Monthly Progress Update: 3/20/2025

Hello fellow skeleton lovers!

Thank you for all the love & support regarding last months Valentines one-shots, and thank you to all the writers that were able to participate for the holiday. We have a few updates regarding the status of the demo re-release & main game.

Demo Re-Release Update Our coding progress is back on track thanks to a couple of team members assisting with the recovery process. Since our last update, we've reached halfway completion on our progress toward the re-release of our demo! The re-release will feature new & updated dialogue, new graphics, and new UI (which will also be used in the main game)!

Y'all deserve another sneak peek!~

Main Game Update Artwork for Sans' route (and a few others ;3) is nearing completion! Scripts are estimated to be finished around summertime, and several of them are in the final stages of editing! Last but not least, as previously stated there will also be an overhaul to the games UI, and you can look forward to a sneak peek of that during our demo re-release!

The day was surprisingly warm for late winter, but neither you or Blue minded. It meant that you could drive with the windows down, and while the wind didn’t allow for much conversation, the quiet was a comfortable kind that put you at ease. It was a good thing, too. Although they hadn’t said anything about it directly, Blue seemed pretty nervous when you picked them up for your photoshoot. Your gps chirped at you, indicating that you were getting close to your destination. 

“I know you want to keep this photoshoot as much of a surprise as possible, but do you mind at least telling me what I’m supposed to be looking for so I can park?” You asked, looking over at the skeleton just long enough to give him a reassuring smile. Blue blinked, startled out of his thoughts.

“Oh. Oh! Yeah, I… Probably should have thought of that.” He admitted, cheekbones a bit flushed. He sat up a little straighter in his seat, looking around. “We’re headed to the park- well, okay, not the park, cause we passed that a while ago, but there’s a bigger one that’s got a lot more… Stuff.”

 A cloudy, blustery day right in the middle of one of the coldest months of the year. A thick blanket of grey clouds covered the sky, and the ground was equally covered in a layer of thick, white snow. Were you not dressed properly for the occasion, you think that you would be downright gloomy sitting outside.

Luckily for you, you had just the right skeleton with you to eliminate said doom and gloom.

Papyrus was ecstatic to see the wintery weather outside and had invited you on an outing especially for the occasion. You had of course agreed, as you were happy to keep him company. You’d come to learn on the brief drive that Papyrus was especially fond of the colder seasons, namely winter, even if some of his cousins were more averse to it. From what he told you, he and Sans specifically used to live in a colder place in the Underground, so maybe that was part of why.

“Splendid, absolutely splendid!”

Poplar gazed at your latest piece, raising it above his head. You’d tried your best to work with the tiny watercolor canvas and brushes he had available for you, but you really thought you could have done better with this one. Especially compared to Poplar’s prowess.

“I don’t know,” you thought aloud, “I don’t think it’s really all that.”

“Nonsense! The way you rendered this flower is lovely! I love the shading you did on the petals.”

“Poplar…you and I both know I was just following a tutorial. I couldn’t do that without help.” Your tone was light as you spoke, though the creeping feeling of inadequacy was still present. Of course, Poplar wasn’t taking that from you.

“Hmm…what I know for certain is that you shouldn’t be nearly this hard on yourself. Everyone begins somewhere, after all! I think you’re off to a lovely start. Now, may I?” Poplar stood, gesturing to the wall. You gave him a shrug and a nod, trying to keep the smile on your face. Without another word, he positioned your piece just above his desk mirror.

“Well, I think that makes for a lovely centerpiece. Done by an even more lovely person.” Poplar smiled, looking at the wall.

If given the choice to go back in time to this morning and change the decisions that brought you here, you were sure you would have done so in a heartbeat. Your first bad decision this morning had been responding to a cryptic text message from Sans, confirming that you were not, in fact, busy. 

The second was when you checked the date and realized what day it was. February 14th. Of course, it had been silly of you to assume that Sans was planning something normal, like a nice lunch or a walk in the park. 

Oh, no. Normal had left your vocabulary entirely after meeting your neighbors. 

So, instead of flowers and chocolate or dinner and a movie, you had found yourself staring at Sans incredulously as the escape room worker handcuffed his wrist to the radiator that sat in the corner. The room had been decorated to look like a hotel suite, with the addition of notes and books scattered around on the walls and tables. 

You felt like you were in a true crime documentary. How romantic.

A fresh breeze brushed against your face and hair as you and Nox stepped into the sprawling city garden. It was two days before Valentine’s day, and the two of you had been ‘preparing’ for this three-day trip. Though preparing might be a stretch. Nox had planned a trip going around places he had been meaning to visit, along with a special event gala he had been wanting to experience. Of course, he asked you to come and you’d agreed. Nox had taken it upon himself to pack some of your things, even buying you a few new outfits for the occasion. In return, he let you choose his wardrobe, and thankfully, he seemed more amused than annoyed by your choices.

