Have you melted yet???

I don't know about the rest of you but I am SO sick of this heat! My plants gave up, gasping for water and air a long time ago. I've come to the conclusion that if I was stranded on a desert island...it better be somewhere with a port, a breeze, and some rum. People think I'm nuts because I love the fall and winter months BUT hey, who's complaining about the heat now? Oh yeah...it would be those boobs who 'love the heat'. How's that working out for ya now? 110 degrees....INSANE! You go right ahead and love it all you want but the devil called and wants his heat back.

So we got some new furniture and a certain little 'child' was not crazy about the leather. At all. He doesn't like the change BUT he has finally come around. The look on his face: "Seriously what in the hell were you thinking? Leather? I slide all over this stuff!"

Well he has come around and finally let me get a new picture of him. He hates having his picture taken but was very patient for a change and let me snap this one. Smokey Cat, you sure don't look almost 17 years old! Handsome boy.....

"mama, dis seat forms to my butt..."

Ok, on to some fun stuff. I've been in a crochet mood again. Sometimes it just calls to me to make something and it's been doing this more time than not. First up is a little dragon I found free at http://lucyravenscar.blogspot.com/
I added the little tuff of hair to his head, and the rosey cheeks...he's been breathing too hard! LOL

I've also made her awesome Star Wars Mini Amigurumi which was a blast. I gave them to my nephew about a year ago.

This is Liam the Dragon:

Up next is Morris the Mouse!

I found Morris by pure chance while surfing the Internet at this site HERE. I fell in love with him. I was getting ready to do him in grey but the white was screaming at me. Dog gone it, when yarn screams at me, I listen! I don't want things to happen to me if I don't...yarn balls taking over, crochet hooks in protest...could get ugly folks.

Morris the Mouse was my first ever jointed crochet critter and OMG were his joints a pain in the butt to do! But the outcome was well worth it. I was going to add whiskers but then thought it would be too much.

My next crochet challenge is making Merida from Brave for my friend Stephanie (yes fabric dying Stephanie), for her wee one Izzy. I'm just awaiting the blue eyes I've ordered from Suncatchers. They have awesome eyes there. And I ordered zombie eyes too! You know where that is going.....

Finally last but not least, is Red Lady Pirate progress. I've dubbed this my 'self portrait' on the Mirabilia board on Facebook. Well, yeah! Of course who else would I be???? This is a couple of weeks worth. I haven't had the time that I would really love to give her...she is lasting a lot longer that I would like BUT it will be well worth it!

Last up is my current read:
This book hooked me right away. I haven't flown through a book like this one in a long time. If you enjoy sci-fi, pick it up. The chapters are short (like myself), and it has a great plot line that at times, will keep you going 'oh crap, I gotta turn the page!' Love those kind of books!

Until next time, happy stitching, crocheting, knitting, lint picking, nail biting...whatever it is you like to do.....

Happy 4th of July!

Hey it it hot enough out there for ya???? Holy Moley!!! I'm waiting for my yard to spontaneous combust! It's awful out there with no rain in sight....Thank GOD for A/C! Well some things won't change, that's for sure and one is the love of my country. Since 9/11, we Americans have been through hell and back but we prevail! I love everything patriotic and what it stands for. Happy 4th everyone!

Lately I took a break from stitching because sometimes the crochet hook will call to me. Well, it called this time to whip up something Trekkie. My friend Karen is a Trekkie as well and has a soft spot for Worf (who doesn't, right?). After all the scissor fobs she has made me in the past, and not to mention other numerous things, I made Worf for her very own. It was a labor of love but it turned out really cute! I used a basic body pattern from Lucyravenscar's blog spot and took off from there! I think he turned out pretty darn cute myself!

Last weekend my friend Karen and I met up with Stephanie from Stephanie's Hand Dyed Fabric and made a road trip to the Rocking Horse here in Michigan. We had breakfast, talked stitchy trash, discussed some possibilities of Fabric of the Month (can't WAIT for that to happen), and really had a great time. This was our first meeting for all of us together and we are planning to have more! It's amazing how we all just clicked like we had known each other for years! I made her a little stitchy box just as a little 'thank you' for all that she does when it comes to her great fabrics. Apparently she had to snatch it back from her daughter though...lol :D

Ok HOW could I not resist this picture??? Firstly, I've read the book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Two words. LOVED IT. I mean really how can I not have read it being a Civil War junkie??? Secondly, I did go take myself and three of the kids to go see the movie and (I won't spoil it) but they didn't follow the movie exactly but I still enjoyed it and it held it's own. My daughters are Twilight fans so when I saw this pic, I just about died laughing.....perfect. I'm a mean mom.

