grips u by the shoulders trust fall was named after the trust exercise where you physically fall backwards and trust someone to catch u. it is a metaphor for the trust that the reader has in shin to do things to her that previously traumatized her because she knows he will have sex with her in a way that will never hurt her, AND it is also about the trust in shin to see all her thoughts despite thinking that they are fundamentally ugly and will incite (negative) judgment, AND it is also about the literal falling in love that she does with him despite how much intimacy scares her after a lifetime of familial trauma. she trusts that she can fall [in love] for him and he'll catch her as she does... I'm so cooked for this guy

I do think the way that the dmc fandom hates things is uniquely extreme and it's actually gotten us good things (took us from anemic dmc2 gameplay to killer dmc3 gameplay, killed the reboot series and we got a return to the main franchise in dmc5, etc) at the expense of making the fandom intolerably annoying at times. I'm not certain how netflix will react to it but at the very least capcom pays attention so if we ever get a season 2 maybe things will be different AVHSKFJSKDD

gkdhskdjw I haven't watched any further yet but I think I will end up being in your situation 😔 I read some other opinions from fans and I get why people are disappointed with it. I think it's really hard to see a media that you love (and probably grew up with) have its story be fundamentally rewritten in a way that either contradicts or dismisses the source material thematically. like that's why the DmC reboot was so hated by the fandom as well ADLFHADJSKS, although at the very least this netflix version has done a better job of maintaining the spirit of dante hahaha

genuinely crying I've thought about it so many times how the reader's reunion with the other orphans would go, and this is definitely one scenario that I've considered. gaku just shows up to sakamoto's store unannounced, sakamoto and shin are expecting that he's there to attack them and are preparing for major bloodshed/destruction, but instead the two of you just start bickering in front of the store because he wants you to come home while you want to stay at the store. then you start crying because of the whole abandonment thing and gaku feels so bad that he goes to the counter and buys you your favourite snack from childhood, which makes you cry more 💀
