- The Silent Sun est une chanson du groupe britannique Genesis sorti en 1968. Il s'agit de la première chanson enregistrée du groupe, qui a signé chez le label Decca. Elle est produite par Jonathan King et d'abord parue en single en février 1968, puis intégrée à leur premier album From Genesis to Revelation en mars de l'année suivante. Le single, tout comme l'album, est un échec commercial. Taxé de musique religieuse, cela tant à cause du nom du groupe Genesis que du titre de l'album From Genesis to Revelation. Le groupe ne rencontrera le succès qu'au début des années 1970 à partir de leur deuxième album Trespass. Il esr réédité en quantités très limitées en juillet 2006 sur un CD single sous le titre « The Silent Sun 2006 », avec When The Sour Turns To Sweet 2006 à l'origine en face B du 45 tours. Les versions de ce CD-single sont des versions remix / remaster, également disponibles sur la réédition 2006 du premier album du groupe (fr)
- «The Silent Sun» (en castellano: «El Sol Silencioso») es el primer corte de la banda inglesa de rock progresivo Genesis y fue incluido en su primer álbum From Genesis to Revelation. Fue escrita por Tony Banks y Peter Gabriel cuando el potencial productor de la banda Jonathan King, estaba comenzando a perder el interés en ellos. Sabiendo que King era fan de los Bee Gees, Banks y Gabriel escribieron la canción específicamente para volver a capturar su atención, y lo lograron. La banda fue contratada y la canción fue lanzada como un corte el 22 de febrero de 1968, cuando comenzarían a trabajar en su álbum debut From Genesis to Revelation. Tony Banks ha dicho que: "Hicimos un par de grabaciones que a Jonathan King no le gustaron así que, en desesperación, Peter y yo escribimos The Silent Sun, porque queríamos algo que atrapara su interés." Hace uso intensivo de cuerdas orquestales y posee una letras románticas que hacen que esta canción este muy lejos del rock progresivo que tocarían en su próximo álbum Trespass. La canción, como la mayoría del álbum From Genesis to Revelation, ha sido casi ignorada por la banda, ya que no ha aparecido en ningún compilado o álbum en vivo. Por otra lado, la inclusión de esta canción en el álbum "From Genesis to Revelation" es un tanto problemática, ya que no sigue el concepto principal del álbum acerca de la historia del universo. (es)
- "The Silent Sun" (album title "Silent Sun") is the debut single by English rock band Genesis. It was written by Tony Banks and Peter Gabriel when the band's producer, Jonathan King, first discovered them, before he decided to produce an entire album, a heavy investment. Knowing that King was a fan of the Bee Gees, Banks and Gabriel wrote the song specifically to capture his attention. The song was released as a single on 2 February 1968. They would soon begin work on their debut album, From Genesis to Revelation. "The Silent Sun" is a fusion of folk rock and pop rock. The heavy use of orchestral strings and lightweight romantic lyrics make this song different from the progressive music on Genesis' second album, Trespass. The song, like most of From Genesis to Revelation, has not appeared on any Genesis compilation or live album. It was reissued in very limited quantities in July 2006 as a CD-single under the title "The Silent Sun 2006", with "When the Sour Turns to Sweet 2006" as its B-side. The versions on this CD-single are remix/remaster versions, also available on the 2006 reissue of the band's 1969 debut album. Since this is the last official single release by Genesis, this makes The Silent Sun both the debut and the final single released by Genesis. (en)

I due brani in esso contenuti furono incisi ai Regent Studios di Londra nel dicembre 1967 dalla prima formazione del gruppo, comprendente il batterista Chris Stewart. Dalle stesse sedute di registrazione fu tratto anche il 45 giri A Winter's Tale / One-eyed Hound, pubblicato nel maggio del 1968. I quattro brani in questione furono gli unici del gruppo con Stewart alla batteria a finire su disco. Il brano The Silent Sun fu in seguito incluso con il titolo Silent Sun anche nell'album From Genesis to Revelation (marzo 1969) che, per il resto, il gruppo registrò nel settembre 1968 con Jonathan Silver al posto di Stewart.
