Cycling 2018

[edit]

Hi Gan. For this new year, we now have a page to list the races we create items and articles : Wikidata:WikiProject Cycling/2018 races. It should be more easy for you to add statements or translations. Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick (talk) 19:57, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Races without instance of (P31)

[edit]

I see that you have added several races without specifying any instance of (P31). Could you please in the future add a suitable type? Thanks. Laboramus (talk) 23:01, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick

Hi. I don't understand russian, but if it is the question, there is always one and only one way to fill Wikidata for the reason datas are reused in different Wikipedias with an algorithm. On Module:Cycling race we have documentation for stages : Wikidata:WikiProject Cycling/Documentation/stageinfobox. It is written in French, but it is translatable and items quoted have values in Russian. For the item of a stage, instance of (P31) is the type of the stage, if we don't know the type, we write just round (Q18131152) (with the idea that a day, with a partnership, we could have access to old race book). Here, part of (P361) is the edition 1980 of the race. In case of problem, you can contact me. Try a second time if I don't respond, it can be because I don't see the notification. And : happy new year. Take pleasure when you contribute it is the most important. Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick (talk) 19:03, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I know that French users sometimes use gadgets to transfer datas. On my side, I do all by hand except the use of nameGuzzler to add names in latin languages. I have the time because we are more numerous. Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick (talk) 10:08, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

--Wolverène (talk) 20:47, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

— GAN (talk) 21:14, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Johan Svensson

[edit]

There is no article in any Wikipedia on a cyclist named Johan Svensson; whether this person is mentioned on some website or not, they are non-notable, and it is problematic to include them. If you disagree, please create a Wikipedia article on the person - the link as it stands only causes errors in Wikipedia. BD2412 (talk) 13:41, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have written him up, see w:Johan Svensson (cyclist). That particular problem seems to have been solved.
However, the problem caused by José Varela in Q28057330 (who I wrote up five hours ago as w:José Varela (cyclist)) has not.
"On the contrary, these modules create a lot of good conveniences for the Vicki language sections in which there are few authors who love cycling, allowing them to jointly create articles together with different lists and tables for articles about races and teams in different languages."
Oh no they don't! Not if they create bad links for Wikipedia readers and near-insoluble problems for Wikipedia editors, they don't. Are you familiar with the English expression, "You're having a laugh"? It is not a compliment.
I will be following José Varela's progress in the Grand Tours, if he ever gets to ride in one. Narky Blert (talk) 00:21, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Andy Schleck

[edit]

Please, please stop changing picture preferences, otherwise this ugly portrait is shown in infoboxes, also its mor intresting to show a sportsman in action, than to have an ugly portait without colours and contrast. --Les Meloures (talk) 11:26, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Les Meloures: On the photogoraphy "in motion" the image of a person's face is less informative. As a result, the card (infobox) which should give the basic information about the person will give it in a smaller volume as it is impossible to clearly represent the person described in the article in the photo. To do this, you will need to additionally place a second photo, and in articles with a small amount of text this will not look very good. Most photos for the infobox just represent a more distinct image of a person by which it can be recognized. I can offer you two such images: foto-1, foto-1 and foto-2. — GAN (talk) 13:02, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Its not only the sportsman face that is important, but the whole shape.
But after 12 years on Wiki I'am tired of such discussions and I will put it manually in the article's box and if other want to have this ugly portait of Andy so they can do. Best regards --Les Meloures (talk) 13:28, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey GAN, I just found Q36689657 which was created by you. What’s the purpose? Did you mean to create a property instead of an item? Cheers, —MisterSynergy (talk) 17:48, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like there is already mountains classification (P4320). Is that what you wanted to have? —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:01, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bicycle race

[edit]

@Repf72: All dates from http://www.cyclingarchives.com/ I suggest that you first remove all point in time (P585) races, and then add it again. Not to delete in some races only a year without a date.

