Barefoot movement is the first step, but forced action is required to decompress the environment of the metatarsals to a new and more enhanced state — otherwise you’ll just end up moving the way your dysfunctional foot dictates.  The aim is to establish a triangular geometry of the foot that enables the toes to become the widest part and the heel the narrowest.  This often involves abducting the great toe and the pinky toe, which have been the most exposed points. This is why they often form an inverted angle. The consequence is compressed metatarsals, which have paralyzed the foot fascia and intrinsic foot muscles.
