Just a collection of stuff that I like

Locking out victim's arm behind their back against the wall

Content: joint straining, fear, noncon touch, begging

  • That extra twist after a joint is locked up, forcing out a strangled gasp of pain
  • "Ah! Wait--wait--"
  • That freeze as victim realizes the position they're trapped in
  • Aggressor taking that moment to slide a hand into victim's front pocket, just intimate enough to be able to play it off later while making victim squirm right now.
  • "I'm not resisting." Victim pants, feeling their folded wrist twitch in aggressor's hand. "I'm not re--Im not resisting, whumper, please!"

whumpee who made the choice to self sacrifice and didn't think they'd survive.

caretaker furious that they'd do something so reckless, refusing to even speak to them while they tend their wounds.

i absolutely adore mentor caring for their apprentice. and then you reverse it <3

mentor’s wounded, and it’s bad. blood seeps through their numbing fingers, and yet they’re too weak to stitch the wound themself. their apprentice helps them out, and mentor guides them through each step. shaky hands and panic don’t quite help; “sorry, sorry!..” in between pained gasps. traumatise the little guy with mentor passing out midway, classical but so damn good

mentor’s been stressing for quite some time now. they’re always in a rush, tons of meetings and missions are always on their mind, they barely get to rest; perhaps they miss breakfast for a day or two, perhaps they spend the night awake. when they’re on the verge of collapsing, it’s their apprentice who finds them. sat down, with a mug of tea in their hands, they finally allow themself to relax - after all, that’s what they deserve

mentor goes out on a mission and takes their apprentice with them. they stay at a small cabin, or a tent, uncomfortably close. the night washes over them, and both go off to sleep. apprentice tries to get some rest - only to be woken up by whimpers. mentor wakes up gasping, shaking, with just tentative soft hands to comfort them. when their facade’s crumbled, they can’t hide it anymore. but do they have the courage to speak up?

team whump where the strongest of the group offers themself up to whumper. when they get thrown back to their team hours later, they curl up and ignore everyone's attempts to help, leaving the rest of the team to wonder what whumper did to them

Manhandling--especially done in silence.

Content: manhandling, humiliation, beating

  • Slammed into the top of a desk with their arm twisted behind them
  • Whumpee wincing and freezing under whumper's weight as they realize they're trapped; if they move any more their wrist is going to break
  • whumpee crushing their lips in their teeth to hold back cries of pain that they'd be punished for
  • Guards shoving in a manacled, stumbling whumpee before the king, kicking him to his knees and forcing him to bow so low his forehead hits the flagstones
  • Fist in the hair to yank whumpees head up
  • Or fingernails bruising into the cheeks for the same goal
  • Whumpee frustrated to rage that they aren't being allowed to just walk straight, instead they have to throw them into walls and slam them down into seats
  • Looking up with a livid glare at main whumper when they get there
  • Whumpee starting to speak, "wait, just--" gets yanked so hard the words catch before he staggers forward
  • "I can walk." Whumpee growls next time they come for him. Snarky guard--"well, you're to be dragged."
  • When the whumpers step away from whumpee, now tied up and gagged on the floor, panting through his nose
  • Humiliating punishments like whipping while whumpee is tied up like this, whumpee floundering awkwardly away with a muffled shriek at every strike
  • Holding whumpee's arms so whumper can punch them over and over in the stomach
  • A lineup of prisoners, but whumpee is the only one that gets thrown and kicked into position

More

Content: dehumanization

  • Forced to kneel and every time they try to raise their head, a guard shoves it down by the back of the neck
  • Defector (rebel) shoved into a wall by the collar so aggressor can whisper threats into their ear
  • Dog collar+leash pulling them back down into a bow as victim is being rebuked
  • Arms wrapped around victim's head as they're struggling, pulling their head back so whumper can see if they're lying
  • Victim pushed back into a wall with aggressor's forearm across their collarbones
  • Above victim starting to protest and aggressor puts their hand over their mouth hard enough to make their head thump against the concrete

Yes!

👉 Characters on their knees with their hands tied behind their back.

Also Yes!

👉 Characters on their knees with their hands up or behind their head.

thinking about a whumpee being made to lead their captors back to their team. whumpee's lying, of course; why the hell would they lead the enemy straight to their friends when they have an opportunity to throw them off the trail?

so they lead the enemy away. arms bound, maybe even on a chain or rope so they can't try to run for it, followed like a bloodhound. every step they take brings the enemy further from their friends, but it also brings them further from their friends. viscerally aware that the chances of rescue go down the further they go, and having no plans for what happens when the enemy catches on. just hoping they can find a moment to escape before then.

crisis occurs and the important team members are injured. leader needs stitches, brawn has a severe concussion, mechanic will bleed out if left unattended for five minutes and the fighter refuses to stay in bed for more than two. it's a terrible, awful night for medic, who runs between bedsides, ordering the youngest member of the team around, hands bloody and face pale, because they can't stop or one of their teammates--their friends--will die.

then, their medbay is finally calm. brawn has been cleared to rest with intermediate wakeups, fighter is on IV anesthetic, and the leader is... watching medic closely.

medic takes a breath. the first clear one in a while.

to the dismay of their bedridden patients, they collapse to the floor, unconscious.

