I love this. Colby, arguably the most traditionally alpha male on the show, sitting down with Charlie and telling him about his own PTSD as an ex-soldier. And then encouraging Charlie to talk about his feelings, talk about his PTSD, acknowledge it and ask for help if he needs it.
Like they not only did that, they took the guy you would MOST expect to tell Charlie to just “be a man about it,” and instead had him empathize, show compassion, and encourage Charlie to take care of his mental health.
God. This fucking show is so good. It’s so good.
Season four was a rough season but it was also a really GOOD season character development-wise. All the characters have such intense personal journeys, both individually and in relation to each other.
But one of my favorites is Colby and David. The writers could have chosen some unrealistic easy resolution for the whole Janus List situation, but instead they chose to go in a direction that not only showed a new depth to Colby's character, but also that gave the strength of Colby and David's relationship a chance to really shine.
In seasons 2-3 they clearly grew close as partners, but other than a few jokes we never really got to see how deep that friendship ran.
But when their bond is tested and nearly broken, it shows just how close they got during those two years, even though Colby was hiding things. David is more bothered than everyone else because he was closer to Colby than everyone else. He knew things about Colby no one else on the team knew, and told Colby things he didn't tell anyone else.
There was trust and real affection there, enough that David found it extremely hard to forgive Colby's betrayal no matter how good the reason behind it was.
And although it hurts to watch how lonely Colby is without David and how angry and hurt David still is at Colby, watching them slowly become friends again with no secrets between them is just...fantastic and so much more satisfying than some quick sugary resolution would have been.
when rewatching old tv shows I like to play a game called "if tv in the 00s weren't as homophobic which character would be queer"
so...super niche...super specific...no one asked but
in numb3rs it would be colby granger, the storyline would fit with barely any changes
- he's already elusive about dating life for his 1st two seasons because, spoiler alert, he's a triple agent spy but it would also make sense coming from the military and the toxic masculinity of the fbi for him to be quiet about his dating life if he were gay when he first joined the team
- so instead of him suddenly just being like "hey team I'm dating again" and agreeing to go on some blind dates once he's not undercover he could just tack on btw I'm gay
- telling his team this (and in particular his partner sinclair) would be a display of trust, a big theme in season 4
- don't ask don't tell...casual homophobia...they could have addressed these themes
- literally nothing else would even change he would just casual date guys instead of girls
- maybe there'd be something with the sniper guy (there was already tension that is played off as a joke)
- in conclusion: they made colby straight and for what
ps the fact that all the female fbi agents are straight is also weird. nikki def didn't have to be.
No lies detected.
Also remember that episode where Sinclair and Granger brought each other as their date when they made a bet with Niki, cause honestly it would have been better if they weren't jokeing.
Reblogging cause this pride month we all need a reminder that Colby Ganger should have been ( and in our hearts always will be) gay.