@Repf72: Posted by "Q" and date for Gent–Wevelgem. Some years have two pages each. — GAN (talk) 18:33, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@GAN: Yes. I delete dates to add new ones, but in some reces forgot it, but are fixed. With supplied dates. It will be fast. Repf72 (talk) 18:47, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For "Gent–Wevelgem" could you check duplicated items and merge if convenient or simple unlink extra elements to eliminate duplicated items? Repf72 (talk) 03:41, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Repf72: I cleaned the women and the young. There you need about 40 races to unite (until 1979). The best way is to copy the list to Excel and remove the unnecessary lines there.— GAN (talk) 10:08, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not merged or not unlinked elements will continuing adding noise to queries. I merged 4 elements for E3 Harelbeke, before datafill.Repf72 (talk) 13:35, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 71 editions datafiled, but current edition is 73, do you have some link about explication of missed editions? Repf72 (talk) 15:32, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Repf72: I combined all the paired pages of "Gent–Wevelgem". Omlup was not conducted in 1960, 1986, and 2004. Perhaps because of this failure in the numbering. — GAN (talk) 15:48, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_Het_Volk_2007

in text - №63
in the card - №62
in order - №60

http://www.cyclingarchives.com/wedstrijdfiche.php?wedstrijdid=347 The text in the frame at the top is probably helpful. I read and write with the help of an interpreter. :)

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad: 3 skipping points for 2 editions. Well I change numbering skipping just 1986 and 2004, but it is a pendient issue to reference the numbering. Repf72 (talk) 16:32, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

If you want to re-order P527 (as you did at Q510854) you can send before an quick statements deleting all P527 elements and then you can send again programming.

To delete just use "-" before Qxxxx.

Delete script

-QxxxRace P527 QxxxEdition
-QxxxRace P527 QxxxEdition
-QxxxRace P527 QxxxEdition

Re add script

Cyclist creation

[edit]

Excellent you are using quick statements. Please be aware that you should use date of birth (P569) to datafill "date of birth" instead of point in time (P585) as you did for Danny Neskens (Q57780350) and Roger Verheyden (Q57780349).

It is demanding but it is necessary check if rider name exist with some name variation before create it. For example you create Karel De Baere (Q57416498) but exits Karel De Baere (Q3193060) and also 2018 Grand Prix de Plumelec-Morbihan (Q57780342), but there is Jean Patou (Q16066922) (some palmares uses Jules and some Jean). To avoid duplications I always verify checking palmares in other wikis (sometimes I catch name with son little variation), I also check in internet and finally I check palmares at Cycling Archives or Procyclingstats fo find name variations and check if they exist at Wikidata. URL's

[edit]

Hi! What's a point with adding links like this? This info is already sourced with PCS raceid and there's no point in adding another source for such easily verifible info. Moreover adding these URL's makes a terrible effect on other Wiki's using module:cycling (check for example how pl:Dookoła Rumunii looks now after adding that one... 99kerob (talk) 13:26, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Q62124054

[edit]

Hi! As I can see you can write in cyryllic. Could you identify a cyclist who was second in 1986 Okolo Slovenska? He is added as Gennadij Alexasis but I guess that it isn't a correct version as I couldn't find anyone who was named like this - probably his surname looked a little different, maybe you can find him? 99kerob (talk) 14:48, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

https://www.okoloslovenska.com/en/news/who-will-join-the-famous-winners-in-the-58-year-old-history-of-the-race - There is a file with winners in the page code, but it is not displayed for me.
https://firstcycling.com/race.php?r=380 - All winners except this one

GAN (talk) 14:32, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the answer. As I am slowly adding UCI ProSeries races to pl.wiki and also updating a list of winners using module:cycling I have a question about this edition. Why you added Muraglia as a winner? Both memoire-du-cyclisme and cycling archives states that he was disqualified and a first place was left empty. 99kerob (talk) 18:37, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think that this way of displaying disqualified cyclist isn't right as it suggest readers that he won it "legally" as any other cyclist. Wouldn't it better to mark that place as declared deserted (as it is done for example for Tour de France editions won by Lance Armstrong - for example Tour de France 2005)? Leaving it as it is without any addition is really confusing. I would even with suggest adding to Muraglia result a end cause - disqualification which will make it even more clear but I see that this way of displaying results isn't used at Wikidata. 99kerob (talk) 06:37, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • @99kerob: In the wikidata, the winner now says "final result" - "disqualified". I also added a link to the source.
https://firstcycling.com/race.php?r=129&y=2007&l=1 - winner Muralia, but with an asterisk
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Okd9uAi2ZU28gzCJgAn8kwgID769eSsK/view - 2020 Roadbook Officials (page 10), Muralia Winner Without Notes
https://cqranking.com/men/asp/gen/race_history.asp?raceid=4966 - winner of Vorganov

