imagine september first.

imagine finally going back to hogwarts.

you’d wake up that morning with butterflies; you’d be anxious to get there, you’d think back on how you haven’t been able to sleep for days because you’ve been so excited.

you’d see your friends you hadn’t seen all summer on the platform. you’d run up to them and give them hugs and do a happy dance because, finally, oh finally, you’re going to be able to share a room again in your dorm and have late night talks and adventures.

you then get on the train and wave to your parents as you start to pull away. you feel sad you won’t see them until the holidays, but then you remember where you’re going. then you remember how they want you to have fun, and how distance doesn’t mean anything when you love someone. and you can write to them, you can still have a piece of them with you.

you make it to your favorite spot on the train and tuck in close to the window. you wrap your house sweater closer to your body and laugh as your friend tells you something funny that happened to them this past summer.

you get something from the trolley and snort from sarcastic laughter when the trolley lady scowls at you and your friends for being too loud.

it’s the same every year, but you love how it never changes.

you finally get to hogwarts. you look out your window as you pull up to the station. you can see the castle in the distance. you can’t help but smile.

you watch as the first years nervously follow hagrid out to the boats, but you wish you could be them again. you wish you could see the castle again for the first time, because nothing beats that memory. it will be forever ingrained in your mind. you wish you could re-live that moment over and over again.

you walk through the castle doors and take a deep breath and close your eyes just for a moment.

you’re finally home.

your moment is taken away from you quickly as one of your friends pulls you along.

you wave to your friends from other houses as you make your way to your house table.

you see people again you can’t stand, but you realize you’re happy to see them too, because they make this experience real.

you watch as the first years get sorted and remember what the sorting hat said to you. you remember how sweaty your palms were as you nervously rubbed them against your new robes. you remember how relieved you felt when you were sorted into the house you thought fit you best.

you smile to yourself as a first year sits at the front of your house table.

your mouth waters as the feast begins.

you grab your favorite food you don’t get at home and eat five servings of it until you are so stuffed you can’t even walk properly.

your friends tell you more stories as you walk to your dorm room for the night.

you look at all the portraits and wave to your favorite one. you make a joking comment to them and they laugh along with you.

you finally enter your dorm room and instantly feel relaxed. so relaxed, that you realize how exhausted you are from not getting any sleep the few nights before.

you make it to your old bed you have grown accustomed to. you smile as you see the old carvings you have made into the bed post.

you set up your corner and kick your trunk underneath your bed. you love that your bed is right next to the window.

your friends fall asleep before you, and you look out your window out at the lake and focus on listening to your friend’s breathing.

you’re home. that’s all you can think about.

you think about how you can’t wait to be back in your favorite class again.

you think about the study sessions in the library.

you think about sneaking around the castle late at night.

you think about all the secret parties in the room of requirement.

this is real. you are experiencing this magic. you never want it to end.

you’re home.

“Tell me to wait for you. Say these words, and I will.”

I watch as he packs his bag. My boyfriend of 2 years, was moving states with his family, during our senior year. “I still can’t believe you’re leaving . . . “ I say in disbelief. “Yeah, me either.” He replied, trailing off. He packs a few more things, closes the suitcase and drags it out to the car, since today was the day they were to leave. 

As he puts the suitcase in the car, I start to tear up. “Don’t cry, babe. I’ll be back to visit soon.” My boyfriend reassures me, as he pulls me into a hug. I hug back tighter, if that was possible. “Do you want me to wait?” I ask. He just looks down. “Just tell me to wait for you! Tell me you love me. Say these words, and I will.” I say, tearing up again. He just pulls me in for a kiss. The kiss is sad, and needy. When he pulls away, he hugs me and whispers in my ear, “I love you. Please wait for me.” I smile through tears and say, “I promise I will. I love you.” 

*5 Years Later*

I sit in my office, typing up a report for my boss. My mind wanders as I near the end of the report. I had kept my promise to my boyfriend, I’ve waited years now for him to come back. I graduated high school the same year he left, with a National Honors Society cord and a few club cords. He did come to visit a few months after moving, but his visits became more and more rare. I don’t think he’s visited in maybe 2 years . . . But I’ve still kept my promise. I used to write to him every 2 weeks, but with my job now, I may only write to him every month or so.

Just then, I hear a knock on my door, that brings me out of my thoughts. “Hey, do you have that report yet?” My coworker asks me. “I do, and it’s . . . just about . . . finished.” I say as I finish typing, and hit print. I staple the papers and hand them to my coworker. “Great, thanks !” she says as she leaves. I sigh and grab my bags to leave, since it was the end of the day.

