TIERS OF GETTING KIDNAPPED BY ASA
You’ve woken up in a trunk. There is no world where you are about to have a nice time in the coming days, but some fates are significantly preferable to others…
tw torture mention yada yada
S TIER
  • Cherished specimen: He favored you from the moment he got his hands on you. Your features, your behavior, the way you react when his fingers flit across your skin. Like the live insects housed in his private collection, there isn’t anything he’d rather do with you than lock you up in a box and keep you forever. Or until he gets it in his head that you’d look nicer on his wall.
A TIER
  • Passion project: You’re destined for his operating table and later on down the line a pristine, spotless tank in his lobby. You won’t die, not yet, not if he can help it, but you’ll be wishing you could. Shh. That’s enough whining. Trust his process. He’s determined to turn you into something spectacular.
B TIER
  • Failed project, Spare parts, Surgery practice: You haven’t done anything wrong per-se, you’ve simply failed to stand out or aren’t living up to his creative vision. He’ll have to scrap the project and put your parts to better use on someone else. You really can’t hold it against him for not wasting his sedatives on you now, they’re a precious commodity and you won’t have an opinion about the matter when you’re braindead in three hours.
F TIER
  • Guard dog: It turns out that kidnapping you was an immense waste of his time, but he’s still going to get some use out of you one way or another. You won’t be needing your tongue anymore, or your sanity. What’s in the needle? He doesn’t quite know himself. Call it a cocktail. But he’s keen on seeing what happens to your mind when he injects it directly into your carotid artery.
F MINUS MINUS TIER
  • Torture doll: Whatever you’ve done to anger him, it can’t be understated how much you’re about to wish you hadn’t. He might not even kill you today if he can get his temper under control. He might come back and cut little pieces off of you day in and day out for the next month. If your heart gives out before he’s finished, he’ll revive you. Regretting your actions yet? That’s unfortunate. He’s enjoying this far too much to stop.

Assuming that Asa lives in a HOA community, would he either go out of his way to avoid breaking a HOA rule, or would he deliberately (and gleefully) violate one of them for the express purpose of enacting 'malicious compliance' against them for the sheer fun of it?

The lemon-curd yellow he had it painted was not approved in the slightest—but the neighbors across the way enjoyed it so much that nobody complained.

Related headcanon:

His next-door neighbor’s tree (red house) kept growing into HIS yard, and despite his complaints, the association was taking too long to take action. Every time he went downstairs in the morning and saw those gnarled branches protruding over his fence it peeved him off more and more.

The neighbors went on a trip. When they came back, the tree was rotting so badly from the inside that they had to have it extracted before it fell into their house.

Every time he sees them now he offers a little smile and a wave—never reciprocated. They know it was Asa; They just can’t prove it.

Monsterpalooza Time! (2024 Edition)

Last year my partner and I attended Monsterpalooza and had a great time (fun fact: it was his first time going to a not lame convention).

We got there like 10 minutes before they closed, so we were worried we wouldn't be able to see much, but we did and for closing so soon there sure as fuck were still a shit ton of people holy shit

This pic was taken when we were already leaving. We didn't buy much, but I did buy this cool as fuck snake necklace that you can see me wearing on some of these pictures 😎

We both managed to snag a picture with none other than Gus from Breaking Bad Giancarlo Esposito and man he was so nice! He gave me a bunch of compliments and took his time and care to talk to everybody in line and yeah, it was a good time :>

LOOK AT THIS BEAUTY! The picture doesn't do it justice trust me she looked SO FUCKING GOOD AAAAH the paleontologist in me was freaking the fuck out

BONUS PIC: Me and my new wife

After the convention we went to Roscoe's and your girl had herself some chicken and waffles and it was yummy

I present to everyone, basic floorplans (drafts) of Asa's house!!!

Spent at least 10 hours in the last 2 days doing this...I feel like I'm back in architecture school. 🥲 (DO NOT recommend)

Based on my experience, architects who design and build their own houses make really weird buildings, which is why this one looks so odd. I had to piece together the remodel pictures and the old pictures, and they messed with a LOT during the remodel-mostly on the interior. I'm about 90% sure the 1st floor is accurate, and only about 50% for the second floor. 3rd floor seems to just be a real big open space/furnished attic. I didn't include the basement since it's unfinished but if you want it let me know!

Any suggestions/comments welcome! This is just a super rough draft so I can figure out where everything is. After the designs are finalized I'll clean it up and publish the final versions as soon as possible. I'll also put some extra information on the house for all you writers out there. 😉

I'll give about a week for suggestions before I start on the final versions!

HOOOLY SHIT THIS IS AMAZING THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS

What I Wouldn’t Give For A Basic Floor Plan...

I’ve just spent the last HOUR pouring over pictures of Asa’s ‘house’, trying to get an idea of the floor plan, and it’s driving me nutty.

I’ve got a combination of pictures from what the house looked like during filming of the end of ‘The Collection’ and the realtor’s current listing of the house to work with, and I’m trying to figure out from window and door placements where certain rooms are in relation to others.

Here is the front view of ‘Asa’s house’ as it would have appeared during the events of ‘The Collection’. Notice the carport on the left side…

This is the door that’s under the carport. If you were to step through that door, immediately to your right are (what I imagine to be) the double doors to the kitchen.

