Currently trying to automate erasing machines in a lab or educational environment involves downloading the macOS installer app bundle, and then running the startosinstall binary, passing flags like —eraseinstall, —user and —stdinpass to it. Usually having to do things like <<< “password” into the command to be able to automate it. I’d much rather issue an MDM command that kicks off Erase All Contents and Settings while skipping the Activation step, as this would bring the device back into the Automated Device Enrollment flow, which is what we want. Limit it to Supervised devices, that is completely fine. This would also be welcome for testing scenarios as I constantly have to activate machines I’ve used Erase All Contents and Settings on locally. Allowing that command sent via MDM and skip that part would be a real boon for anyone administrating macOS devices.
