UMR Review of The Swimmer

Why I watched this one? I had heard about this movie for years. Happily, I finally got to watch this one.

What is this one about? A man (Burt Lancaster) spends a summer day swimming as many pools as he can all over a quiet suburban town.

My thoughts on this one? Before my thoughts, one should know that Lancaster thought this was one of his best performances and one of his favorite movies. He described the movie as Death of the Salesman in swimming trunks. Ok enough from Burt.

As for me, I loved this movie. Burt is freaking amazing in this one. I think he is much better here than he was in his Oscar winning role in Elmer Gantry. Burt fans will love this movie and those not familiar with him will want to do a deeper dive after seeing this one. I would recommend those that have not seen The Swimmer, to just watch the movie without doing any research on the movie. Go in cold and watch the movie unfold. Final thought: A cult classic that deserves its title.
