Ice Ice Baby

Good Morning, Kittens. It's a Popsicle World in the Winter/ When the sleet covers the ground. And I have to venture forth to work. Ugh. Fortunately, I should only be working a half day. I think I am going to chicken out on my New Year's Eve date with ScooterGuy ... especially if this weather sticks around. I would rather hole up on my sofa with a kuddly kitteh, a bottle of champagne, and Mad Men Season 2. Oh, Don Draper, come give me a New Year's Kiss. *mwah* Perhaps I will even type up some sort of "end of the year/looking forward to the next one" kind of post. That seems like a unique thing to do (*cough*). OK. Must start getting ready for work. Have a great last day of 2009! *smooches*

I <3 Cashews

Good Evening, Kittens! I hope you had a brilliant day. Mine was chock full of rainbows and glitter and unicorns and pixie dust. Or not. I'm in the midst of a semi-important work project ... and another HIGH PRIORITY!!!!! work project has been ceremoniously dumped in my lap. Of course, the only reason it is HIGH PRIORITY !!!OMGWTFPONIEZZZZ!!!11111elevenz is because other people have been sitting around on their asses for 6 months. Yay. On the plus side, I am learning all sorts of interesting things about heating systems. Meanwhile, last night I went to dinner with my friend, CJ. I invited Ray to join us as well, but he was busy. We went to MatchBox in Eastern Market and ate. ourselves. silly. OMG. So much food. the bloat! the bloat! My skin is superdry. I hate the winter. I am ready for Spring. New Year's Eve is fast approaching and I have tentative plans with ScooterGuy. We may go to one of his friend's homes for a party. OR, ScooterGuy may go to Florida to vi...

Good Morning, Kittens. I hope you are recovering from your weekend activities. I know I am going through the complete Family Detox. Whew. Love my family, but -srsly- 2.5 days of them all together in one place is just about right. So, anyway, on Xmas Morning, I awoke, really really early to bus and metro to the airport. I felt like total crap. Stupid cold. DC National Airport (DCA) was pretty dead and going through security was a breeze. Lots of cute boys apparently travel on Xmas Morning. Yayz. I arrived in Greensboro. My brother and father picked me up. We went back to the house. I wrapped presents and drank lots and lots of coffee. Then, we opened presents. From the brother, I got a Barnes and Noble Gift Card (yay!). From the parents, I got an argyle sweater , a shirt and tie, a Target Gift Card, some moneyz, and several pieces of pottery. I know it probably seems weird to give *me* more pottery, but I have several blue and white serving dishes from a NC potter. That ...

Have Yourself a Merry Little Xmas

Good Evening, Kittens. Well, I did it. I finished StickSteven 2009 Year in Review: Better Late Than Never Edition . I have emailed a high resolution image to people I thought might like to have it. If you didn't get one, it's possibly b/c I don't have your email address ... or I somehow skipped over your name. Drop me an email or leave a comment and I'll get one to you tout de suite . Although, since I am not traveling with Iris the Netbook tomorrow and I'm leaving v. early in the morning, it might not be as tout de suite as one would like. Apologies. There is a crappy digicamera pic on flickr. Meanwhile, I think I'm coming down with a cold. Joy. Fortunately, Manhattans are good for colds, right? OK. I guess that's it. I'll be updating twitter/facebook from my phone. I may be able to respond if my brother has connected the internet in the new house. We shall see ... Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate it. To those of you who don...

I'll Be Home for Xmas Eve *sigh*

Image
Good Afternoon, Kittens. Here's a photo of a cute guy I saw on Metro this morning: The book he's reading is called "Holographic" (or something like that) ... Science Fiction maybe? We had early release today. Yay! I finished work at noon. And, I'm off tomorrow. Hurrah! Who wants to play? And, by "play" I mean "do my laundry" and "wash my sink full of dirty dishes" and maybe even "cook me dinner." Anyway, yesterday, I had a date with this guy, the Canadian. We have been communicating for awhile but have never been able to meet because of conflicting schedules. We went to Helix Lounge. It was fun. Good conversation. A couple of drinks. Decent food. Not a bad evening. Once home, I shot him a short email saying I made it home, had a good time, would like to see him again at some point. This morning I got the reply: "It was nice meeting you. Have yourself a merry little Christmas." Um. What? Brush off? ...

Snow Day!

