Doing this doesn’t reward you with more money or whatever. It rewards you with more work.

what ppl defending kids on ipads don’t seem to understand is that there are other ways to keep kids occupied. my mom had a whole bag full of little toys and games for me to play with while waiting in lines at disney world. once your kid is like 7 or 8 they can read a book. they can color. or they can literally just sit there and imagine things. i did that a lot as a kid.

Genuine question? Why do IPad parents act like there's nothing else you can give your child to play with. Ok maybe they don't like reading, or coloring and want to play something. Tetris consoles are still available, so are those handheld water game thingies ( where you have two buttons and the air pushes plastic rings around). These will occupy your kid for longer but still it won't make them what to rip your throat if you decide to take it from them.

Like your child should learn how to be bored but if you truly need a break there are better options than allowing them access to endless TikTok videos.

Know what's cheaper than an IPad? A fuckin etch-a-sketch, a little fidget toy, a stick.

Like, technology has its place but it shouldn’t be used as a replacement for actual parenting and education. My almost 3 year old is really good at entertaining herself because she has a lot of opportunities to practice being bored. She’s learned how to behave at restaurants and wait in lines without using a screen. The only time we utilize a tablet in public is when we’re in the car for longer than 30 minutes and even then she doesn’t use it the whole time she frequently takes breaks on her own to sing songs or point out stuff out the window

This is like. vital to adulthood survival and I'm not exaggerating even a little. ESPECIALLY if said child is adhd. learn healthy coping mechanisms for boredom at an early age and it'll make adult life a thousand times easier to handle and navigate.

like you do not have to force a child to sit still be quiet to the point of being a statue. i think we all know how much that fucking sucked. however, that is still a good thing to practice on occasion because there WILL be times that is necessary. (like, if they have a particularly strict teacher in school or something) so make a game out of it! parents should engage in these practices too!

anyway if humanity got by for all of human history up until the last few decades without an electronic device to occupy children (and still do in many parts of the world), trust me it is indeed possible to do in a completely reasonable and healthy way.

Work vacuum died. This is the fifth one since I started working here five years ago.

The first one died because my coworker vacuumed up rocks.

The second one died because my coworker vacuumed up rocks.

The third one died because my coworker vacuumed up rocks.

The fourth one died for unknown reasons that involved my coworker vacuuming up rocks.

The fifth one died a few minutes ago and it was a big mystery and my coworker was like “oh I don’t know what happened it just overtaxed for some reason” so I looked inside the hose and—get this—it was jammed with rocks.

He keeps buying bigger and more expensive vacuums and complaining about how shitty and faulty the last ones were and every time I suggest something like “what if you didn’t vacuum up rocks” he’s like oh no it is the vacuums who are wrong.

also i like being able to switch styles of grammar/typing its very important to me. if you establish that you always type in lowercase with passable punctuation but then suddenly you hit people with proper grammar and full capitalization? It's over. It's as though you're speaking in another voice. You can scare people with it, which is funny to me. I've subtly shifted my tone, now here is a different version of me. You get the idea.

if im being totally honest, the biggest reason I wish people on this website had paid more attention in english class and had reading comprehension is so that they would understand when and why jokes are funny. Maybe if y'all understood that a line like "None of these words are in the bible" is only funny because its totally unexpected. Or maybe if y'all understood how to construct jokes for yourself, we wouldn't have so many comments like "OP check your carbon monoxide detector" because you'd ALSO know how to build a joke. but anyways its the weekend so im fine about this. I'm normal about this. im NOT bothered.
