Zoot Marimba’s Musical Zamboni

@zoot-marimba

Just another reviewer with too much time on his hands.

It took me a bit to finish, but here it is, Day One of Marching Band tryouts! Pip does his best to prepare for tryouts, Bradley does his best to get Scott and Kevin to get along, Scott does his best to undermine Kevin, and the Japanese do their best to make Americans never look at a strawberry the same way again!

One of the coolest parts about being a fan of fanfic is you can actually contact the author. And they will respond. And then you can message them nonstop until they allow you into their lives and then you’re becoming their beta reader and suddenly you know multiple authors of all types of fiction books and fanfic authors who will drag out their deleted fics for you to read at a moments notice.

Anyway. Comment on fics and message authors. It’s absolutely worth it.

Mini unserious ramble I do not like Pip's death in 201

No that doesn't mean I want him back. I just really hate how sudden and out of nowhere it was. No that doesn't mean I want him to have a sad, meaningful death. It's South Park, doi.

You can make Pip's death as wacky and absurd and out of left field as you want, I just wanted his comeback to die off to be more worthwhile, if that makes sense. Like, to last the entire episode.

Let him return to be teased and bullied, sure, but to also help move the plot along with the other kids, try and solve the conflict along the way. And when all else fails, THEN let it be like "oh well, let him die". Or you can just keep the last bit of the script and let Pip get crushed by Mecha Streisand.

Either bring him back for one final hurrah and a pitiful, sudden, crazy end or don't at all and let him stay in the background.

Who cares if you can't voice him anymore or if Butters replaced him, brah, just kill him off properly jeez

Even if we're going to kill Pip off in a bit of black comedy, this was a pretty weak attempt at doing so.

It really doesn't add anything at all to the episode, it could have been cut completely and the episode wouldn't function any differently. Pip himself could be cut entirely without affecting the story in any way, shape, or form. What's even the point of bringing him in even for the sake of killing him off?

Hate to say it, but it really does border on Manitee Gag. It honestly feels somewhat like a cutaway gag on Family Guy, and not even one of the better cutaway gags. It's just a pointless bit of filler that wastes time, time which could have been used much more effectively. And beyond, it's a joke that hinges entirely on however you felt about Pip as a character, and that's without accounting for how many viewers by 2010 had little to no familiarity with Pip on account of him having been LONG out of focus.

Believe it or not, I'm not totally opposed to the concept of killing Pip off. I'm not even opposed to doing so in a darkly humorous way, which is arguably more fitting for both the show and for Pip as a character.

Maybe have him as a messenger between factions (kids and townsfolk, celebrities, Scott and the gingers), and then you get to him delivering one final message before he's killed off.

Hell, have him inadvertently end up a suicide bomber, delivering one final message to the townsfolk before the timer starts going off.

"Please excuse the blood and guts..."

And then Pip blows up and dies.

Not the best, but certainly a step up from what we got. It would at least serve the story, it would at least have some substance as a joke, and it still keeps intact that teetering edge between comedy and tragedy that is Pip Pirrup.

Teenage Kenny Head Canons

Since it’s the start of Kenny week, it’s only right to do Kenny next. Here are my teenage Kenny head canons:

• He becomes even more independent, relying on himself rather than asking for help.

• He’s the type to act like nothing bothers him, but deep down, he carries a lot of pain.

• He’s still a flirt and loves teasing people, but he secretly wonders if anyone actually takes him seriously.

• He develops a darker sense of humor as a coping mechanism.

• He still enjoys partying, but sometimes he just drinks alone to forget about his problems.

• He has a reckless streak, fighting, sneaking into places, and pulling crazy stunts just for the thrill.

• He acts like he doesn’t care about school, but he’s actually really smart and only struggles because he doesn’t put in the effort.

• He hates when people pity him and will immediately change the subject if someone tries to bring up his home life.

• He’s still close with Stan and Kyle but sometimes feels like an outsider in their dynamic.

• He and Kyle don’t always see eye to eye, but Kenny respects him, even if he teases him a lot.

• He still hangs out with Cartman but doesn’t take him seriously, he sees right through his bullshit.

• He’s really protective of Karen and would do anything to make sure she’s safe and happy.

• He’s the friend people go to when they need advice, even if his advice is a little unconventional.

• He has flings but struggles with real relationships because he doesn’t think he deserves anything serious.

• He jokes about dying all the time, but deep down, he wonders why he keeps coming back.

• He has moments where he feels completely numb, like nothing matters.

• He secretly fears that he’ll never escape his family’s cycle of poverty and addiction.

• He hates seeing his mom struggle and sometimes skips meals so Karen can eat instead.

• He has a habit of disappearing when he’s feeling overwhelmed, sometimes going off alone for hours or days.

• He knows how to suppress emotions better than anyone, but sometimes it all catches up to him.

• He struggles with self-worth, feeling like no one would truly miss him if he were gone.

• He’s insanely good at fixing things, from cars to electronics, since he had to learn how to be resourceful.

• He gets into street fights sometimes, not because he enjoys hurting people, but because he likes feeling something.

• He still watches and reads a ton of hentai but also has a genuine appreciation for anime in general.

• He’s actually a great cook because he had to learn how to make meals for Karen.

• He loves music and always has headphones in. He listens to grunge, punk, and 90s rap.

• He gets into tattoo culture and dreams of getting covered in tattoos once he has enough money.

• He’s surprisingly artistic and occasionally draws, though he doesn’t share his work with anyone.

Would should I do next? Cartman or Butters?

Now Chapter 24 is up! Here we are in South Period Astronomy as everybody builds their own model galaxies, Kevin tries figuring out the beef between him and Scotty, Heidi tries figuring out just what the hell's going on between her two best friends, and Gregory continues to prove that simpin' ain't easy.
