Alvin C. York Display at the Tennessee State Museum
Alvin C. York, born in 1887 in Fentress County, was a Tennesseean who fought in World War I. He famously won the Medal of Honor, among other awards, when he singlehandedly took several German machinegun positions with only an automatic pistol. He was one of Tennessee's greatest war heroes and an American hero. The Alvin York display in our Change and Challenge exhibition features many artifacts once belonging to him, such as his military tunic and Medal of Honor.
