i don't wanna sound hopeless but i feel like so many of you don't care or have stopped caring about palestine.

the news of hospitals being bombed, children being massacred, people dying from the cold, and the famine spreading in gaza does not seem enough to grab attention or make people care.

what new tragedy needs to befall gaza for you to start talking about it? the occupation kills a child every few minutes. people are cold and are starving. refugee camps are being bombed with bombs that can level city blocks.

this all happens because of all of us. we are complicit in this genocide because our governments use the taxes we pay to send weapons to the occupation. weapons that are used to kill children and impose a blockade that is starving 2 million people.

the very fact that we're still going about our days when all of this is going on breaks my heart. especially because we have failed to stop our governments from using our money to arm israel.

i urge you, please be generous and donate to suad and her baby khaled. he is just six months old and suad is unable to find any formula for him. if she finds anything, it is extremely expensive. the baby also needs warm clothes and is suffering from a respiratory problem and needs a nebulizer.

@suad-khaled has been verified [#279]

If you're going to a protest, wear a mask, not makeup. Makeup designed to confuse AI can still get you recognized by law enforcement, and Juggalo makeup won't be helpful as Juggalo's are recognized as a gang by the FBI. Stay safe. Wear full face masks, hide piercings and tattoos or any other distinguishing features.

Please reblog so this can reach more people.

Yes, you saw what you saw.

Yes, you saw what you saw. Yes, he did what you thought he did. Yes, they aired that with their whole chest.

The next thing they will do is deny that it happened. (you saw wrong, it wasn't what you thought it was, etc) After that they will try to downplay it (it was a joke, he didn't mean it like that, it's a "roman salute," etc) They will try to claim it was the work of AI. (its a deep fake, it's a smear campaign, it's hate speech, etc) They will do everything they can to sweep it aside. Then they will try to bury it. Then they will distract you with meaningless bullshit.

Do not fall for it. Do not believe it. Do not be gaslit.

You saw what you saw. He did what he did. And we need to make sure that we do not forget.

I was a kid with a Hunger Games hyperfixation and, from time to time, I'll get reminded of the books. With Trump's inauguration and the TikTok ban and unban, I can't stop thinking about a political tactic called panem et circenses, or bread and circuses.

In Mockingjay, Collins writes "'It’s a saying from thousands of years ago, written in a language called Latin about a place called Rome,' he explains. 'Panem et Circenses translates into "Bread and Circuses." The writer was saying that in return for full bellies and entertainment, his people had given up their political responsibilities and therefore their power.'"

In Collins' world, the Hunger Games was the entertainment. In ours, it's social media. Twitter, Meta, TikTok, are all controlled by political powers. Musk, Zuckerberg. TikTok is owned by Yiming and Rubo, but with the ban and unban, the content it shows in America is filtered to fit Trump's political agenda.

It's entertainment at the cost of information.

it’s gonna be an official policy to only have two genders. an official fucking policy preventing basic recognition of thousands of queer people living here. this is fucking insane.

but most importantly, we persevere. we show trump that we’re never going away or being suppressed. don’t let him push us around.

The Trump administration has cancelled thousands of flights for refugees that went through years of vetting and security checks who most of which fled from war and persecution.

This includes Afghan refugees who helped the United States against the Taliban in critical stages during the War in Afghanistan who were approved to resettle in the United States following years of vetting now stranded with no where to go.

Also btw trump recognizing only "the two biological sexes" harms intersex people too. I am a researcher of sex and it's affects on disease, and sex is far more complicated than "two sexes" and it always will be. Sex is multifaceted and there are far more than two binary sexes. Keep that in mind too. Don't fall into bioessentialism as you fight for trans people and intersex people.

Trump getting inaugurated on MLK Jr. Day is a hate crime. I don't care what anyone says.

Imani Barbarin- @crutches_and_spice on tiktok said something that's been stewing in my head for a few days. (If you don't follow her, you should).

The memeifying of politics has completely decontextualized what is actually happening in politics. It is such an isolating thing to do, and distracts from the actual important things.

And it's not just politics, it's people, and personal life stories. A prime example that comes to mind is the "my Sheyla" TikTok sound. And there are articles pertaining to the context being: Tyrese Gibson crying about a custody battle for his daughter. There is an article saying that they are able to have a relationship and they laugh about the sound now. But few people up until recently knew the context of that sound, and how truly hard of a situation it must have been for him to go through.

Meme culture has shaped so much in the last 10-15 years, and it's all well and great to laugh at things. However, I think it's important to know what you are memeifying, and if it's appropriate to. Especially if it is something as big as politics where people need to stay informed or one of the most challenging life situations.

There's also some thoughts swirling about consent too (if a person initiates it as a meme vs. it gets taken and put into a meme), but that might be another post.
