I am Falling

@vitamin-zeeth

they/them/any | 17 | temporarily a high school musical fan account | im also thinking about women | art blog @zeeth-scribbles

we need more pathetic female characters written by authors who don't hate women

to be clear since this is making the rounds: she has to be an absolute loser in no way that can be pinned on her gender. no "i'm just a girl tee-hee" stuff. straight up just a loser (nondenominational)

addendum: she must be the most important person in the whole narrative

I decided to sit down and concentrate and properly write the list of rules that qualify a character for this role.

  • FIRST LAW: This character must be a woman.
  • SECOND LAW: This character must be a loser, but not in a way that can be pinned on her gender. Misogynistic response from the audience does not disqualify the character.
  • THIRD LAW: If the audience does not enjoy this character, then it becomes impossible to enjoy the show/film/book/game altogether. It is not possible to ignore this character, for better or for worse.
  • FOURTH LAW: The character must make bad decisions, and not just be a victim of poor circumstances outside of her control. The character can also be a victim of poor circumstances outside of her control, but it has to be primarily her personal choices that deem her a loser.

highly recommend keeping a small portrait of a historical figure who met a grisly end on your work desk. for perspective.

me: oh thomas cromwell, we're really in it now. every day i get emails.

the postcard of thomas cromwell i keep on my desk: i was on committees with the duke of norfolk. and they beheaded me.

me: yep. good point.

me: cromwell. cromwell this post has got too big and famous and people are starting to misunderstand me on it.

the postcard of thomas cromwell i keep on my desk: oh no! you achieved too much fame and status? and now people are misrepresenting you? should we strip your lands and title? have you been beheaded?

me: YES ALRIGHT FINE

Sharpay’s explicit proclamation’s of love for Troy but her implicit obsession with Gabriella was textbook lesbianism to me. of course in public she will obsess over this basket baller with no theatrical experience upon his first introduction into musical theatre. and of course she would resent this girl who has received implied if little at all interest in musical theatre despite her talent. on the surface, Gabriella and Troy both represent something she resents; natural talent before trained prowess. and in that line of thinking, why does she not give to Gabriella what she gives to Troy; teasing, provoking with no end goal? Sharpay is gay and at best bisexual imo

is anyone else also doing ultimately fine + dying of stress + it’s not that bad + if i don’t wake up tomorrow hotter and better at every hobby its fucking over for me

My favorite part of In the Loop is that they took a character all the fans loved to say was actually just an anti hero and not even really that bad, and then put him in a situation with actual stakes where his viciousness and single minded pursuit of keeping the party in power has an actual cost in human lives in close parallel to real life events.

You know, like politics tend to have.

Loved that movie, funny as shit, left me feeling hollow by the end

As Americans, those can be called chicken burgers or sandwiches to us, it just depends on the person. That might be a Midwest thing though

Chicken sandwiches sounds so wrong, that's a burger

sandwich is 2 separate pieces of sliced bread loaf. if its in a bun it's either a roll, bap, buttie or burger (this increases with heat as you go down the list)

i always forget mericans don't understand the bap -> buttie pipeline

The fact I literally do still think about Portia from the rendition of merchant of Venice I saw on the regular. They took what was considered a pretty strong female character by shakespearean standards and subverted her and it somehow made her an even more powerful lead. Like Portia in the original is powerful because shes able to defy everyone around her to get what she wants which is cool but this Portia is powerful because she DOESN'T get what she wants. She has the agency to make the wrong choices and then realise she's fucked up. I need to study her under a microscope I need to smoke a joint with her I need to set her husband on fire