Here it is more likely to change the module so that it would be possible to display the disqualified strikethrough or instead of them the text "is missing".

element "P2561- nazwa" you can indicate the old race names with years or a shorter name instead of a long one. For example, instead of the World Championship in road cycling - the group race for men is simply “World Championship - PP.” All these names will be displayed in the calendar and the list of team victories. Cycling race/stagetitle

[edit]

Hi. Why don't you use "stagetitle" function at RU Wiki? It allow to show you better information for stages. Can I help to program it and implement it for Giro 2020? Repf72 (talk) 23:19, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Repf72: Hey. I know about this pattern. But I'm not planning to put it on yet. I support the module and write about races on my own - so far it's a little more convenient without it. When I get to the races, I'll watch it. I am now making seasons of continental tours and new templates for them. You can see them in my drafts HERE and HERE. Counter question - do you use "stageclassification"? Which of the active users of the module in the LUA is well versed besides the Psemdel? — GAN (talk) 22:20, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@GAN: Hi. Yes, we use a lot "stageclassification" In fact our combo to have documented stages uses stagetitle + stageclassification + generalclasification as you can see for example here. I always talk to Psemdel for bugs and improvements. Repf72 (talk) 00:20, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

UCI America Tour

[edit]

Hi! I know that this edition is right but please don't delete P585 with just a year: I creates artciles about all UCI Continental Circuits using Template:Cycling race/listofwinners and without that parameter outcome at articles is terrible (it for example show's two winners for 2005 and none for 2014 etc.). 99kerob (talk) 19:12, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I am not Ok with you about Q83815024 and your modification about Property:P1346. There was never a winner, because the race was called off. So you can't write that Ludo29 (talk) 15:54, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Ludo29: At the moment, this parameter is responsible for displaying text in at least two more templates based on the module (links for example):
1 tournament calendar - https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/UCI_World_Tour_f%C3%A9minin_2020
2 list of all races - https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Women%27s_Tour

Hi Gan, I suppose you created the account on the website? I activated it (gmail blocked my email sending...). Can you just confirm that it is you, so I grant you more rights? Psemdel (talk) 19:00, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Psemdel: Yes. :) Can I change the password later? If necessary, I can also specify gmail. — GAN (talk) 19:17, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is not your fault, I need to change the mail server obviously, Gmail turns on everytime alone the security settings on and then no more activation email. Nevermind, I do it manually. To change the pass, just go in settings. Psemdel (talk) 19:26, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Netherlands

[edit]

Hi! Q55 is just a part of Q29999 (like for example England is a part of UK), second one is represented in all sports events not the first one and should be linked at all national teams. Q55 causes also an error via module at pl.wiki as we don't have separate article about that one thing and it just blows up whole startlist. 99kerob (talk) 21:15, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @99kerob: The Kingdom of the Netherlands also includes Aruba and Curacau. And they have their own national teams and national championships in cycling. Unlike Great Britain, which is represented by a single country in cycling. 19th place is Aruba Or see Marc de Maar - he played for Curacao first, and then for the Netherlands.
The problem of not displaying the Netherlands (not the Kingdom) in pl-wiki can be solved through redirection. Create a redirect on your pl-wiki to your article about the Kingdom of the Netherlands. I'll do the rest. — GAN (talk) 21:49, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Redirection isn't a solution as these two are not the same thing - give me a few days about that subject and don't correct linking on Wikidata until I will let you know (otherwise some start lists (like for example here) will be broken. I will probably write a short article but I need time to do that. 99kerob (talk) 18:13, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I actually always wondered what we should use... In French the description for both items don't really help understanding to which one the national team is related. For Great-Britain, no comment, the national team is clearly noted as Great-Britain, but how to fill P17... Half of the time, United-Kingdom is displayed :( . We correct, but some bots keep on "correcting" back. Taiwan was also always a difficult one, that why we introduced P1532. Psemdel (talk) 08:55, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bycicle models

[edit]

Hello GAN,

do you have a list with Bycicle models. I think it were interesting if the bycicles that were used in races exist as items in Wikidata. I can help you by adding them if you tell me a source for that. --Hogü-456 (talk) 19:37, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

P1813

[edit]

Hi! Using P1813 at rider's items causes a problem with module - in case of Q24719068 "Марк Падун" was displayed on all Wikis (not only Russian and Ukrainian as it should be) instead of "Mark Padun". 99kerob (talk) 10:07, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@99kerob: I restored the Russian version, it does not affect the display (checked). Ukrainian influenced. Most likely you need to add the value uk = true to "local slavicWikis = {mk = true, ru = true}"GAN (talk) 10:38, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2020 / 2021