See the double doors? I imagine you just stepped through them from the ‘mud room’ where the door to the carport is. The small door to the right of the stove is the pantry.

This is the kitchen (the other side of the room in the pervious image). Very cosy, isn’t it?

The luxurious bathroom, which is located at the back of the house on the left-hand side. How do I know? See the long ‘curtain’ with the daylight shining through above it in the second image? Look at a view of the house (from the relator’s website) from the back side…

See the door on the left side at the top of the stairs with the small window above it? That’s the door that leads to the bathroom.

This is a long view of the dining room where Arkin placed the red trunk. That scene still makes me angry. How DARE he…

Here is what appears to be the ‘guest bedroom’, but it’s hard to tell from the windows where it is in relation to the floor plan. Is it on the first floor, or the second?

Here is what appears to be the ‘master bedroom’, but I have the same issue. First floor or second? It’s hard to tell.

At the end of ‘The Collection’, you can see Asa waking up a flight of stairs adjacent to the front hall, but it doesn’t show anything beyond that. However, here is a picture of the house post-remodel that I got off the realtor’s site, and you can clearly see a spiral staircase that leads to the uppermost floor of the house…

…to this room. It works well as either another bedroom, or an office. Either way, it’s awesome.

Here is what appears to be a sitting room on the first floor.

In ‘The Collection’, when Asa comes back down the stairs, he turns and you can very briefly see a small room with a sink…

This is the half bath at the bottom of the stairs. Here is what it looks like in the realtor’s listing…

It’s a lovely house, perfectly ‘normal’ for his ‘Asa Emory, respected Entomologist’ persona.

But can someone please, for the love of kittens and sour blue raspberry candies, tell me where in the floor plan the master and guest bedrooms would most likely be located?

Upper floor? Lower floor? Is one up and the other down?

Also, how likely would it be that this house has a basement? I really, really want there to be a basement…

I need this information for…reference purposes…

Edit - if anyone’s interested, here’s the link to the website that shows the house post-remodel. There are still some elements that carry over between the two, and it did help me get a better feel for the layout for the house as it was in the film.

Searching the address on Google Maps and getting a street view was awesome!

EDIT -  I recently received a message from  @hongzhizhu and I can now officially give him credit as the source of the pictures of Asa’s house as it was in the movie that I used in this post.
I remember browsing tumblr after watching ‘The Collector’ for the first time and I came across someone’s tumblr post before I even had a tumblr account of my own, and saved the images to my computer because I thought they were fascinating.
Unfortunately, I didn’t even think to copy down the source of the images at the time, but I was actually hoping the original poster might come across this post and contact me. And it happened this morning!
Thank-you  @hongzhizhu !

yoinks this post again for writing purposes

imo sharing your art for free online for strangers to see it requires a lot of courage. A lot of mental strength. Im being serious rn i think if youve ever shared anything online and even if its not popular even if only a few people have seen it i think thats very very brave

what are the most interesting things you've come across while researching for a fic?

it's not necessarily huge revelations or anything, just things like "how much damage does [insert weapon here] actually cause/how does it affect a person afterwards", or some deeper research into psychological and even neurological disorders (recently been delving into CIP/congenital insensibility to pain, which proves difficult as it is very rare), etc... especially because movies aren't exactly the most reliable source, and when I'm writing I wanna make sure things are as accurate as they can be :>

I'm so happy that you are back but most importantly, that you are feeling better ♥️ you forever changed the chemistry in my brain, I swear to god Red Room is engraved in my skin, I read it religiously every month for comfort on my periods, now I can close my eyes and read it in my mind. You are my favorite Asa writer, thank you pookie, I'm following you forever (in a non threatening way)

AAAaaaHHhh you guys really need to stop being so damn sweet ;v; I'm glad a random little fanfic I made is giving you so much comfort,,, reading this genuinely made my day

1. the last sentence you wrote

“He pressed the object against your skin and you knew now that this most definitely was a knife; the cold, sharp steel blade biting into your soft tissue.”

22. do you ever worry about public reaction to what you're writing? how do you get past that?

I used to, in the very beginning! putting your work out there at first is extremely nerve wracking, but imo the payoff negates it. just having people tell you that they love your stories puts you at ease and motivates you to keep going. the few negative comments you get along the way will feel like nothing in comparison (don't confuse outright vitriol with constructive criticism, though!)

I got past it by honestly just posting regardless. even if I wasn't especially proud of something I wrote. just go FUCK IT and do it and I promise it will pay off and you might come to be proud of the fic in the end, after all :> and if not you can always just delete it and act like it never happened lmao

26. are you able to write with other people around?

PFFFT nah, not really. mostly because I have a harder time concentrating on what I'm writing. I do however like to discuss a wip with my partner every once in a while, as a form of getting some constructive criticism, if I'm not too convinced of what I'm writing lmao

29. how easy is it for you to come up with titles?

it depends! sometimes they come to me very easily and other times I struggle and put it off until the fic is finished djjodwojo

Anonymous asked:

27 and 28 for the writing process list?

27. your favorite part of the writing process

the research! I am naturally a curious person, so when I have to look something up for the purpose of my story it always excites me... especially the gross stuff djaojdoadji,, did you know that there's a website with a guide on how to write realistic injuries?

28. your least favorite part of the writing process

powering through a part of the story that doesn't interest me but is needed for progression, which can at times even be a full chapter ;v;
