hi why do I keep reading censored sentences containing words such as 'offing' oneself or 'unaliving' someone in otherwise brilliantly written fic on beautiful, censorship-free archive of our own.

it's a website without any sort of algorithm, created specifically so that anyone can post whatever they want as long as it doesn't go against the guidelines. obviously, that also means that if people want to censor words like this, they're free to do so, but seriously. why should we start censoring ourselves on ao3 when it's not needed like it is on social media platforms like twitter, instagram etc.? in my opinion censoring our writing is actively harmful to a website that was created for the specific purpose of 'everyone can write what they want and it won't be taken down unless there's a guideline violation' but hey. you do you. I just need to rant about this. because reading censored fics feels like being trapped in a nightmare.

you don't have to be afraid of getting filtered out by an algorithm for saying cock, and you don't have to afraid of scaring away sponsors for saying sex, and you probably won't lose readers for anything like that either as long as you give your fic the correct rating and tags.

although I think it's ridiculous to censor your own writing on ao3, as I said, everyone can do what they want, but for God's sake do not start censoring your tags so that readers can still filter out your work according to preferences or triggers. if you censor your tags, the filter becomes unusable.

I'm just. soso tired of the censoring that's been happening on social media and it'd be fab if we could keep ao3 censor-free <3 censorship, both in the tags and in writing, defeats the entire purpose of ao3.

one of the best things about being a max fan is that whenever people come out of the woodwork to try to discredit him and his achievements, you get to just sit back and relax knowing max will continue to prove them wrong again and again. like, it’s not even bias when you have a literal track record to support the number of times max has delivered despite all odds. good car, great car, not so great car, he’ll still be the same incredibly skilled driver and will continue winning whether his detractors like it or not. feels good man.