[edit]

Hi! UCI season is not a calendar year (January-December) - basic rule is that a new season starts a day after last World Tour race but for both 2020 and 2021 there were some small extensions to it due to COVID (for example 2021 season ends on 31st of October and all races held in November and December are already a part of 2022 season). I know that is weird but UCI like such weird rules ;). 99kerob (talk) 17:07, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment

[edit]

Dear GAN,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Tour de France 1985 (Q278715)

[edit]

Cordialement.
No young rider classification in 1985, but a best rookie classification--Toïlev (talk) 09:03, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Toïlev: I read and write through google translate, so you can write in any language.

1 - Breaks the list of winners by year. And the TOUR takes it into account in the general list of youth classification page 125 {{#invoke:Cycling race|listofwinnerscustom|Q33881|0|0|0||0|1|1|0|1}} - copy to draft in fr-wiki
2 - And why such close attention only in 1985? After all, the Neophytes instead of the Young were from 1983 to 1986. And the TOUR takes it into account in the general list of youth classification. And until 1983, judging by the regulations, it was also not quite youthful.
GAN (talk) 10:44, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

-- Rz98 (talk) 22:41, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Rz98: Here you also need to take into account the display of this nomination in the race card and its interaction with other templates of this module. {{#invoke:Cycling race|infobox|Q278715}}GAN (talk) 22:55, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Singapore

[edit]

Dear GAN,

It would seem that there is a discrepancy between the UCI code of cycling team (P1998) that we use for Singapore national cycling team (Q99646686) and actual UCI usage. We use SGP but UCI actually uses SIN (example). It seems that the IOC code changed in 2017 from SIN to SGP, and Wikidata followed suite but UCI didn't (at least not yet). Should this be changed? -- Rz98 (talk) 11:49, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Santic-Wibatech

[edit]

Leopard TOGT Pro Racing is a new Continental Team, different from Leopard Pro Cycling, even if it looks different on procyclingstats. Just like that, team Santic-Wibatech is different than Wibatech Merxx. A few people and a sponsor came from the old team, but it is a new team! You can have a look at the [Team Homepage]: "Das Team Santic Wibatech ist ein neues, deutsches Kontinental Team ..." (Team Santic Wibatech is a new German Continental Team ...) You can also have al look here [2]], an article about the end of Wibatech Merxx.--Kawona67 (talk) 07:57, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2023 Gent–Wevelgem

[edit]

Hi! Why you did this revert? The 2023 edition of Gent-Wevelgem can't be "subclass of" of "1.UWT", because "subclass of" means that all instances of this item are instances of that item, but instances of 2023 Gent–Wevelgem cannot exist! Thank you BohemianRhapsody (talk) 08:53, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your answer. I can't find in the project you linked specific requirements for how to fill the properties, so which of my edits are correct for you and which are a problem for the Module?
These were my edits:
  1. setting "instance of" season (Q27020041)
  2. setting "sports season of league or competition" Gent–Wevelgem (Q498661)
  3. removing "subclass of" 1.UWT (Q22231106)
  4. removing "instance of" Gent–Wevelgem (Q498661)
I think that:
  1. is correct because "2023 GW" is one single edition of the recurring "GW" (maybe, if you think is more correct, we can change from season (Q27020041) to recurring sporting event edition (Q114609228));
  2. is consequent to 1.
  3. is what I was explaining above so it was an error (because "subclass of" means that all instances of this item are instances of that item);
  4. is the one that probably I don't mind if you need it and don't want to remove it.
So only 3. is the problem for the Module? Can I restore the other edits (1., 2. and 4.)?
For the column "Class", anyway, I think the best property to use would be "competition class" competition class (P2094). So it would be correct to say that "2023 GW" has "competition class" "1.UWT", while it's not correct to say, as is now, that "2023 GW" is "subclass of" "1.UWT". What do you think about that? Obviously, if we need to change the Module, we will ask for an automatic edit on all the relevant items. --BohemianRhapsody (talk) 13:07, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The same reasoning apply for this revert on Gent–Wevelgem (Q498661): GW is not a single-day road race (Q2912397), because it is a recurring event that consists of different single single-day road race (Q2912397). --BohemianRhapsody (talk) 08:28, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"Type" in the template it is "P31"
- E3 = "Type" Recurring sports event. For this race, the parameters for the module have not yet been filled in
- GW = "Type" course d'un jour (single-day road race)

