Currently https://python-gitlab.readthedocs.io/en/stable/cli-usage.html#configuration tells you that the client library uses “environmental variables” but does not actually specify what those variables are (GITLAB_OAUTH_TOKEN and GITLAB_PRIVATE_TOKEN).
