vaginal infections, utis, and extreme ph imbalances are no fucking joke. please wash your goddamn hands before you stick your fingers in someone

100%, and in case anyone was unsure - this applies to transfems who have had vaginoplasty/vulvoplasty as well! safer sex and hygiene applies just as much to neogenitals

the stain of my failure to become a worthy heir has seeped deep into my family, even as ive been banished from the roster. my affinity for the feminine has severed me from my birthright. none of the failures, vagabonds or wastrels that once called me brother have the might to shoulder the mantle, but i will shirk it all the same. this bloodline ends with me

the scheming retainers of the head family: your father will forgive and reinherit you if you humble yourself and appear before him. you can even be a little faggy with it me: no more of this talk. [clutches my right eye of darkness] im gainfully employed as a maid now

At some point artists need to stop lending legitimacy to the idea of "art style theft".

I realise that this is the aspiring petit-bourgeoisie website, but seeing questions like "Can I reference/colour-pick your art?" be treated with anything but contempt is endlessly maddening. Like, if your response is "Sure! 🙂" rather than "You are allowed to do that with anyone's art" then you are just feeding into the notion that these are perfectly legitimate things you need to ask permission for.

"Rationalism" is up there with "Objectivism" in terms of "definitionally funny things to call your own belief system".

"Yeah man I've been doing some thinking and philosophy and I've come up with a framework called Being Right"

throughout history, the wealthy and powerful tend to create a set of rules for themselves to follow- european gentry, for example, developed specific rules for speech, dress, eating, manners, etc etc. and to some extent these rules did restrain them, but at the same time, it gave them power- by following these rules, you show your status as someone with power, both to other powerful people, and to those of lower class. certainly there were nobles who chafed under these rules, but the vast majority of them, consciously or subconsciously, accept them as the price for power, even enjoyed performing them as a status symbol. it would be ridiculous to say that the nobility was oppressed by feudialism- they wielded incredible power and freedom to use that power to hurt others, even if they had to play by a handful of rules to do so.

this post is about men.

Are we as a society ready to talk about the really horrific tragedy of magneto as a character though. Do you ever think about it. So much of Erik is defined by trauma & the status quo demands he remains a villain -- going back and forth, sure, but always returning to the same fearful-hatred mindset that leads to thinking Kill Everyone will solve his problems, because violence is all he's ever known. This feels multiplied by the fact that because his backstory is tied to real-world historical events, Erik actually ages in a way the rest of marvel's cast doesn't really (sliding timescale, multiverse timeline reboot etc whatever) while his trauma literally anchors him to that specific point in time ... the thing about magneto is that he will always be a holocaust survivor and will never know peace. Which is such an insane thing to have going on typically in the subtext of "Old Man Destroys Public Landmark With Big Magnet Powers"

Gripping your shoulders. Magneto is permanently stuck in a loop of just never truly healing from what happened to him, trapped in that point in time while the rest of the world moves and renews itself without him. Can we talk about the reality-bending horror of being the one character unaffected by the sliding timescale while the narrative demands you never get better

Can't explain my reasoning but do we think estrogen could have saved magneto. It's worth a shot

Hey girl I know the narrative won't allow you to ever truly change and heal and grow as a person and like be happy etc but do you want to escape the superhero genre status quo and maybe also your gender ? There's just sort of a vibe. I don't know

The very basics of feminism, i think, is the acknowledgment that for every form of oppression that women face there is simply not an equal and opposite force. It does not exist and attempts to create such forces are historically always anti-feminism, a way to shut up women or otherwise take attention away from them in their own movements. “Men also suffer under the patriarchy” is like, the modern most “feminist” restatement of this idea i think, and it serves to soften or draw attention away from the fact that opting into patriarchy lends men a ton of power.

I rarely bring this up because it feels like fairly silly and low-stakes compared to all the other effects of american imperialism, but one of the funniest things when Americans deny that living in the imperial core and the center of global cultural hegemony confers them any sort of privilege over people from the imperial periphery is that like. In order for this conversation where you tell me you have no privilege over me to even be able to take place one of us had to learn the other's language, and it wasn't you.

I think the fact that by default the onus of learning the other's language to enable communication is always put on the other side is a pretty significant privilege on the cultural front.

Someone commented this post with "So if I learned, say, Hawaiian and talked to a hawaiian person, then the hawaiian would be privileged? Come on, think about what you're writing, man" and then blocked me as soon as I tried to reply, so.

Monolingual anglophones are a deeply solipsistic people unable to think about international power dynamics on any level beyond the individual to comprehend that "one guy making the individual choice to learn your language" does not represent the same level of linguistic hegemony and privilege as "millions of people all over the world learning specifically your language because they're expected to be able to speak it as a near-universal requirement for any kind of upward mobility while learning a second language is never expected of you"