Where are these cards? I think that instance of (P31) is not the correct property for mapping "type" (note that P31 can be used potentially with more than one value), so I think we should discuss on which property can be the best one. --BohemianRhapsody (talk) 13:07, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • @BohemianRhapsody: In this format, at least all races were made in the years of the Men's World Tour, Women's Cup, Women's World Tour. Plus more races by years of continental tours. This is not one hundred races.
  • In national championship races, the system has a number of offshoots. See picture at the very bottom of Wikidata:WikiProject Cycling/Documentation/victories
  • Here on Wikidata, not all templates work in full force. They need to be looked up directly on Wikipedia. For example the above template "victories" fr:Modèle:Cycling race/victories
- "P31" with the main element of the race in it in the "victories" template allows you to hyperlink to the main article about the race if there is no article about the race for the year.
- "P2094" is now used to indicate that this race is women's

Are you ready to update the module for the new version? Update module in language-wiki that uses it? And update all these races under the new format? What is the first goal?

Hi, don't think about the number of edits that we'll need to fix, if we have to do it, we can use QuickStatements or we can do them in different waves, we can address that problem.
My goal is to correctly using Wikidata properties and to inserting all the relevant information: if a Module is wrongly using Wikidata properties is a problem for the Module, not for Wikidata. I don't get your point: where are that cards shown? (in some local wiki? in which pages?) Do you think that I should not inserting on 2020 EuroEyes Cyclassics (Q66739327) the info that it was a canceled sports event due to the COVID-19 pandemic (Q88903067)?
Moreover: Can I revert edit 1., 2. and 4. (see above) that doesn't affect your Module?

[edit]

Hi, Why did you reverted this? And 1945 Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne (Q57558269) this edition starts with 0. This makes no sense... RVA2869 (talk) 08:48, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- You put "21" in 1965. But why then left "21" in 1966? Two races under the same number? Now all "KBK" races are numbered from "0".
- The debut race took place in 1945. Agree. And if "1" is 1945, then in 2023 it should be "76". In this case, you need to correct the numbers for ALL races.
- But
- "60" was in 2007 60th Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne - 1.1 Belgium, March 4, 2007
- There was no race in 2013

- "74" was in 2022 Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) a remporté au sprint, ce dimanche, la 74e édition
- "75" was in 2023 Preview: 2023 Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne the 75th edition and Tiesj Benoot is the winner of the 75th edition of Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne).
- In such a case, the two races must have the same race number. What are these races? Or am I wrong with the numbering? — GAN (talk) 12:33, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

– Pacha Tchernof (talk) 20:13, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

— GAN (talk) 20:57, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
— Pacha Tchernof (talk) 17:32, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
— GAN (talk) 02:12, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Carn (talk) 06:07, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Interfase (talk) 16:28, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

— GAN (talk) 17:14, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
--Interfase (talk) 19:10, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lotto-Dstny

[edit]

