One said, ‘No, he’s not the one,’ like they were looking for someone else. But the other said, ‘Take him anyway.'”
That moment marked the beginning of Wilmer’s search for answers — answers he’s still waiting for.

Even before his friend and fellow Columbia activist Mahmoud Khalil was arrested by immigration authorities, Mahdawi asked university administrators to help him find a safe place to live so he would not be taken by ICE agents, according to emails reviewed by The Intercept. The school did nothing in response, Mahdawi said.
After ICE abducted Khalil last month, Mahdawi sheltered in place for more than three weeks for fear of being picked up himself.
Instead of taking him off the street, however, immigration authorities scheduled the citizenship test at the Colchester USCIS office and took Mahdawi into custody when he arrived.
Now, Mahdawi is facing an order to deport him to the occupied West Bank, where escalating attacks from both the Israeli military and Jewish settlers have led to increased casualties among Palestinians.
“It’s kind of a death sentence,” Mahdawi said. “Because my people are being killed unjustly in an indiscriminate way.”
…
Earlier this month, Mahdawi received an email from USCIS notifying him that he was scheduled to conduct an interview to obtain his U.S. citizenship. He said he was expecting the interview to take place in December or January, in line with the expected timeline to move from his green card status through the naturalization process. When he received the email, however, he was worried it might be a trap.
In anticipation of the worst, Mahdawi contacted his representatives in Congress, including Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Peter Welch, D-Vt., as well as Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., to make them aware of his situation and ask them to intervene if possible.
Mahdawi said he spoke personally with Welch, who said his office would be on standby pending what happened with Mahdawi’s case. Offices for Sanders and Balint said they would remain on standby pending news of Mahdawi’s status after the interview. (Welch, Sanders, and Balint did not immediately respond to requests for comment.)
btw
the court has issued a restraining order barring his removal from vermont but like. what does that do really. none of this shit does anything anymore when they're out here openly defying a 9-0 scotus ruling against them and blatantly lying on live tv that it was 9-0 in their favor
the culture is fascist the politics are fascist and there is no soviet union to keep the american fourth reich in check
never forgot how hard the democrats worked to facilitate this turn.

Hey guys let me tell you about advance fee scams
I hope y'all are familiar with these in this day and age, especially my artists out there, because they're incredibly common.
About half an hour ago I posted a drawing and tagged it #artists on tumblr, and very quickly received this comment.
My scam radar went off immediately, due to the generic blog name and lack of any emotion in the comment, but I decided it might be an entertaining venture so I dmed them. They asked for a drawing "of these", and sent me a random selfie. I got the details and told them it would be $15, and they promptly offered me $300. At this point I know it's a scam, but I play along for funsies and give them my paypal. Shortly, they send me this image for "confirmation" (I blocked out my email)
And they began to insist that I checked my email. I looked in my spam folder and found the following email.
This is fake. This is not a thing. And the "you're to refund the $200.00 back" is the scam. They send vaguely official-looking emails at you to "prove" that they sent you the money, then have you send them $200 (or however much the scam is for). Then, surprise surprise, you're out $200.
I continued to play along for a bit, and in the second email "Paypal" told me that I had to refund the $200 before they could "credit the $300 to my account", along with these lovely threats.
And yeah, it's silly. But it's not silly if you don't know and get scammed. So. Spread, please! And thank you very much to @mlaurel for the opportunity to get these screenshots.
This is a variation on a much older scam that often results in the victim being out money and also out whatever they were selling. It goes something like this:
- victim posts an item for sale on craigslist or w/e
- scammer contacts asking if a check is ok
- scammer then asks if they can write a check for more than the agreed-upon price and for the seller to give them the overage back as cash, often with some excuse about it being an out-of-state bank, they don't have a card and need some cash for something else, or whatever.
- scammer gives check, gets cash and item, and bounces
- guess what the check does, too
ANY kind of structure where you supposedly get money but have to give some of it back to someone should twig your scam radar, frankly.
Reblogging because some people need to refresh their scam radar, or start building theirs. I see far too many people fall for traps, and don't dare say for a second "this will never happen to me" because all it takes is a momentary lapse in judgement.

I'm sending this message from Gaza — not to ask for sympathy, but for support. ❤️🩹‼️
We are living under constant bombing.
The sound of explosions is our daily background.
There is no safe place, no peace, no rest.
At the same time, we are starving.
There is no food, no clean water, no medicine.
Hunger is everywhere — and so is fear.
Every day, we wonder if we’ll survive.
Every night, we pray for one more morning.
Even a small donation from you can make a huge difference, It can mean food, warmth, or simply hope for someone who feels forgotten.
If you can help — please do.
Your kindness can save lives. 🤍🫰🏻

please listen..
This is Gaza. 🍉‼️
We are not just under attack — we are trapped in fear, hunger, and desperation.
We live every day not knowing if we’ll survive the next.
We don’t hear silence anymore — only the sounds of drones, bombs, and crying hearts.
There’s barely any food.
Families go days eating nothing but scraps.
Prices are impossible. A piece of bread costs more than what some families earn in a week.
People are getting weaker.
Not from wounds… but from hunger.
We’ve lost homes, safety, and the ability to dream.
We don’t ask for luxuries.
We ask for life — just enough to stay alive.
Your donation could mean a meal.
A blanket..
A moment of safety..
A breath of hope.
Please, don’t look away.
Be part of the mercy we’ve been praying for.
Donate. Share. Help us survive.
