Can you link the source on that?

I'd never thought about him actually meaning a specific serial for that. I always thought he meant just the general trend in online lit of that era to go with lesbians because they're more titillating and less "threatening" than male hetero ships to a certain demographic of readers. (See: every forum quest written between now and forever)

But that he thought Tales of Mu, the web serial that was ENTIRELY about a half-demon girl navigating gay relationships and having lesbian sex at fantasy college was pandering is so funny. She was the biggest sub in the entire fucking world. There was more prose spent on her getting spanked than there was on her backstory.

It was LESBIAN EROTICA, Wildbow, are you kidding me? Are you watching porn and going "ah, well I feel like the decision to moneyshot is really just pandering to what the audience has come to expect rather than doing something new"?

This really feels like a point in the "WB realizes he is aromantic in retrospect" column.

(tangentially, I did like Tales of Mu, up to a point. The fantasy college and world building were generally fun, and I liked a lot of the side cast. It just wears you down when the MC has absolutely rock bottom self esteem and codependence issues and backslides a lot. It was all totally within character for her backstory and circumstances, and it felt very real for her to get caught in those cycles of growth>backslides>growth, but it was also exhausting and I stopped reading after a while.)