Whumper chaining Whumpee up by their neck, the length of the chain feeding through a pulley attached to the ceiling. Their hands also shackled behind their back so they’re completely helpless.

Caretaker also in the room, tied to a chair. Whumper interrogates them, and every time they refuse to answer or Whumper thinks they’re lying, the chain gets pulled. Effectively strangling Whumpee. Caretaker begs and begs but Whumper wants information. And Whumpee through choked gasps, pleads with Caretaker not to say anything.

I think it’s often implied in the stories we write but I actually don’t think we consider the emotional and psychological implications of a character signing up for something knowing that they will likely die doing it.

It might not be for certain, but there are so many situations where people know that their efforts may well end in death. And it may well be a painful death, a slow death, a public execution, tortured alone in a dark cell, shot in the back of the head in a dark basement.

And then they go and do whatever it is they were going to do anyway and they do it regardless of the consequences. Because that’s what their cause means to them. And they’ve already accepted their fate going in. They just hope their life and death will be worth something.

We should have more carewhumpees.

More caretakers who neglect their own needs, pushing aside and downplaying their issues, trying to care for whumpee.

More caretakers who feel guilty for not having done enough, sooner.

More who need to fix it even when it isn't their business and they shouldn't. Who step in when nobody asked them to.

And maybe this need to do good, to be a hero, is to make up for something they did before, or something they failed to do. Maybe, no matter how much they help, they never feel like a good person.

They never feel worthy of their own love.

Even though they need it the most.

this is your sign to strangle your whumpees. Pin them against the wall, have rough hands wrapped around their neck, leave them with bruises that serve as a stark reminder of their pain. Give them long lasting issues as a result of what happened. Strangle your whumpees

When the carefree/comic relief character gets whumped

  • When they finally go quiet, so you know it's serious
  • When they tried to laugh through the pain, teeth bloody and eyes full of tears, but they try anyway
  • When someone insults them, telling them all the things they hate about them, thinking they'll just clap back with a clever insult as they always have. But for once, they don't say anything
  • When they laugh at first, trying to hide the pain, but it quickly turns into crying
  • When they've gone around the Team, making sure everyone is okay, that they got a smile out of everyone again. Only to collapse in their room, quiet, stoic. Nobody checks in on them.
  • "Are you okay?" No, no I'm really not. A smile. "Of course!"
  • When someone they love has been hurt, and they go quiet. "Whumpee?" A smile. "Don't worry, everything is okay." The dangerous glint in their eyes and the calmness in their voice makes it clear what they're about to do.
  • The silence in the Team after they're gone
  • Whumper who sees right through them. They insult Whumper, make a joke about it all, and Whumper just calmly observes them. "Ah, the joking to hide all the broken parts inside you. Has that been working well for you?"
  • When they're rescued and they just make a quick joke to make the situation more lighthearted, but Caretaker can see the pain in their eyes.
  • When they're rescued, but they're so injured and scared that they can't make a joke, making Caretaker realize how serious it is

Sure, Whumpee is beaten daily. He is hit and kicked to the floor by everyone he sees, but at least it is better than it was.

Sure, he is branded and beaten until unconscious. He is punished for wrongdoings that aren’t his own, but at least it is better than it was.

Before, he was loved and cherished. He was brought up to a level he never thought he could reach, and he never deserved it.

At least now, the outside matches the inside. At least now, others see what he sees in himself; a detestable creature with no hope of salvation.

He is beaten and he deserves it.

Yes, this is much better.

When Whumpee is lying on their back, hand covering one of their (bleeding) wounds as they stare up.

Too much pain, too much happened. They can't move. Physically, they could. But right now all they can do is just lie there and breathe.

The danger is gone, the fight is over.

They're still horribly injured, and might die. But for the first time in so long, they don't have to move.

So they don't.

A trope I love is when a magic healer/caretaker takes on the injury of the whumpee.

But what if they didn’t tell anybody that was how their power worked. What if everyone thought the damage was healed basically scot-free, aside from the caretaker being a bit exhausted.

The caretaker basically dragging themselves back to their room to bandage themselves up in privacy. All the scars marking their body, they see as a sign of their care. They know it’s destroying them. They know and they can’t stop themselves.
