Here is a lovely quilt that you will rarely find on the market, a vintage feedsack scrap quilt. Now let me tell you-- I made this one. I used a vintage feedsack top and hand quilted it, using a cotton batting and a Mayhew print (Still can be found if you wanted to make matching pillowcases) on the backing. The Oak Cabin Quilt is a traditional hand made quilt, made with a variety of cotton fabrics. The design features a playful arrangement of patterned period fabrics in the courthouse steps style made popular in 1800s. The courthouse style is a variation of the iconic log cabin quilt design. The colors range from soft earthy palette of olive, rust, rose pink and lake blue on an elegant foundation of natural browns, ecru and umber. You don't really see the beauty of this c. 1930 quilt until you capture it with a photo. I think it sparkles with the light and dark fabric. Feedsack like, not a feedsack expert. Not a four patch or nine patch. Just random two inch squares. It is a very utilitarian quilt. Don't think I have ever seen this straight line quilting before. Looks like maybe they used a yardstick and drew lines on the back. Needs a day at the spa. But otherwise in pretty good shape.
