This blog is a smattering of anything that takes my fancy (Good Omens currently takes all my fancy) |fandom nanna . she/her🌈🩷💛🩵| @Paperclip_Ninja on reddit/twitter

Rambly meta post

Because my brain is now permanently Good Omens shaped and my need to ramble about my thoughts and feelings will continue, I've decided to put the ramblings in one place (this post is the place) to make sure I a) don't start repeating myself and b) can find past rambles more easily when I'm grabbing ideas for fics etc.

So herein lie the rambly metas about:

The final fifteen™️

Duality and layers in Good Omens

1941 (and music)

Aziraphale things

Crowley things

Symbolism

After the Good Omens finale airs:

I am hoping that they give us an ending with potential for many more fanfics, fanart and creative endeavours, so that the fandom may live on for many years yet. This fandom is like home to me. I’m not ready to lose it.

Fandom granny here, with a little primer on the lifecycle of a fandom.

After the finale:

  1. There will be two simultaneous explosions - one of fic, one of flouncing, the same two things that greeted the first two seasons. (Remember the whole “It wasn’t gay ENOUGH in the ways I wanted their relationship to be depicted!” tempest after S1?) There’s probably also going to be A. Lot. of meta speculation on what was planned in the original 6 scripts v how the Pratchett estate handled it. Expect many references to Discworld.
  2. The overall fandom will continue hot and strong for at least 5 years, at this level of feverish participation. It may even pick up a few people who weren’t going to join mid-story.
  3. Around years 6-7, things will cool off as fans start to migrate to a new show that scratches the same itch. (I’m sure you’ve already noticed the huge overlap between Good Omens and Our Flag Means Death fandom.) Conventions will quietly end their runs.
  4. Around year 8 the fandom will have contracted to whatever it’s going to be and - take heart in this - that is where it will stay. For decades.

I’m going through the final contractions of BBC Sherlock fandom right now, and still mourning that I won’t be able to attend the final 221B Con and give the fandom a last farewell. But the fandom is still going. AO3 shows 18 fics have been posted/updated in the last 3 days. (Yes, once it was 18 an hour, but still. Fic is being actively written.)

And HOW LONG has Star Trek, The Original Series been chugging?

Fandoms do not die, my dears. They get smaller, but they Do. Not. Die. In 10 years, 20 years, there will still be fic, new fic. As long as the phrase “GNU Terry Pratchett” holds meaning, the lights in a bookshop that doesn’t sell books will never go out, and the door will always be open for anyone who wants to be inside.

Some fantastic insights, and you made me cry 😭😭😭 thank you Fandom Granny!! 🥹🙏

- Fandom Mom ❤️

I often call myself a fandom Nanna but considering we have Granny and Mum taken care of, perhaps I can self appoint as a fandom Aunty (yes the oddball one but I'll spoil you rotten) for the sake of adding:

Yes to all these wonderful points and also, as long as these stories live on, new people will discover them and be as excited as we were when Good Omens first hooked us and they will seek out all the fics and the art and the blogs.

There will be little resurgences every time something happens to inject new interest in the series.

One of the loveliest things about fandom is that yes, it will eventually contract to a new "normal", however any time something happens- it might be the anniversary of the finale or the release of new bts footage or an interview or anything-even those whose focus is now primarily elsewhere will jump back in and it's honestly like a joyous reunion.

I have fandom friends on here from multiple fandoms and I adore seeing how passionate they are about shows and ships and ppl I don't know anything about but as soon as anything relating to our old fandom pops up, it's like a party on my dash.

And the other thing is, this fandom has taken Good Omens and these characters and through the incredible fanworks and metas, made them into something so much bigger than the source material. I truly believe that because of this, their stories and the choice to continue to engage in new and exciting versions through all the works that will continue to be produced, will mean we are never left wanting for content.

Fandom spans so much more than the show or the original source material, as I think we've seen. So while it may look and feel different after a while, it's not going anywhere 💛

All The Little Moments - A Regency AU Chapters 4&5 (fic now complete)

Yes, it was meant to be 4 chapters and now it's 5 BUT, they are both here! And the fic is now complete :)

Summary: It was the talk of the ton. Notorious scoundrel and most eligible bachelor, Anthony Crowley, had returned from abroad to assume his rightful place as head of the Crowley household following the sudden and unfortunate death of his father, Right Honourable Luke Crowley, Earl of Whickex. It was a Thursday morning over breakfast that Aziraphale, second born son of the esteemed Fell family, heard the news from his older brother, Gabriel.

Excerpt:

Christmas came and went, and as December rolled towards January, London only grew bleaker under the weight of a decidedly dreary winter. Despite a muttered apology from the Earl the next morning at the Duke’s—a frazzled, “ terribly sorry about last night, I can explain…, ” before they were interrupted—Aziraphale found himself wrapped in a glumness that showed no sign of relenting.

Eternal thanks to @harlotofupdog and @zin-lynn-c for beta and Regency checks 💛

Congrats on finishing this fic, Clip! I wouldn't have expected to be the type to fan themselves and feel the need to faint like a Victorian lady, but here I was, doing exactly that with every new chapter. Amazing work ♥️

Aww Fris, your cheerleading has been such a huge motivator and I appreciate it so much. So thank you for your support. I shall send you an appropriately sized fan to flap at yourself as you recline on your settee 🪭💛

Chapters 1 & 2 (out of 7) of my latest Good Omens fic are posted!

Summary:

Crowley reluctantly agreed to help his colleague Anathema supervise a car wash to raise money to take their students to Pride. He wasn’t happy about it… until a gorgeous angel stepped out of a ridiculous antique Mini. Flustered, he asked the beautiful man to recommend a mechanic for his vintage Bentley, even though he already had a great mechanic, who also happened to be his best friend.

Are you reading this yet? You should be! It’s so good and fun! A perfect treat.
