The music industry often makes you wonder why some of the greats have yet to work together, such as Beyoncé and Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Kendrick Lamar, and the list goes on. This week, another epic musical pairing came up, leading Kid Cudi to address why he’s never worked with J. Cole.
On Wednesday (Sept. 18), Mr. Rager responded to a fan on X who suggested a collaboration between him and the “Love Yourz” rapper, adding that it would be “the best collab of all time.”
In response, Cudi wrote, “I had a session w Cole for [Cudi’s 2013 album] Indicud [but] he couldnt write to the beat I produced. It was a bummer, and I always wanted to do something so I reached out for [his 2024 album] INSANO, no response. So there’s that.” However, Cudi assured another fan, “Cole dope I fux w him.”
In another response to a fan about the desired collab, he further explained, “Yeah for sure I don’t think Cole dislikes me I think he just didn’t connect w what I sent him. One day hopefully it happens.”
Aside from fans wanting a possible song from the two rappers, Cudi has been meeting milestones in his music career.
On Friday (Sept. 13), the Entergalactic impresario celebrated his 2009 debut LP Man on the Moon: The End of Day becoming the first 2000’s rap album to helm two diamond singles. Cudi’s standout hits, “Day ‘N’ Nite (Nightmare)” and “Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare),” have catapulted the album into becoming one of the most successful rap albums of its time.
“WHAT!!!! Ok today is starting off f**kin INSANE. MOTM First 2000’s hip hop album to get multiple Diamond singles!!! I CANT BELIEVE THIS [exploding head emojis],” he celebrated on X. “All the albums that came out in the 2000s, all the dope sh*t I listened to in school and college and my come [up] in NY, MOTM came out swinging and makin history. Man, Im so happy right now I cant really explain. I dont get many ‘first’ accolades.”
He continued, “One word helps this all make sense to me: Chosen. This was my destiny. I was meant to be here and make change, and we still here doing just that. To my fans I love u so so much beyond what you may think. Forever and ever. Ill always ride for you. Thank You from the bottom of my heart [praying hands emoji] [burning heart emojis].”