Image
Good Morning, Kittens! I'm off to work today ... but, yesterday, I "worked" from home ... I did actually do some work. But, I also took naps. And knitted. And, then, K-Factor and the Canadian BF wanted to play Death Croquet. in the snow. It was fun. And snowy. And cold. And I think Eddie Bauer did not design their croquet set for cold weather use. Here we are, intrepid Snow Death Croquet Players: Then, I was reminded by a co-worker that tomorrow is my office's Round Treats Holiday Celebration. I thought it was Wednesday. Had to run to Whole Foods to buy the ingredients for gingerbread-hazelnut bourbon balls : Have great day! *smooches*

Weekend Update: Blizzard Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. I am "working" from home today. Oh, yeah. Federal government closed, but I can't take the day off. Must continue to slave for the Man. *sigh* So, you may have heard this already, but we got a s**tload of snow on Friday. No official Sligo Co-op totals, but probably somewhere between 16"-20". I am kind of annoyed because our new snow removal contractors only showed up at the beginning of the storm and haven't been seen since. Gah. ANYWAY ... Great fun was had by the residents of Sligo Co-op. On Friday night, I had cocktails with Tomokito in her apartment. SCGB joined us later as we sipped negronis and watched the cars slide into each other on the snowy hill in front of our building. Saturday afternoon, we gathered at K-Factor's apartment for food, games, and drinks. Lots of drinks. In fact, so many drinks, that we created the First Ever Sligo Snow Triathalon (loosely based on my pottery teacher's Greenbelt Triathalon...

You Wanted to See Snow Pictures?

Image
Well, we ain't got no fucking snow pictures. Good Snowy Saturday Morning, Kittens. I am making coffee and watching the snow plows and reminiscing about sunny and warm(ish) San Diego ... *sigh* The trip was good, except that -because I was in class from 8-5 pretty much every day- I didn't have time to do much sightseeing. I did get to see a lot of my hotel though, the Manchester Grand Hyatt... View from my Room It apparently hates teh gayz and teh unionz . But looks tasty as gingerbread. I was allowed outside during lunch breaks. California Seagull, aka Sea Pigeon Rumor has it that I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuv Mexican foodz. I don't know how anyone could think that. The BEST NIGHT EVER was on Wednesday, when the beautiful Michelle M picked me up at the hotel (and gave me -OMG- a Neil Diamond Xmas CD !!!11oneponiez) and drove me all over creation. We ended up in the Gayborhood, Hillcrest. I had a HUGE salad. and maybe a margarita or two. This kid must've had a margarita or twelv...

OMG, Kittens. I love the internet, because it has allowed me to meet so many fantastic people who I never would have met otherwise ... The fabulousness that was my Wednesday night in San Diego is documented here . And will be documented *here* as well ... once I get around to typing it all up. srsly. wowz. Tomorrow ... I shall type a full post. Promise. I'll be fucking snowed in, so what else will I be able to do... *smooches*

Many apologies, kittens, for the lack of posting this week. Here's a fun little teaser pic. Details coming this weekend. Promise. So much cuteness in one place should not be allowed. *smooches*

Greetings from San Diego

Hi, Kittens! I'm not dead, just uber-busy -learning a lot, meeting new people, developing an ulcer because of all the work I will have to do when I get back ... Because I don't have time to go out much, here's the view from my hotel: And, I'm looking forward to meeting the fabulous Michelle M. tomorrow! *smooches*

We Have a Winnar

Congrats, Ms. Clio Bluestocking . Not only did you impress the judges with your love him, and squeeze him, and name him 'George' comment. But, the Random Number Generator also picked you. Twice Blessed = Free Vase. Huzzah. For the other commenters, Thanks So Much! And, y'know, there are 87 gabillion more pieces of pottery. Stay tuned for More Exciting Giveaways. Grrl gotta get rid of this stuff ... before the new session starts in February. May not be able to post tomorrow ... so here's my weekend rundown. Friday: Tomokito's Bad Mommy Happy Hour at Nellie's. Then, I have a date with ScooterGuy. We're having a late dinner at a local Ethiopian restaurant. Saturday, I'm running lots and lots of errands and stuff. Updated to add : And, it's 12 of 12. And, it's my company's annual Holiday Party. Free food and booze. Bring it on, bitches. Sunday, I fly to San Diego for the week. It's for work. I'll be busy during the day, bu...

Wait. It's Only Wednesday?

