Gold star 'lesbian' Pearl x FTM transmasculine bisexual Scott...
Pearl priding herself on her gold star, loud and proud about her sexuality; she's one of the lesbians who have practically made their lesbianism their entire personality in absence of a Hogwarts house, she wears a lesbian pin on her shirt, can't go into a conversation without making a joke about how disgusting and gross men are. She came from a homophobic household - when she came clean about being gay she was kicked out. She lost contact with her family, her friends, her entire community - it cost her everything in order to be open about being a lesbian, she lost everything, of course she's as loud (and slightly annoying) about it as she possibly can be. She paid a hefty price to come out of the closet, the least she can do to make up for what she lost in the process is to relish in her newfound freedom to express her sexuality, to make it worth it, to the point she shapes her entire identity around being a lesbian to replace the hole in her heart where her community, family, and friends used to be.
This comes crashing down when she meets Scott. Scott, who hasn't transitioned yet but openly presents masculinely, to such a point that most people don't even know he was AFAB (Pearl included). She finds herself romantically attracted to him, and is horrified, because he's a man. She's a lesbian. She shouldn't be attracted to a man - she couldn't be. It's against everything she is, everything she's become. Was everyone really right? Was it just a matter of finding 'the right man'? She sacrificed everything to be able to be a lesbian, to be open about liking and pursuing woman, did she really sacrifice it all for nothing? Was she straight this whole time?
Of course, she wasn't. Pearl is actually a bisexual. But she refuses to accept that - even entertain the idea of bicuriousity. She's one of those lesbians with an ego for not being sapphic, being internalizedly biphobic, because what was the point of being kicked out if she was 'half-straight' the entire time? That's barely queer at all!
In order to try to justify her bisexuality in a way which makes her not bisexual, Pearl comes to a simple conclusion: She is a lesbian. Lesbians like women. She likes Scott. Ergo... Scott, clearly, must be a trans woman and just not know it yet.
This ends up with quite a sitcom-esque situation of Pearl trying to egg Scott on towards transness... unaware he's already trans. She tries to subtly hint Scott towards ideas of being transgender, trying to crack his 'egg', really only making him uncomfortable by offering to help him experiment with she/her pronouns or borrow her clothes if he wanted to or sneaking trans pride pamphlets under his door. Scott, frankly, is getting a lot of mixed signals, because she's making so many comments about being supportive of trans people and keeps sliding pamphlets on exploring being transgender under his door, so she must know, right? But she's also making comments about how good he'd look in dress, and that he has feminine hips, and how she keeps forgetting he's not actually a girl, so he's horribly confused on whether Pearl's transphobic or just the worst ally on Earth.
Pearl, after getting tired of her hints being 'too subtle' or 'flying over his head', sits down with him and has an earnest talk about how she's been getting vibes from him and that perhaps he should explore the avenue of femininity and genderqueerness. Scott... quite hilariously, has to break to her that he's already explored that avenue, and that he's actually AFAB and transmasc.
I imagine, after this, this AU ends in two ways:
One, the Good Ending AU, where Pearl proceeds to have a soulcrushing mental breakdown about being bisexual, and Scott (also bisexual) helps her along her journey to break down her internalized biphobia and they end up in a beautiful bi4bi relationship...
Or, two, the much more likely ending based on Pearl's characterisation in this AU... upon learning that Scott is transgender, Pearl immediately feels validated in her lesbianism as Scott was 'secretly a girl the entire time!', and develops transphobia towards Scott, because he's obviously not actually transmasc but a girl because she's only attracted to girls and, so, he must be just a confused girl. She threatens not only to out him to their entire community and friend group (who thought he was a cis man and were unaware he was AFAB) but to send his entire life crashing down (maybe she's a superior at his work, maybe she's in a prominent social position which could ruin him; whatever the reason, there is a power imbalance she plans to use against him) unless he comes clean about his 'womanhood' himself... and Scott, who only recently came to this town to escape his transphobic family and cannot afford to lose the life he's made here or he'd left to die streets, agrees, if only to keep a roof over his head and his life intact. And, so...
Pearl introduces their friends to her new girlfriend, Scotia, a lesbian (just like her!) and a transfem woman, one they used to know as 'Scott', so please don't bring up her dead name or her time before transition :] she's even already had bottom surgery and breast implants! They're a beautiful 'lesbian'4'transfemlesbian' power couple...
AKA, the most toxic, fucked up secretly bi4bi relationship ever to exist.
