Punkin's First Day of Kindergarten

So the day has finally arrived. Our little Punkin has grown almost instantly into a smart little kindergartner. I always thought I'd be ready for this, I was wrong. I had a lot of emotions play into the preparations of her starting her school career. I cried a little at the kindergarten round up back in May, found myself getting misty eyed at the kindergarten assessment a week ago, and holding back everything on the first day. I realized as Peanut and I were walking home from walking Punkin to school that my emotions weren't because she is my baby growing up (too fast). It is that in each of those three situations I watched my usually overly emotional, drama filled red head exude so much maturity and confidence that I was just filled with pride. I was so excited to see her walk into her classroom and find her desk and watch the teacher intently while she helped the other students find there desk. She has been so ready for school for so long.
I was lucky enough to take the day off of work to take her to school. We had a typical morning, I made sure Punkin looked extra special for school. Of course she had to primp one last time. The outfit of choice was one of her denim skirts, her pink ruffle sleeve shirt with a big glittery butterfly, and her silver glitter flats. We decided a simple down hairstyle with a few extra curls on top would work nicely. She rarely gets to wear her hair down so this was a special treat.
Next we stepped outside for our first day of school photo shoot.

And as usual, Peanut had to get in on the action. Such little posers, but cute ones that's for sure.

And then we were off. My cute girls walked to school hand in hand and I had a slight vision of them when they are older going to school together. They are such great friends right now, I only hope and pray they stay that way, especially as teenagers.
And finally, in the classroom. She found her spot and waited patiently for the learning to begin.
After Peanut and I walked over to the school and got Punkin we went for ice cream so I could hear all about her day. It was just how I'd always imagined my child's first day of school would be, but never thought possible. She was beyond excited and thrilled to be there.

Sadly, I don't get to take off work everyday, so on her second day I had to rely on the people I pay to take care of her while I work to make sure she got there on time and in one piece. Luckily, she has two little friends who go to her same daycare that she can pal around with and make sure they get on the right van. So far we have finished day three with out much problem and since tomorrow is my day off I get to walk her to school again. And I'm actually really excited for this new phase in our lives.

What's New?

Thought I'd share a few pics of what's been happening in our neck of the woods. First, we finally got Peanut a big girl bed, and since we are on a tight budget, the hunt was on for a thrifty find. We bought a new mattress set at Big Lots because I have an issue with used mattress. My parents were recently cleaning out my grandfathers house and found a headboard in the basement, or so we thought. It turned out to be a foot board, with no head. Well, waste not want not, I improvised. The only thing that made it not a headboard was the height. So I went to Lowes and bought two 7 inch table legs. You can see in the pictures how it worked out.
Before the extension.
After the extension.
Then I primed it, painted it with light pink, hated the light pink, found a beautiful shade of pink at Walmart. It's called Watermelon by Krylon. I would show you a picture of it actually attached to the bed, but one, we haven't had time and two, because of the whole height adjustment, we haven't figured out how to attach it yet. But it sure is purdy.
Here are a few other little projects that I have been working on, some are a work in progress, others are done, and are being heavenly used.
A freebie. My grandmothers neighbors had this sitting out on their lawn and were just waiting for someone to come and snatch it up. So I did. It was classic 70's plastic/wood.
Here it is, being heavily used. I took the doors off because they were so covered with dust and caked with grime I couldn't get it clean. I actually like it better, except for the fact that there is nothing to hide things behind. I had great visions of what this would look like, but it's in the playroom, this is as good as it gets.
I got these cute circle and dots from Dali Decals and the valance from Walmart. This really made the room fun.
This shelf used to hang above my sliding door in the family room. Now it holds my few collectible Barbies way out of reach.
I made this cute poster collage on Snapfish.
This is in Punkins room (surf theme). The swirls are from Dali Decals and the Hibiscus decals are from Michaels (clearance)
I bought these cute little birds from Dali Decals.
We just got another addition to the birds, but we need to repaint the lower part of Peanuts wall to put it up. I will post pictures of the final result.
This is above our bed, it also is from Dali Decals.
This last week we went on vacation just a little north of Tremonton, UT. I know, it's not that far, but we wanted to stay close to home for a couple reasons. My cousin was getting married on Friday and Saturday my uncle was going to bring my Grandma up for the day on Saturday.
It was actually a very productive trip, craft wise. I took a craft project for my mom and I to do as well as some little things for the girls to make. My mom had a really neat project. I wish I had taken pictures of all that we did but I did do some afters.
We made flowers. The small one to the right is Peanuts. It is a plate with very strategically placed glass marbles. Mine is in the center, it is also a plate. Punkins is on the left. It's a glass candle holder.
Peanuts
Punkins........it's my mom's dog Twinkie. Can you see it?
Mine was made the expensive way. Copper pipe, and a Bell clamp.
This kids had the cheap version. White pvc, the pipe was painted silver.
We each made two, we just need to get some more pipe and connectors.
The adhesive, and I know this is important, I can't remember. I do know it was a freeze and waterproof silicone. From what I can tell so far so good. But time will tell. If you want to know, message me and I'll find out what adhesive my mom bought. My mom bought some plates from Walmart, some from Dollar Tree and some she just had from previous projects. The girls had a lot of fun with it. Punkin did really well with the adhesive. Peanut just laid them out and I glued them.