I love to read as much as I love to stitch. Right now I'm savoring this book, Widow of the South. And, I do mean savor. I am taking my sweet time with it because I don't want it to end. It is a brilliant book. Again, fiction wrapped around true history. I would recommend it in a heart beat. I want to find a hardcover edition for my own collection however I am finding that hard to come by. One because I'm picky and I want a mint copy and two, I'm cheap and won't spend a fortune on a mint copy...I know...picky picky...

How would my blog be without my Smokey Cat??? I am in love with this picture of my little fur ball.

'Thank you Lord for my catnip, my warm bed, and my Mama Cat and Daddy Cat who feed me"

It's been a while since I updated Red Lady Pirate so here is the end of page one:

and this is the starts of page two! Ta da! lol

Slow and steady, just like the ship she is on. Hey..by the way have you gotten any of Stephanie's fabrics yet???? Why not? What's the worst thing that could happen? Oh yeah..you could wind up a junkie like me...there is therapy for it...but I don't need help (denial) seriously I'm going to be just fine (denial) and I can walk away at any given time (denial).......(running away as they are chasing her with a straight jacket) Cheerio!

What's Up? Random stitchy stuff, that's what...

Well the summer is off and running already! Good night nurse...I wish I didn't have to work as there is so much I would love to do. Not that I'm lazy but there is truly not enough time in the day to get done what I want to get done! Geez....

First up, yet another BEAUTIFUL stitchy fob for my brand new pair of scissors! My friend Karen made this beautiful mermaid stitchy scissor fob for a pair of scissors that I won on Stephanies Hand Dyed Fabric's site. Perfect! Needless to say I had to keep it away from my mermaid freak of a daughter!

Well I wasn't thinking when I put my pictures in 'randomness' (hence the title 'random stitchy stuff' lol) but here is yet another reason why you need to order from Stephanie. I ordered two pieces of opal cashel 28 count Blue Sky to do both Bliss and Petal fairies on. I told her I was going to plan on hanging them close to each other, facing each other. Check out how 'twin like' these pieces of fabric are! It's going to be like they are sitting in the meadow together (and as I say reading 50 Shades of Gray and talking trash...lol) Beautiful huh??? Why haven't your ordered from her yet? :) You won't regret it.

I don't usually show off my kids too often buuuuttttt......
well ok...I'm showing them off...lol! This is the end of the school year in their new school. Every one of them made the honor roll for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or better (straight A's for at least 3 semesters)...three of them received individual awards in Science, Health Sciences, and History. Now, I don't normally share this but two of the kids have learning disorders. I was so tired of hearing that they couldn't 'achieve' anything. Needless to say....don't tell my kids they 'can't'. Because they 'did'. :)

Here is that randomness I was telling you about...hey you are lucky I'm blogging for crying out loud! LOL! Below is a pic of the scissors I won, plus the two cuts of Blue Sky AND a small cut of Solar Flare (to the left) and Lovely (to the right). EVERYONE should have a piece of Solar Flare. That is some awesome stuff. Screams 'Dragon, put a dragon on me!' Love it.

Introducing.....

my newest project: Red Lady Pirate by Mirabilia. I think I've mentioned before and if not, I am a truly Mirabilia stitcher. I love Nora's work. She has a beauty for art that goes beyond needle and thread. And, she is a wonderful person to chat with! I look at my stitching as an extension of her arm for the artwork. She is not stitching as fast as South Seas Mermaid but I am doing the skin over one and that is chewing up time. It has been well worth it though.

I did a floss toss and asked the ladies on the Mirabilia Facebook board which they thought looked better...of course majority rules and the right side one...those are the threads for The Lady of the Flag :) The fabric is 28 count opal Liberty from Stephanie (of course...lol) The fabric looks like fireworks.

I leave you with a little Smokey Cat fix...silly kitty. I was cracking up when I saw him doing this. So, my friend Liz at work made him into a 'I can haz cheeseburger' cat and added the text. Too funny! Must have been one of those days....Enjoy your stitchy time!
