hi, fountain pen nerd here (also destiny nerd). different materials question from all the ink ones you've gotten, but if you don't mind me asking, what paper(s) do you use for your art? it takes the ink like a champ while still seeming to preserve a lot of the ink's qualities and crispness, and i'm deeply curious. btw, the sense of mood in your pieces is consistently stunning and on point, no matter what exactly it is. your works are so, so cohesive

Hello and thank you so much! 💙 Aaah, the right paper is always the toughest to find, yet - imo - the most important... I'm always in search for it and I like to experiment and use different papers.

For now my favorite paper to use is in the Rhodia Pen & Inkwash A4* sketchbook. It has a rather shitty binding (it literally fell apart in my hands, lmao), but it handles both inks and markers extremely well and is a pleasure to work in mix media. Hahnemühle Nostalgie, Fabriano Accademia 120gsm or 160gsm** are also okay to work on, but not as good as Rhodia, especially in terms of showing off inks' chromatography.

For artworks done purely in ink (or those that require too much water or layering) I use Arches hot pressed watercolour paper (before getting Arches I used Baohong S8, also hot press - it's the best out of less pricey 100% cotton papers imo).

As for the toned paper - both Clairefontaine Paint'ON Naturel and Stilman & Birn Nova beige sketchbook work equally well with inks and markers. Talens Art Creation sketchbook is also nice (but only those with yellowish paper).

* - it's A4 sketchbook specifically. I also have 21x21 cm sketchbook with the same name, however it has awfully bad paper that is almost impossible to use for inks. From what I've seen, a few people also had similar issues with their square sketchbooks.

** - NOT 200 gsm! Despite having the same name, 200gsm is very different from both 120 and 160, both in texture and in behavior. Which is sad, I hoped to get the same paper, just thicker :(

I'm intrigued as to Osiris's tattoos, from what I've managed to read up is that he was resurrected with them? but they're absolutely fascinating in design and I love how you make them even more prominent on him with your artwork! It's truly beautiful!

Aaah thank you, and I agree, they're gorgeous!! ❤️‍🔥 However, in canon I think it's safe to say he doesn't have them at all - at least in that only cutscene where we've seen his hands without gloves, he didn't. He only has them on this concept art (which btw Bungie uses quite often):

So the rest of his tattoo pattern (as well as him having it at all) is purely my headcanon. And according to it - yes, he was resurrected already with them and thus has no idea neither how he got them, nor what their meaning is. He didn't think much of it for the longest time, but I'd say that this choice of shapes and colors is too pointy to be a simple coincidence.

hi hello!! I hope it's ok to dm but I've been going around circles trying to find more destiny 2 players in order to play more raids and other endgame, but it feels like the player base is dwindling. 😭 I was wondering if you still play D2 and if you’d be interested in joining our little group of artists and writers who still want to enjoy the game together! 💖 we're in dire need of new players u_u

Hey, sorry for the late reply! Thank you, that sounds cool, but unfortunately I myself barely play at all these days ; u ; I log in the game every now and then, but sadly nowhere near as much as I used to.

BUT I think gameplay-wise Destiny 2 is super fun, so I hope you'll find more people to play with! Maybe even someone here will be willing to help you out?..

Hey its cool if you don't feel like answering this ask but I've been wondering, If given a chance how would you handle designing a 3rd Darkness subclass.

What sort of textures would you try to use?

How would you decide on a color scheme?

What theme would you want this class to embody?

I guess given the next Destiny expansion coming up I've begun wondering what a 3rd darkness subclass would look like (if one is ever implemented) and given how absolutely Beautiful your art is in general I'm curious to see what your take on such a concept would look like.

Again you don't have to answer this ask if you don't want to.

Thank you! I think I got a similar question before and I'll probably repeat myself here, but I'd really like to have something, well, Dark for the Darkness subclass. Yes, I'm boring like that 😅 I'd love to have something visually similar to SIVA Taken perhaps - mostly black and not too flashy, or to SIVA the Witness' pyramids stuff - with waves and particles. So far to me personally SIVA Void is the best Darkness subclass both visually and in mood, I'd like to have something equally edgy and cool like SIVA 🤣

But I haven't thought about it in much detail other than just let us use SIVA please that, so I don't have much to say here, sorry ; w ;

If you’re willing to say, what inks do you use?

I’ve recently taken up writing with a glass dip pen, and while I love the inks I currently have, I’d also like to find more options. The ones you use are so richly coloured!

Hey! I use fountain pen inks of different brands - Diamine, J.Herbin, Pilot, Sailor, Fanyantan, Waterman, etc. I don't have a certain brand preference, mostly I just pick up whatever colors I like or look for the ones I need. Though I think the majority of my inks are from Diamine - they have a huge variety of colors, both "simple" and chromatographic, and were relatively cheap and easy to get back when I was just starting. Places like Mountain of Ink and InkSwatch are very helpful for choosing and comparing inks too.

I also answered similar questions here and here, you can check out these posts too for some recommendations as well!