Image
Good Evening, Kittens. I'm in the midst of the dryer cycle (and eating cookies) and thought I would take a few minutes to post. Work is work. Life is life. On the plus side, there may be a date on Friday (after Tomokito's Bad Mommy Happy Hour). How about we give away a Poor Little Vase Who Needs a Home? I have 20 pieces of pottery from this session. I have already picked the ONE I am allowed to keep. 6 others have been tagged as Xmas (or other) presents. Which means (if you are as good at math as I am), I have eleventygabillion pieces of pottery to get rid of ... This cute little vase, glazed in warm jade and Lisa's favorite blue, is 4.5 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide (at the mouth). It's a little heavy, weighing less than my refrigerator and more than a martini glass. And it needs a Good Home. Somewhere to be loved. Somewhere to belong. And, that, my friends, is not in my apartment. So, here's the deal ... take a look at the photos. Decide if you can...

Apologencia

Good morning, kittens. VUBOQ has had possibly the BEST (yet, tinged with sadness) long weekend EVER and he will tell you all about it ... soon. BUT, first, he must go to work, recover from his hangover(s), deal with some co-op board issues, and not die from all the crap. Wish me luck. and stay tuned. Good stuff is coming. Srsly. *smooches*

Slightly Overhung Snow Blogging

Good snowy afternoon, kittens! After many beers, 2.5 tequila shots, and side order of fries, your Friendly Neighborhood VUBOQ was too blitzed to Tequila Blog last night. Sorry. But, the happy hour with my former co-workers was So Much Fun. Lots of catching up and good times. We hope to start doing it more regularly. I didn't take any pictures, but as soon as the ones which were taken go up on Facebook, I'll steal them and post them here. The only interesting thing that happened at work yesterday was that during a very large meeting, my "sort of but not really but thinks he is" supervisor introduced me as "Erik." Um. What? My co-workers thought it was funny and called me "Erik" for the rest of the day. *sigh* My plans for the rest of the weeked ... Holiday Party tonight at CJ's. Ray will be going with me. Y arrives at some point. On Sunday, I want to go to the pottery studio to pick up my final 11 pieces. Hopefully, they will be out ...

Negroni Blogging

Kittens! I am home. Work was so much fun today (*cough*). After work, I ran errands. I picked up a pair of boots that were being repaired. I ran to Whole Foods. And when I finally got home, I had to do several days worth of dishes. Here it is nearly 7PM and I'm just starting Martini Time. When did life get to be so difficult? Oh I miss those halcyon days of boozy lunches and afternoon naps with the kitteh... *sigh* On the bright side, I now get paid a living wage. Tomorrow, my former co-workers are gathering for a happy hour. If you remember, these are the co-workers that always start the happy hour with a round of tequila shots. So, possibly no posting tomorrow (either that or extremely durnken Tequila Blogging). Have a great night! *smooches*

Martini Blogging

Kittens! It looks like I may have to transition to an Evening Blogger. Because, srsly, 530AM? Too early to form coherent thoughts. During Martini Time though? The Thoughts, they flow like gin. Today was chock full o' Fun *and* Adventure. I got up. I went to work. I worked. While on my lunch break, I ran into K-Factor's BF and his Boss at the Harris Teeter (*waves at K-Factor's BF*). I may or may not have used the term "hot mess" to describe my job to K-Factor's BF's Boss. Srsly. It is. I should learn to keep that to myself though. Loose Lips Sink Ships. After lunch (sushi!), there was a field trip to [the National HQ of the Organization Where I Work]. I met several important people who can help make my Hot Mess of a Task less Hot Messy. And, OMG, the office we were in? FULL of teh CUTE (but unfortunately probably v. str8) BOYZ. Very difficult to concentrate when CUTE BOY is explaining things, because he's all "And then this form h...

Totally Random Stuff. Srsly.

Good evening, kittens. Monday was rather uneventful ... I mean, really, you must be tired of reading "OMG. I had to wake up early. And then I went to work. And then I came home. And I was sooooooo tired I couldn't even make a martini. or masturbate. Srsly. WTF?" ANYWAYz. Work is work. Fun Little Activities which no one else knows how to do get dumped in my lap b/c I'm new *sparkles* and I am supposed to Magically Know how to get them done. Um. Newsflash: I don't. I did learn today that 1 therm = 100000 BTUs. mm-hm. That's right. And suddenly all that crappy paperwork I was given made sense. Except it didn't. Lessee... besides work, I am mentally preparing for the weekend ... Friday Happy Hour with my super boozy former coworkes. TSCA SHOTS! Saturday, Y arrives for the weekend ... to pick up the last of his stuff. Huzzah. Then, a fun Saturday Xmas Party at CeeJay's. Maybe I will take a date (not Y) since I will not know anyone (except t...

