pro!ushijima, who isn't used to be around kids, is the most popular athlete among elementary students. it's not unusual to see him alway surrounded by kids after a match, asking for photos and autographs. his stoic face has always a concern look trying to keep up with the kids' enthusiasm. you're always happy to help him to get the photos done with the kids, as you love seeing him around kids.

later he would say he doesn't know how to behave around them but, deep down, you both know that he's amazing with kids. he will answer each questions seriously and give each kid the time to answer all their questions. he doesn't use the baby voice like everyone else (like you), yet he comes extremly soft talking to them.

his mail is usally kids talking about him being their role model and, every time, it melts him. later at night, when you two are lying in the bed, your head over his chest and one of his hand tracing some invisible lines on your arms and stomach, he would speak about those letters very fondly. he remembers every name and stories. when you and ushijima go back to japan to spend the holidays with his family, he gest extremly happy whenever he meets one of them.

ushijima tried his hardest not to look as if he wasn't bored in the ongoing interview. well, he wasn't. but he has been told by their manager that his resting face looks very unapproachable.

he was fiddling with his fingers as the rest of his team members were answering fan questions. letting out a small smile whenever he finds some questions funny and the way that kourai reacts overdramatically. 

"ah, here's a question for big boy, wakatoshi!" kourai announced as he squinted his eyes on the influx of questions.

"yes?" ushijima responded, sitting up a bit more upright. 

"is your girlfriend single?" kourai bit his lip as he tried not to laugh at the question. 

the spiker furrowed his eyebrows in thought. 

"i do not have a girlfriend." was all he said.

“do you need the winter blankets out?” ushijima peaks from around the corner of the linen closet.

“hmm? no, how come?” you look up from the book you’re reading. he’s looking through the blankets with a concentrated look. you smile.

“you were trying to take the blankets last night,” he carries a heavier blanket to the bed, draping it over your legs. “are you too cold?”

you put the book down, dog earring the corner. ushijima frowns at this. you quickly unfold it before he gets too upset. “no, i don’t think i was chilly. but i must have been,” you pull the quilt over your body, flattening it to cover his side too.

“i want to make sure you rest well,” he yawns, sliding in himself. “i brought the other blankets down from the top shelf in case this isn’t enough.”

“thank you ‘toshi,” you kiss his lips and he smiles. “what can i do to make sure you rest well?”

he’s quiet for a moment.

“hold me?”

you wrap your arms around him, nuzzling inbetween his shoulder blades.

“always.”
