Half-unpacked boxes were still scattered everywhere around your new apartment. Your bedroom wasn’t fully equipped with furniture yet either, you only had your bed and your desk and chair for studies while the rest of the apartment was slowly coming together.
Every day after you come back from your classes you would usually go straight back home and fixate on your studies, diving head first into your work. You enjoyed it, although it was hard at times and really took every particle in your body to not just throw everything out the window, you still continued and tried savoring every good moment to make up for all the stress and frustration.
After another tiring day, you walk up the stairs to your apartment, just wanting to relax a bit and rest. That was the only thing on your mind. “Hello there new neighbor,” you hear a male voice from the opposite side greet you as you search your pockets for your keys, just to find nothing so you turn around. “Oh— hey, it’s nice to uhm— meet you…” He could clearly tell how tired you looked and felt just by taking a glance at you. A chuckle escaped his lips as he takes a few steps closer to you, his hands in his pockets. “Uni?”
He was pretty tall compared to you, not too much but definitely visible although his looks were definitely what caught you more off guard… He looked beautiful, ethereal even and he was your neighbor. That’s definitely something you could brag about. Living next to somebody as handsome as him? Yeah, that definitely would come up in conversations with your friends. “Is it that obvious? That I’m tired?” You couldn’t help but chuckle softly, feeling your cheeks heat up out of embarrassment. He responded by pulling his hands out of his pockets, revealing your keys.
“You left them hanging this morning.” As he reveals your keys, your eyes widen and you gently take them from him, nodding your head softly to show him that you’re thankful that he took them until you’d come back. “Oh God— Thank you…” All he did was shake his hand and brush it off as if it was nothing before walking back to his apartment door. “I’m Heeseung… Rest well.” He gave you one last soft smile before heading into his apartment and closing the door behind him, leaving you standing there a little baffled and flustered before you also head inside again.
That slightly awkward encounter with your new neighbor sparked interested in the both of you and it also created a new friendship as well, leading to you not just staying home everyday after your studies but actually going out from time to time. He was the person that kept you grounded, the one that made you realize that there was still a world outside of studying and learning and for that, you were truly grateful…
Occasional going out and talking with Heeseung gave you an insight of what kind of person he was. He was quiet, at first, but slowly, through patience, because all you needed was patience with him, he spoke more with you. He opened up to you.
Heeseung was a thinker, maybe even an overthinker, which lead him to taking a while longer to answer to things or to respond but you didn’t have a problem with that at all. It actually helped you take your time as well, not always just babbling out everything and not giving him a chance to speak. He helped you to listen closely and you helped him by understanding him and being patient…
It was truly a great match. A match made, not in heaven or anything, but instead, by yourselves…
