The sun rises over the quiet little town, golden light filtering through the lace-trimmed curtains of a cozy home. The air smells of fresh coffee and buttery pancakes, and a soft tune drifts from the vintage radio sitting on the kitchen counter.
Y/N hums along to the melody as she flips a pancake, dressed in a pastel polka-dot dress, her hair curled into soft waves. She doesnβt think about why she woke up feeling content. She doesnβt question why this life feels soβ¦ right.
A yawn echoes from the hallway, followed by the slow shuffle of bare feet on hardwood.
βDoll, do you always wake up this early?β
Bucky leans against the doorway, rubbing a hand over his face. His hair is slightly messy, like he just rolled out of bed. Heβs wearing a white undershirt and navy pajama pants, the fabric clinging to his broad frame. But something is different.
It looks completely normalβflesh and bone, just like his right one.
Y/N doesnβt think twice about it.
βSomebody has to make sure you donβt leave the house without eating,β she teases, flashing him a smile as she plates the last pancake.
Bucky smirks as he crosses the kitchen in a few lazy strides, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. βMm, you smell nice,β he murmurs against her hair, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. βAlmost makes me wanna stay home all day.β
She laughs, elbowing him lightly. βSit down, you flirt. Breakfast is ready.β
Bucky doesnβt let go right away. He just holds her there for a second, swaying them both slightly in the warmth of the kitchen. Then, with a content sigh, he finally lets her go and takes a seat at the small dining table.
Y/N sets a plate in front of him and pours him a cup of coffee just the way he likes itβtwo sugars, no cream. Bucky watches her with a small smile, like heβs memorizing every movement.
βWhat would I do without you?β he muses, cutting into his pancakes.
βYouβd starve,β Y/N replies without missing a beat.
Bucky chuckles. βCanβt argue with that.β He takes a bite, humming in approval. βYou make the best pancakes, doll. Iβm tellinβ ya, if I wasnβt already married to you, Iβd have to marry you for these alone.β
Y/N shakes her head with a laugh. βAnd here I thought you married me for my charm and good looks.β
βThat too,β he says, winking. βBut the pancakes definitely sealed the deal.β
They eat in comfortable silence for a moment, the radio filling the space with soft music.
Then, a knock at the door.
Y/N wipes her hands on a kitchen towel before heading to the front door. When she opens it, a familiar redhead beams at her.
βGood morning, neighbor!β
Wanda Maximoff stands on the porch, holding a covered dish. Sheβs wearing a floral dress, her hair pinned back in soft curls. Next to her, Vision stands in a neatly pressed sweater vest and slacks, offering a polite nod.
βWanda! Vision! What a lovely surprise,β Y/N greets, stepping aside. βCome in!β
Wanda hands her the dish with a warm smile. βJust a little something I baked this morning. Apple pie, fresh from the oven.β
βOh, Wanda, youβre too sweet. You didnβt have toββ
βNonsense! What are friends for?β Wanda waves off the protest, stepping inside. βBesides, I had a feeling Bucky would appreciate a good homemade pie.β
At the table, Bucky perks up. βPie?β
Vision chuckles as he takes a seat across from him. βI believe you have just been bribed.β
Wanda grins. βGuilty.β
Y/N shakes her head fondly as she sets the pie on the counter. βWell, in that case, coffee for everyone?β
As she moves to pour the drinks, she catches Wandaβs gaze. For a split second, something flickers behind her green eyesβsomething unreadable. But itβs gone just as quickly, replaced by the same warm, friendly expression.
Y/N blinks. She mustβve imagined it.
