But Kieran just can't allow himself to let it get close enough, can't handle the panic that its mere presence instills

RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT. OK AND LIKE. I never mentioned this before but the isecarmine "zoroark encounter"/how she met her zorua is that it reached into the memories she had locked away and like. Picked out whatever fractures it could and disguised itself as Kieran (generally from more prominent moments in carmine's memories, the first time zorua approaches her it's as Kieran looked at their parents' funeral). And carmine doesn't know who this kid is that her new partner is disguising himself as and it's driving her NUTS. I think in terms of isecombine they look similar enough that they know there's obviously SOME connection between the two, but even so carmine doesn't KNOW Kieran anymore and Kieran is NOT helping the situation at all.

OF COURSE!! That little fellow is named Fifi, and they got seperated from their herd and swept into the Mirelands. Originally, they start hanging with Kieran because they're not strong enough to make it on their own and really just hate to fight, but eventually they become friends. Fifi is kind of just a little baby? I don't know how else to explain it. They're a bit air-headed and tends to get lost in their own world, but they can also be incredibly stubborn. Kieran tried REALLY hard to turn Fifi into a battler, but they just... refused. They also refused to stop travelling with Kieran despite their initial issues.

what would happen if Kieran lost his memory instead of carmine?

I think it would be similarly angsty but Carmine would be a lot more vocal and clingy about it whereas Kieran, while not fully reverting to his Teal Mask personality, would be a bit more quiet about how uncomfortable this whole situation makes him.