Hello @Gan:, Team Lotto-Dstny was created after cooperation of sponsors Omega Pharma and Lotto was stopped in 2011. Omega Pharma merged with Quick Step to Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team in 2012. Lotto created 2012 a complete new team called Lotto Belisol which becomes Lotto-Dstny. Therefore I changed the wikidata. In my opinion Lotto-Dstny is not the right path for the 1985–2004 history of Lotto and I would use instead Lotto (Q3589568). What do you think? EricSabell72 (talk) 20:35, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @EricSabell72: Hello. In most wikipedias that use the module, the "Lotto" cycling team is not divided into three different ones. And such edits break or may break the display of data for this cycling team through module-based templates.
There are several more cycling teams similar to Lotto, the history of which may differ in different Wikipedias. And for them, often all the data in "WD" is filled based on the largest number of articles. When I fill in the data for such commands, I try to do my best so that the module displays the same information and / or links to articles for everyone.
    GAN (talk) 21:40, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Gan, ok, I can understand how you doing it (no bad meaning, just as statement). I saw as well that in many other wikis they did it in other ways, but my philosophy is to do it right. Sometimes I guess that the other see an article in e.g. Dutch and they simple translate it to their language. Without checking if this information is right or not. In my opinion the Lotto cycling team have to split in different teams. E.g. Peugeot cycling team in German wikipedia was created with existence from 1906 until 2008 – what was not right. Therefore I split it into two different articles (Peugeot cycling team and Credit Agricole cycling team). As Chinese saying says: Who has made a mistake and has not corrected it, makes a second one. A penny for your thoughts. Regards EricSabell72 (talk) 08:36, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • @EricSabell72: On the team's website https://www.lottodstny.be/en :Lotto Dstny, the oldest pro cycling team in the world. An impressive story of almost four decades. The Lotto cycling teams are a household name in the cycling world. Since 1985, the National Lottery has linked the name of its strong Lotto brand to the professional cycling team. They write that their team is almost 40 years old and the Lotto company came to them in 1985.
      Plus procyclingstats.com, cqranking.com, firstcycling.com trace its history back to 1985. — GAN (talk) 09:26, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GAN: I read this as well, but official website is entertainment. Of course national Lottery is sponsor since 1985 - no doubt about that. On link Eight teams awarded ProTeam licences for 2012...9 you can read Lotto-Belisol got a new licence and Omega Pharma also got a ProTour licence, which means these are two independent teams.
For me, without knowing the one and only truth, is Lotto cycling team from 1985 to 2004 and followed by Omega Pharma-Lotto from 2005 to 2011. Since 2012 Lotto-Belisol (nowerdays Lotto-Dstny) becomes a new ProTour-Team and Omega Pharma-Lotto merged with Quick Step to Omega Pharma-Quick Step. Asian rider classification

[edit]

Hi, do you know if a page has been created for the Asian rider classification, since both 2023 Tour of Qinghai Lake and 2023 Tour de Langkawi have the jersey for the winner of best Asian rider. Since you are better than me at getting jerseys entered as well, 2023 Tour de Langkawi has a white jersey for the winner and 2023 Tour of Qinghai Lake has a blue jersey for the winner. We most likely need one Leader of the Asian classification and Winner of the Asian classification The8 (talk) 06:03, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @The8: There are two options.

- 1 st option - use a simplified version. Continental leader Q101246987 and Q101246986. And we create a “continental leader jersey” similar to Q31474628. The template will currently display as "Continental" rather than Asia/Asian. You just need to make it possible to manually change the title in the module
- 2nd option - we create for each continent (of which there are five) its own elements of leaders and, accordingly, jerseys. Add them to the Module. After this, the required headings will be immediately displayed.
Option 2 is more logical. But we also have classifications for the best national and regional racer User:GAN/sandbox#1 (without specifying the country or region). They are already included in the module. And in this case, it is enough just to make it possible in the module to manually change the header and T-shirts if necessary. — GAN (talk) 07:00, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agree that option 2 is more logical, but at the same time it is only in Asia that I have seen them have classification, at least in the World Tour and ProSeries. So can enter the simplified version, same with jersey perhaps? If it had been possible and manually changed in the module it would have been fine too The8 (talk) 07:31, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment

[edit]

Dear GAN,

I hope you are doing well,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published in a research venue.

The experiment should take no more than 15 minutes, and it will be held next week.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfA1wfdBfCRlcG3WhDyc-V8lzgPNx3fDFCNXkyn4CSwahXZ_A/viewform?usp=sf_link

Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about my project, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa

In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

— GAN (talk) 11:57, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Team names

[edit]

Hi GAN, it is useless to add "Team" in team names, because we already know it is teams or cycling teams. Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick (talk) 18:11, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On another hand, I don't understand why we don't have a translitteration in Russian on RU Wiki. In my memory it was possible and done for Arabic or Macedonian. Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick (talk) 18:13, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick: Hello.
- In "ru-wiki" we have the names of all teams in Latin. There is no source for the names of all teams in Russian. Even on Russian sites, names are often written in Latin. And very few people in "ru-wiki" are involved in the bicycle division. Therefore, it is not realistic to track the changes of all commands. And displaying some of the names in Russian and some in Latin is even worse.
- All names are taken from the UCI website. And there, not all teams use the word “Team” in their name. Accordingly, it turns out that the word "Team" is part of the team name. And in the race results of Russian and Belarusian cyclists, the flag is now not indicated according to the UCI website.

[edit]

Gradmir (talk) 07:40, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Full result"

More -> Ember"

GAN (talk) 11:07, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