I need u to know that I love purples and blues in destiny and that your lord felwinter is the coolest piece of destiny fanart ive ever seen I would buy two prints of it so I could put one on my wall and eat the other. I hope you have an amazing day

Hey do you do commissions?

If not do you ever plan to do commissions?

Hey! For now I don't and can't say for sure when I will. I'll make a post about it beforehand in my social networks tho!

Nerds (affectionate)

+ extra cute bonus:

For those who like sketchbook photos p■qω・´)

This is my "new" sketchbook (new because it's the first thing I drew in it and "new" because it's been laying empty for months before that) that has this yellowish paper I easily get tired of. It gives everything a very clear warm yellow undertone that's not always wanted, but fitting sometimes - like for these two, with their earthy warm "spiced caramel apple" color scheme 🧡

(There's seriously too much stuff glued in there, but over the years I've gathered so many cool paper things that I honestly can't stop adding them on the page alsjkdhflksa)

the reveal that all your art is traditional is absolutely blowing my mind, the colors are SO VIBRANT? you inspire me to make my own destiny art like no other <3

Thank you!! 💙 It's honestly a little funny to me, because I often catch myself thinking that my art isn't as good/clean/smooth/flawless/etc as digital works, but then people will mistake it for digital art and I'm like "Oh." 🥴

The vibrancy and smoothness of colors is all thanks to the inks that I use. Unlike watercolor/gouache/acrylic/etc paints, inks aren't made of pigments; it's fully artificial dyes, so they can get as vivid and bright as it's technically possible. The downside is that most of them aren't lightfast at all, so I keep all my works in sketchbooks or tightly closed dark folders; and even then some colors slowly fade with time.

Good afternoon:> I wanted to say I really like your art it looks so amazing! I love how you draw timur, Osiris and Felwinter is just phenomenal! And I wanted to also ask you a question. May I ask how you portray Felwinter personality wise? Or in any way in general? I like hearing peoples head cannons and ideas on him :)

Thank you, I'm very glad you like my work!! 🥺💙

As for Felwinter - it's honestly hard to say… I'm not good at describing characters in general and Felwinter is a particularly complicated guy OTL I try my best to reflect what I think of him in my art, I guess. It's way better than anything I can come up with with words.

Perhaps for me one of his key features is for him to be practical and reasonable in a little off-human way. I think he's doing much better work than Red with his famous "just kill the problem" solution for everything, but still. Some of his words and actions may seem a bit too weird, blunt or even cruel, but the only thing he thinks of is the most effective method to achieve his goal. He says and does what he thinks must be said and done, caring very little about what other people think of it or of him because of it (unless that directly affects whatever is it he's doing).

Counterpoint to your earlier voice thing: Felwinter sounds like a 20s radio announcer.

  • Transatlantic accent (everyone has an accent whether they realise it or not, but the lack of a distinctive origin would fit. It's also artificial by nature)
  • Weirdly and conspicuously detached from emotion
  • More mechanical than a human or typical Exo, probably. Unusual fuzziness to his voicebox that start crackling and popping when he is upset.

I dunno, I just keep hearing Felwinter with Fred Astaire's voice when I read the lore tabs and that post reminded me of it.

That's interesting point of view, thank you! 👀 I agree that his voice should sound a little off - I believe it was even specifically highlighted in the lore, that he sounds kind of too flat/eerie even for an Exo (to normal people like Saladin at least). And it seems like the unique feature of Felwinter specifically, since Red is pretty expressive both with his manner of speaking and with his voice.

Dark Disquiet

Ok, it's time to take a closer look at this one (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)

As usual, I used fountain pen inks for overall coloring, alcohol-based markers for extra shading and some bleach and gouache to add highlights.

Here are some color tests done on a separate sheet of paper that I glued in later. I didn't use all these colors featured here, nor all colors I used are shown here (for example, I didn't add the main black I used for this one because I knew I'm gonna use it anyway, so no need for swatching) - it was more like trying to find the main tone of the painting. Will it be more blue or more violet, colder or warmer shade - I wasn't sure then and had to play around with inks to find out.

Aaaand my favorite trick saved for the last! I used fluorescent ink and gouache to highlight Felwinter's LEDs, so when we turn on the UV light...

(tbh it's not that much of a difference, but at the same time it kind of looks like as if was meant to be viewed this way... Maybe because it's closer to what you would've seen if you really were standing there)

Once again, thank you all for the huge response! 💙💜💙

congrats on making it onto the tumblr radar!

Asdfjslkdjfs thank you!!! ; w ; 💙💜 It was so out of blue, I've opened Tumblr and got tsunamied with notes, didn't even realize what happened at first.

Mindblown by the fact my art showed up there, but not by it being the art of Felwinter. OF COURSE it has to be him! 🔥 (A bit unwell about this guy)

A little sad I didn't have time to make a post with sketchbook photos, UV light and everything before this minute of fame tho alskdhfslkjahf

ANYWAY, as always, huge thanks to everyone enjoying and supporting my art in general and this one in particular, you guys are the best!