The garden was a massive maze of ivy-covered archways, sculpted hedges, and floral blooms in every color imaginable. It felt surreal, like something out of a dream. Maybe it was the atmosphere, or maybe it was the fact that the two of you were dressed just a touch too well for a simple stroll through a garden. You had to admit it was a bit corny but, it was just the way you liked it. 

Nox’s attention lingered on you, even as you became distracted by every turn of the path. Every so often, he stopped to comment on the meaning of certain flowers.

Your heart was pounding in your chest, keeping time to the music that played from your phone as you looked over your appearance one final time. Whatever it was that Rus had planned for the two of you, he’d been awfully careful about keeping it a surprise. In fact, the only thing he’d been willing to tell you was that you needed clothes you could move in, which was… vague. And, knowing your boyfriend, perhaps a bit ominous. Before your mind could wander too far down that trail of thought, there was a knock at your door. Despite the nerves, you smiled as you hurried to answer the door. 

“H-Heya, sweet pea.” There Rus was, standing at your door with a light dusting of purple already on his cheekbones. He held out a heart shaped box of chocolates and, fittingly, a sprig of small, pink flowers. Sweet peas.

The moon was high in the sky, the stars twinkling and bright. The cold night air granted a nice breeze through the neighborhood, sending little chills into open windows and to those who happened to be up at this ungodly hour. A pleasant night to be curled up in bed, sleeping away to begin the next day. 

You were one of the many tucked away under the covers and pleasantly asleep. You’d have stayed asleep if not for the subtle chiming of your phone, the screen flashing on and shining right in your face. It seemed you had forgotten to put it on do not disturb mode. So you were roused from your slumber as you blindly reached for your phone. You moved to turn it off, but just barely caught who the notification was from. 

It was from Stretch.

‘Lemme in ;3’

You squinted in confusion at the text and watched as a second one arrived.

‘Hi :D’ 

“Wha…” You grumbled sleepily.

“Hi.”

It was midday when you finally finished setting up your Valentine's Day gift for Ash. It was nothing special, but getting that ribbon to look perfect took much longer than you’d care to admit. You’d gotten him a cute mug shaped exactly like an empty flower pot and a trowel-shaped spoon to match, with cute print stating ‘Gardener of the Year’ on the front. Inside said mug was a package of herbs and leaves for Ash’s favorite type of tea. The mug was wrapped in simple yellow wrapping paper with daisies on it. And to top it off, the healthiest rose you could muster up in your backyard. It was a bit more pink than the classic red rose, but it was alive! You even added a little handwritten note saying ‘You’re my favorite bud’.

Not too shabby, if you say so yourself.

After you carefully placed the items in a basket to safely carry them to the skeleton family’s household, you noticed that you had a text message you’d missed. A part of you screamed in despair when you realized the pending texts were from Ash.

`heya. do ya wanna come over?`

`it’s a human holiday today, right?`

`we could talk while i work if you wanna`

`i dunno what humans do on “valentines day”’

You couldn’t believe you’d left him on delivered for a whole 12 minutes! How could you?!

‘ Hey! I’d love to hang out with you! You know that! <3’

‘ In fact, I actually have something to give you, so this works out great!’’

‘ If that offer is still up, I can be over in 2 minutes!’

You tidied up the basket a little while waiting for his reply. After a third try of trying to wind the ribbon around the handle to make it look prettier, you gave up.

You unlocked the glass door and stepped through, out of the bitter cold, watching to make sure the little ‘closed’ sign didn’t flip itself over as you shut and re-locked it behind you. Though some dim morning ambience made its way in through the big front window, it was still pretty gloomy with all the lights off. 

Honestly, though? You didn’t mind. 6:30am was a relatively late start for you. You used to get to your old bakery for 4 so you had all the time in the world to bake everything for the displays. A 6:30 start was a walk in the park.

First day nerves are normal. Just take a deep breath.

You put your coat on an antique wooden hanger by the door, and headed deeper into the still-closed cafe. It was a relatively quaint establishment, a medium sized room with about six tables of varying sizes. A nice oak counter, a glass case with room for sandwiches and pastries, a blackboard with coffee types lined up alongside chalked prices. A big pretty coffee machine with a shiny top. A sign on the wall behind the countertop declaring that they reserved the right to ‘remove anyone from the premises’. The only abnormal thing wasn’t even all that abnormal; most of the back wall was a continuous bookshelf, full of books of all different sizes and genres. The sort of thing that’d definitely give this spot enough charm to make it some people’s cafe of choice.

By all means, a perfectly normal, perfectly ordinary looking place.

... Nothing at all like its owners.
