Hey y’all I hope you’re all doing well.
This is not a rant but a message I want to put out just in case I can’t be on tumblr or any social media for a long time…or ever again.
Quick update on my studies: Things hasn’t been going as planned since my responsibilities and “preparation plans” seem to be taking priority. Not to mention night time being the only time of day that I can study at home which has been screwing up my circadian rhythm, resulting in lost time that could have been used for studying.
Besides that what I really want to say is that I got some news. I’m not sure if it’s good or bad. We caught word that ICE will be “reviewing” my dad’s place of employment this week. He works for our [now] neighboring city and has for over 30 years. A federal job.
This could mean that they are just reviewing employee files to confirm that the city hasn’t employed illegal immigrants. But my parents and I are worried about the worse that could happen.
My parents arrived in the United States from Trinidad in the 1980’s (1989 -ish) and did so legally. I don’t know the current process for obtaining citizenship but I know that the process during that time required them both to live in the U.S. for at least 5 years before obtaining citizenship, that of which they officially obtained in the 1990’s. They did everything correctly, what they were instructed to do. My brother and I were both born here in the 1990’s which means we are citizens.
Considering that, I hope we are safe for now, but it seems my pre-election suspicion that “doing it the right way” doesn’t matter, as I recently heard that the current administration plans to revoke the legal status of approximately 530,000 people, mainly Haitian, Cuban, and Venezuelan refugees.
I don’t know what to expect and things are escalating fast. Just wanted to let y’all know what’s going on here and that I’ll try to post an update at the end of the week. I’m freaking out a little because I’m graduating from pharmacy school in May, and I matched with a pharmacy residency program down in Fort Lauderdale. I had an APPE rotation at the site of the program, so I’m really excited to work there as a resident pharmacist alongside people who mentored me during my rotation. I’m just scared that one of these days I would wake up to my rights being completely gone.
Wish me luck. I will post updates when I can.