Once I get home, I shower, change, and eat my dinner. Then, I get  a knock on my door. ‘Now, who would bother me at this time?’ I think to myself. 

My heart jumps for joy when i open the door to reveal my boyfriend. “Oh my God!” I almost scream. When he pulls me in for a hug, I stand on my toes to whisper in his ear, “I kept my promise.” His smile just gets bigger as he kisses me, and twirls me around.

I am a Slytherin

I am the cold whisper of wind in the deep of night, the breeze that rustles the leaves overhead and makes you shiver. I am each pinprick of glittering light on the black velvet sky in the dead of night, a distant watcher you can’t possibly know. I am the poison lying dormant in the benign wildflower and the snake hiding beneath it. I am the silent danger in a deserted alley that tightens your gut and makes your vision narrow because you know you shouldn’t go down there. I am the tightening in your chest when you stand on the edge of a cliff and look down at the water glinting far below, the urge to jump just to see what will happen.

I am the stony front standing before a warm home, the kindness never shown but to those who have proven their worth to me. I am the loyalty to a few and the ferocity of an entire army. I am the line never to be crossed, because the consequences are rarely worth it. I am the risk you take because the pros outweigh the cons, the plan formulated so long ago that the enemy realizes only when they fall that they’ve been nothing more but pawns on a chessboard the entire time. I am the knowledge kept to yourself because you would never relinquish your advantage to make the circumstances fair, the wisdom to know when is the time to be brave and when is the time to lay low and watch how things play out. I am the half-truth that works so much better than the lies, and the truths told as lies so that they will never be believed.

I am the winter morning and midnight in spring, the burn of firewhiskey and the crackling of the dying fire. I am the embers that fly into the air when a log breaks and falls, landing in the grass with the potential to grow into a wildfire. I am the blood in your veins and the one that turns it to ice in the face of fear. I am the goal that others tell you is too high to reach and yet you fight for it all the same. Words to describe someone's voice

adenoidal: if someone’s voice is adenoidal, some of the sound seems to come through their nose
appealing: an appealing look, voice etc shows that you want help, approval, or agreement
breathy: with loud breathing noises
brittle: if you speak in a brittle voice, you sound as if you are about to cry
croaky: if someone’s voice sounds croaky, they speak in a low rough voice that sounds as if they have a sore throat
dead: if someone’s eyes are dead, or if their voice is dead, they feel or show no emotion
disembodied: a disembodied voice comes from someone who you cannot see
flat: spoken in a voice that does not go up and down. This word is often used for describing the speech of people from a particular region.
fruity: a fruity voice or laugh is deep and strong in a pleasant way
grating: a grating voice, laugh, or sound is unpleasant and annoying
gravelly: a gravelly voice sounds low and rough
gruff: a gruff voice has a rough low sound

- I was walking past your house, you had your door open and I saw you dancing in your kitchen and now whenever I hear that song I think about you

- you’re a security guard at an art gallery and you held the door for me so I left you a note in the door where we met I hope you read it

- you’re a seamstress at the place I took my clothes to get fixed and when I got it back it smelled like you so now I’m looking for clothes at the thrift store that have holes in them so that I can go back and see you again

- I left my bag at the park and you saw that it was mine so you chased after me to give it back and now you want to know why I have a bag full of acorns and no umbrella ‘cuz it’s raining

- my dad is your tutor and I came in and saw you struggling so I helped you and now I’ve replaced my dad and you’re adorable goddamn

Fellow Slytherin Malfoy

Shaking, I run toward the seventh floor corridor, when suddenly the door bursts open and Harry, and Draco come tumbling out onto the floor I hurry and grab my wand before Malfoy could do anything as he hurried away from Potter . I point my wand at him and get ready to fire a curse . “Thorne?” He asks. My hand is shaking so bad that it’s visible. “Are you okay?” Malfoy asks. I just crumble to the ground in a panic, unable to breathe. I shake and wheeze in the midst of my panic attack. “Ohmygod Thorne !!” Draco says, rushing toward me. Suddenly, we hear footsteps coming toward us. Draco swears and pulls me off to the side where nobody can see me. I sit where he sat me, trying to catch my breath. Draco manages to get rid of the person, and comes back to me . When I had finally caught my breath, I asked, “why did you help me ?” “I had to help a fellow slytherin.” He says, smirking at me.
