Where to start though...
This man ABSOLUTELY ADORES turtles and he will make sure you love them too. The old man still loves to yap about them on the socials.
It all started a long time ago, when a young Mika was allowed to drive for team Lotus in 1991. During his years at Lotus, he lived in a house with his team boss Peter Collins and Collins's wife and daughter, a few team members and some mechanics. It immediately became clear that Mika felt most at home surrounded by a lot of company.
That cozy and lively home situation changed when Mika moved to Monaco and had to live there on his own. Keke watched over the money he earned and occasionally gave him an allowance to buy his sparse, plain, boring furniture in his not so cosy home (source: his biography). Looking for some company, Mika decided he wanted a pet to take care of. But most animals need a lot of care and attention and that was not possible to combine with his job. That is why a low maintenance pet had to be found. Mika chose a tortoise (pronounce "turtus") and named her Caroline.
Caroline was given her own room in his apartment and was even allowed to stay in her own room when physiotherapist Mark Arnall needed a place to sleep. Mark Arnall slept in Caroline's room not the other way around.
Mika was always delighted to be greeted by his slow and relaxed pet tortoise wandering around in his house, everytime he had left a fast and busy race weekend behind.
Mika enjoyed taking care for his little green bundle of joy. He potty-trained Caroline and bought a lucky charm plastic turtle to bring him luck during race weeks. The thing was named Brian. It didn't bring him luck :( it's a sad story... 🥺😭
Mika not only had a living and a plastic tortoise at home, but also a plush and wool tortoise. After a photoshoot for Hugo Boss, the employers of the brand gifted Mika a giant turtle plushie, which he absolutely loved.
Being a well-known turtle lover at this point, Mika decided to gift Michael a lifetime commitment after Michael won the WDC in 2002... GUESS WHAT IS WAS... 😭😭

This was a collaborative effort! I drew Mandy, Heidi, Sami, Kalle and Jonne, while Max drew Liz, Kate, Alice, and Kylie.
You might have noticed they're personifications of cars that Kimi and Seb drove. All of them have extensive lore, because Max and I can't seem to stop plotting about. For example, Jonne is banned from the library, but if I annoy Max enough it will be revealed why in a Makkinen sidefic 🤭 That's my plan anyway.

Note: the man holding the umbrella is Mark Arnall, who worked as Sports Therapist for both David Coulthard and Mika Häkkinen, in addition to being Mika's trainer from 1997 until his retirement sabbatical in 2001. Mark then became Kimi's trainer from 2002 until his retirement in 2021.
