- A chatter mark is one or, more commonly, a series of wedge shaped marks left by chipping of a bedrock surface by rock fragments carried in the base of a glacier (glacial plucking). Marks tend to be crescent-shaped and oriented at right angles to the direction of ice movement. There are three different types of chatter marks. The crescentic gouge is an upstream concave that is made by the removal of a piece of rock. The crescentic fracture which is a downstream concave that is also made by the removal of rock. The lunate fracture is also a downstream concave made without the removal of rock. (en)
- Ett skärbrott är ett spår efter en glaciär som rört sig över en rundhäll och som uppkommit genom att en del av hällen brutits bort. Skärbrott uppkommer på ytor som lutar mot isens rörelserikning och är formade som "månskäror" med ändarna pekande mot isriktningen. De sluttar jämnt (som ytan på en kon) från kanten uppströms (kanten mot isriktningen) medan kanten nedströms (skärans "utsida") är brant. De kan vara från två centimeter till två meter breda, förekommer ofta i grupper om två till tio och deras storlek ökar ofta nedströms inom en sådan grupp. I Norden är skärbrott från senaste istiden ganska vanliga i rundhällar (mycket vanliga i exempelvis bohusgranit).
