Now this is a family room full of fun! Bright colours, an abundance of pillows, plenty of comfortable seating, a shaggy rug and lots of sunshine. Who could ask for more!
In the foreground, there is a large custom ottoman which not kid-friendly but it acts as a coffee table too. The retro turquoise chair offers extra seating, extra colour and swivels for better TV viewing. Even the staircase in the background was freshened up with white paint and less wood.
In this family room, the fireplace used to have open shelves so we covered them in the same door style as the new kitchen. Now it can hide a multitude of kids toys and still look fabulous beside the fireplace.
What do you do with a corner fireplace other than rip it out!! You work with it. In this case, the client had plenty of art and photography to fill this large wall with an array of art work. the console under the art wall helps to ground the area and provides storage for the TV units and CD collection.
Colour makes a big difference when you have neutral coloured furniture. In the background, you will see a pair of stunning ikat drapes which frame their huge four panelled patio doors. If you've got it you might as well flaunt it!
Here you can see the colour scheme come alive with it's fresh white, bight navy blue and a touch of caramelized yellow. Look how the beachy striped rug picks up the heaviness of the dark leather furniture.
In this family room the existing paint colour was already perfect so we started to build the colour scheme around it. Notice the Windsor chair curled up at the fireplace is right at home.
Notice this low riding rustic coffee table is sitting on a set on wheels which adds to the casual feel of this room. Large turquoise ginger jars with a cork on top make interesting lamps with character!
Here is a look at the other side of the room that connects to the kitchen. The old window frame and corner shelves give a sense of the passed. Add a couple of patterned chairs with some brightly coloured pillows and you have a beautiful friendship between the old and the new!
With a house full of boys this family room needed to be casual and comfortable! Bright colourful art and accessories keep the room from being too serious.
When you have four kids, two adults, grand parents and friends, you need a large sectional! This custom built cognac coloured leather couch was made to follow the angled lines of the room to make the best use of the space. It feels like butter when you sink into it the leather is so soft!
Here is a shot of the whole family room. The chair which used to live up stairs now fits perfectly in this decor!
In this family room we up dated the fireplace and kept the existing open shelves. The original built-in had a rounded top, country style cupboard doors all dressed in oak. so we squared out the top, change the doors to match the adjacent kitchen cupboards and painted the whole unit white to coordinate with the window shutters. Not only did it make the room brighter, it also made the fireplace stand out.
This stunning Calvin Klein area carpet in it's multicoloured shades of orange and reds set the colour pallet for the whole room. Built in Cabinets were made to house the big screen TV and double the client's storage space.
