Trail blazes

[edit]

I have widened this so that it can include symbols used for trail blazing (Q1042490). This is useful for Template:Infobox hiking trail (Q13362630). Thierry Caro (talk) 23:18, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can this be used for railways/metros too?

[edit]

AFAIK, it's also likely that a lot of railway/metro lines can have their corresponding icons/markers, e.g. File:JR JA line symbol.svg for Saikyō Line (Q1372061), File:Berlin_U2.svg for U2 (Q99697), etc. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 09:05, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Liuxinyu970226: It doesn't matter for me, but why not to use logo image (P154)?--Sascha GPD (talk) 10:46, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like many Japanese and UK motorways are having overlapped road signs, and maintaining exception to constraint (P2303) qualifier values of this restriction is really more and more hard, this only wastes my RAM when editing, so instead of adding a large dozens of P2303, should we just remove this restriction now? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:00, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, yes, yes. The US has hundreds of exceptions like these, and it's clear that this constraint makes no sense here. -happy5214 13:06, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, this constraint does make a lot of sense, I would remove it too. Pinging the top 10 uer of this property: @Mahir256, Gz260, An Errant Knight, Liuxinyu970226, Puclik1: @3453955E08!, Apalsola, Wikidatist, Bergenga, Nvrandow:. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 13:40, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If this editor understands correctly, this issue is in particularly in reference to the traffic signs (shields) for highways and the matter of insisting that each Wikidata item (for roads) have a unique traffic sign (shield), even though they are parts of the same road using the same traffic sign (shield). There are also a growing number of items (for roads) that would still use the same sign (shield), even though the only relation between the roads is that they are of the same type (i.e., county road) and the same number.
If this is correct, this editor fully supports removing the constraint in this situation. An Errant Knight (talk) 18:34, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@An Errant Knight: yes, this editor understood correctly .
For a clear example (and a bit extreme one), the file File:Route départementale française 1.svg is used - right now - on:
All are called "route départementale 1" ("departmental road 1") since there is a "road 1" in each French department (and actually, a lot of data are missing, there is ~100 department in France and all have a road number 1 same for road number 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.) and all have the exact same sign.
Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 13:37, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I also support the removal of this constraint. It is apparent that it is not based on a real-world scenario. It probably applies in some countries, but as long as it doesn't apply everywhere, it shouldn't be there. That mile-long list of exceptions could in itself be a proof that the constraint is failed.
