meanwhile the Lib Dems (a party further to the left) appear to be much better, they even have a whole website specifically about their stance on LGBTQIA+ rights (even specifically mentioning that they support the right to self-ID, the legal recongnition of nonbinary identities, removal of the spousal veto, and a ban on conversion therapy)

I already know that the British public has the memory of a fuckin goldfish so come next election we'll be back to the tories or worse reform and that'll somehow be worse than what we currently have

best case scenario in my opinion is that we get a Lib Dem victory next election (if they maintain their upward momentum from last election) and we pray that Ed Davey actually delivers on his promises

i would genuinely love for that to happen but unfortunately im quite pessimistic :(

luckily im somewhat of an optimistic person :3

they did really well last election (the most MPs they have ever had, and along with membership around 90k, they are bigger now than in 2010, when they formed the ill-fated coalition with the Tories) and if they can keep that momentum next election, they could have a reasonable shot at winning

and i don't think reform would win (at least not next election, going from 4 seats to a majority in a single election is preposterous, they currently make up less than 1% of parliament, even the green party has more people in government right now)

duckduckgo now has ai, and while it can be turned off I'd rather use a search engine that doesn't have any of it, period.

okay people are doing nuance in the notes about the kernels of truth in neuroscience myths but I really really need you to understand that that is not important here. people don't believe there are "right-brained" and "left-brained" people because they've misunderstood lateralisation of the central nervous system, they believe it because that binary framework was deliberately pushed by people who wanted to define who was logical enough to lead, and surprise surprise, white adult heterosexual men are left-brained. people don't believe the brain "finishes developing at 25" because they've misunderstood life stage differences in neuroplasticity, they believe it because the idea that children, teens, and young adults have inferior brains is a convenient rationalisation for a society that marginalises them. people don't believe you "only use 10% of your brain" because they misread an fMRI study, they believe it because it's useful bullshit for everyone from hyperindividualist historical revisionists pushing the great genius concept of scientific progress to hucksters recruiting for cults that will teach you to unlock your latent telekinesis for just $5000 a month. that's why it's fucking important to know that many popular science ideas are false and to push back on them loudly and frequently, because they're not just mildly incorrect, they are often active components of systems of violence.
