    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for the comment and lists on Claire Trevor. Many of her movies did not make our table….but I figured…the chances of me finding those early Fox movie box office grosses was pretty slim Cool trivia about some of movies having connections over 80 years. Heck even her latest movie…Kiss Me Goodbye is almost 40 years old. I like Kiss Me Goodbye…good roles for Jeff Bridges and James Caan. Not sure I realized the Stagecoach lady was the lady in that one…at least until I did this page.

Good to see John Wayne as her most frequent co-star in the first list….at least in a tie. A decent total with the second list. Three movies with Spencer Tracy….I tried very hard to find box office on The Mad Game…..but I was unsuccessful. Bridges and Field are her only living connections when looking at her Oscar winning co-stars. Good stuff as always.

  2. I have been waiting for this page for a long time. I love Claire Trevor and am a big fan of film noir.

I have seen 19 Claire Trevor movies, including 9 of the top 10 and 12 of the top 15.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Stagecoach.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is The Babe Ruth Story.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is Best of the Badmen.

    Favourite Claire Trevor Movies;

    Key Largo
    Murder My Sweet
    Dead End
    Stagecoach
    Honky Tonk
    Raw Deal
    Man Without a Star
    How to Murder Your Wife
    Johnny Angel
    The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse
    The Velvet Touch
    The Desperadoes
    Texas

Other Claire Trevor Movies I Have Seen:

    The High and the Mighty
    Two Weeks in Another Town
    Born to Kill
    Crack-Up
    Hard, Fast and Beautiful
    Best of the Badmen

    1. Hey Flora…..glad you liked this Claire Trevor page. She was an Oscar winner and a Joel subject….so this page actually works on getting both of those lists completed. Tally count. Flora 19, Steve 14 and me 7. That is about the normal breakdown for classic thespians. I have seen 4 of your favorites….the first four you mentioned….all good movies. Surprised The High and the Mighty did not make your favorites list. 13 of her movies made your favorites list….that is pretty close to the total Joel listed as his 4 star movies…though I guess 19 is not too close to 13. Good stuff as always.

  3. I’ve seen 14 Claire Trevor films that I know of, might be more. Favorites are – Stagecoach, Dante’s Inferno, How to Murder Your Wife, Dead End, The High and the Mighty, Murder My Sweet, Man Without a Star and Key Largo.

Lots of top classics here. Key Largo tops them all on the critics chart. I would pick Stagecoach as my no.1 Claire Trevor film, she was prettier in that than any of her later films and it’s one of the all time great westerns. It’s no.1 on the UMR score chart.

The High and the Mighty was a huge hit and was basically the very first “Airport” film.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve…..thanks for the thoughts on Claire Trevor. Your tally of 14 doubles my total of 7. Of your favorites I have seen 5 of them…so that represents almost my entire total. I think Stagecoach is a better movie than Key Largo….but her role in Key Largo is better than her role in Stagecoach…but both are classic movies. The High And The Mighty was a monster….hit and almost 20 years before Airport. The theme song of that movie was whistled at John Wayne’s funeral. Good stuff….thanks for the kind words.

  4. WH and I have just discussed how each half of a Hollywood screen duo of the past is potentially associated with the other half today. Whilst nowadays I admittedly know far more about movies than [oh, say Bruce Cogerson or his mentor] between my ages of 9-13 in the early fifties I had obviously seen relatively few films,

Accordingly in my formative years as a movie buff I regarded Claire and The Duke as a screen team [like Rock and my Doris later] because among the films that I actually HAD seen by 1954, were Claire Trevor/John Wayne in Stagecoach; Claire Trevor/John Wayne in Dark Command; and John Wayne/Claire Trevor in High and the Mighty. [It will be noted that there, un-Cogerson-like, I adhere strictly to the official billing even though The Duke is one of my greatest idols! As Frankie sang I do it “My Way”]

Other Trevor faves of mine are: Stranger Wore a Gun, Best of the Badmen, Key Largo, Man without a Star, and the probably little known Stop You’re Killing Me! The Capetown Affair [which is also listed above is a remake of my Richard’s 1953 minor classic Pickup on South Street with Claire in the Thelma Ritter role, James Brolin in Widmark’s part and the young Jackie Bisset as the ‘sex kitten’ played by Jean Peters back in 1953. Claire gets top billing though in the 1967 remake whereas Thelma was 3rd billed in Richard’s film, with Widmark himself going top – I can live with all of that!

Claire never achieved the legendary status of a Stanwyck or a Turner but nevertheless Claire was in my opinion a big part of the early talkies decades – one of the indispensable sexy female stalwarts of those years so that she was in fact nicknamed Queen of the Film Noir; therefore Cogerson especially, with its unparalleled coverage of Old Hollywood , would I feel always have been incomplete without a Trevor page. In short definitely “Voted Up!” – though this site already has a Queen of course; in fact two of them if W o C is added to that ‘thin’ Queen whom Cogerson fattened up with inflated grosses!

    1. Hey Bob…..I agree she and John Wayne were a screen team. I think Wayne was very supportive of her when the wheels of power changed. Trevor had the “juice” when they made Stagecoach….but Wayne had the “juice” for the movies after that. Seems like they got along very well regardless of who was the power one. Other than Key Largo…I have not seen any of your “other” favorites….I will have to check them out. I did not see that he was nicknamed The Queen of the Film Noir…..that is good trivia. Glad to see Loy is still under your skin…brings a smile to the face….lol. Good stuff as always.

      1. “I’ve got you under my skin
I’ve got you deep in the heart of me
So deep in my heart that you’re really a part of me
I’ve got you under my skin” – Cole Porter.

Ah the Svengali-like influence of Cogerson!

  5. “Claire Trevor was an excellent actress who unfortunately got type-cast into playing the gun moll or dance hall floozy in countless B-movies. The list of films she appeared in was a fairly dismal affair overall, but Claire Trevor herself never gave a bad performance.” -1983

    1. Getting Joel’s thoughts on the website is always a good thing…at least in my mind. Only one of Joel’s 4 star Trevor movies is not on the page. The Mad Game starring Spencer Tracy has no box office information…so it did not make the table.