Weekend Update: Post Gorging Lethargy Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. And so passeth another weekend. One in which I did not make it out to Da Clubz, mostly because (a) I am lazy and (b) it was Too Cold. BUT, on Saturday, I did get newly blonded. See: This is about all the skin you'll ever see (of mine) here. And, then, I walked from Dupont Circle to Mike's house to return a couple of dishes. On the way, I stopped off and bought Part 1 of my present for Josh's Bloggery Gift Exchange Thing. Once home, I blobbed around, not having any specific plans ... until I got asked out on a spur-of-the-moment date ;-) We met at Mandalay, the delicious Burmese restaurant in Silver Spring. We ate. We talked. We discovered we had a mutual friend/acquaintance. At the end of the date, he gave me a ride home on his scooter. So cute! I'm not sure how interested he is. We'll see ... Sunday noonish, I had another date. This one did not go as well. He was, um, odd ... and awkwardly fidgety. I think he was expecting to com...

A Thanksgiving to Remember

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Yesterday was certainly a full day (pun totally intended, yo). It started bright and early, as the neighbors and the lovely and talented, Ms. Clio Bluestocking , gathered at 7:25AM to drive to Bethesda for the 27th Annual Turkey Chase. Originally, we had planned to run the 10K, but -under my inspired leadership-, the entire group chickened (turkeyed?) out and ran the 2 Mile Fun Run. The line to pickup packets was Crazy Long and made no sense. For the 2 mile run, there were two lines. One with bib numbers from 8000-10630 and the other for bib numbers 10631-10800. Do you see where there could be a potential problem with that system? I, of course, had a bib number in the 10100 range. wo0-to-the-hoobity-hoo. Here's a photo of the our group: And here's the crowd, surging forth into the Wilds of Bethesda: Once home, everyone showered and headed up to K-Factor's apartment for a delicious brunch. I invented a new cocktail, a riff on the Poinsettia (whi...

Wednesday is Friday and That Makes Me Happy

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. Am moving slowly this morning. I blame the weather (cold, dreary, drizzly) and the time (way too early). Yesterday, I had my scheduled weekly chat with an Energy Guru regarding my plan for my job. Then, I met Mike (who Makes Cakes) for lunch in Eastern Market. I took a bit longer than the allowed 45 minutes. Oops. It was worth it though. After work, I met Jerry at Nellie's for $1 vodka highballs. Hurrah! Christmas has exploded all over Nellie's. I'm all "too soon! too soon!" ... but, I guess, Christmas is rapidly approaching (as is Channukah, for my Jewish friends). Remember, how when you were a kid and the holidays seemed to Take FOREVER to arrive? Now, I'm all like "wasn't it Xmas last month or something?" ANYWAY, still no firm plans for Thanksgiving. I think the All-Pie Thanksgiving Spectacular will not be happening. I will probably be heading to Mike's (who Makes Cakes) for a Thanksgiving Potluck ... If I...

Spelling is Fundamental

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. One more day 'til the weekend! Do you think we can make it? Yesterday, I had to walk around the bowels of my building with some lead-based paint contractors (why, yes, my building is Chock Full of the Lead ... (and the asbestos ... and the mold ... and the radon ... and the formaldehyde)). While the LBP guys did their thing, I entertained myself by looking for spelling errors on various signs. Here are two fun examples of what I found: How many mistakse can you find? Have a great day! *smooches*

Weekend Update: Boozy Fun and Pottery Edition

Image
Good Morning, Kittens. And, another ( thankfully short) work week begins. I think I can handle three days. We'll see ... My weekend was rather uneventful. Friday night, I stayed in, watching movies and stuff. I crashed soon after 10PM (I think). Saturday, I was up early and blobbed around the house. A lot. I did a few chores. Some knitting. But not much else. Around 4PM, Tomokito came down for Martini Time. Then, around 7:30, I left for a party for two of my neighbors in Capitol Hill. The party was fun. Nice people. Good times. Sunday. Very hungover. Which is weird because I didn't drink all that much. Ugh. I don't think I ate enough though. sigh. AND, there was some stupid 10k going down the street at around 9AM with a Very Bad Cover Band Singing Bad Covers. Awful. Loud. And awful. Once that stopped, I took a long nap on the sofa. Yay. Around 3PM, K-Factor and I went to the pottery studio. I glazed my final 5 pieces and I picked up for finished ones...
