Here we go . . .

It has been almost 2 fat years since my last post.  One of my goals for the new year includes doing a better job of documenting my family's life.  This blog seems like a good forum for me personally to make that happen.  I will be going private in the next few weeks for several reasons.

The first and most relevant is that I am now helping with a community blog and many people will be trafficking the site.  Consequently, it is easy for them to find their way on to my family's, more private blog.  In an attempt to protect my children's privacy, I feel the need to go private.

The second reason I've chosen to go private is in regards to the intimate thoughts and feelings I might share as I attempt to document real life.  There will be more personal thoughts and feelings than I have shared in the past.  If that might make you gag, roll your eyes, or pass judgement, please don't read.  Spare yourself and me that kind of negativity.

That said, any of my friends and family who would like to stay connected and caught up on the Wilson happenings, please leave a comment below and I'll send you an invite.  I, likewise, love keeping current on our many dear friends.

Tears and Goodbyes

I was driving O's favorite friend to swimming lessons today and the two were jabbering away about bugs, bad guys, typical little boy stuff. Then the conversation took a more serious turn:

I: My house is filled with boxes (an other info about his upcoming move).
O: Have you moved to your new house yet?
I: No, (big pause), tomorrow?
Me: Yep, tomorrow's the big day
O: Then I won't live with you anymore and I'll be sad.

This is where one sad momma looks in the rear-view mirror to see her little guy on the brink of tears, looking at his friend in earnest. This is also the point in the story where I begin to sob (don't worry, I wasn't completely delusional and was still driving safely).

I reassured my little one that we'd visit often and even meet up at a nearby farm to play. Fortunately for kids, they moved onto the excitement of the day - swimming lessons, tramp-jumping, and running through sprinklers. I, on the other hand, am sick of all this nonsense of friends moving away. Too many tears have been shed this past month and I've had my quota for the year.

skweez

My brother rocks. He is soooo authentic, no one quite like him. Check out his company, skweez. They're also on Facebook.

California

This conversation sums up how we all felt about our April trip to California while driving home from the airport after arriving back home in SLC:

Owen: Why are we going home?
Joey: Because we were on vacation, that means it's a break from doing the work that we have to do. Now we have to come back home and work. I have a lot to get done here at home.
Owen: Well, I have a lot to get done at Disneyland. It's not working out for me here at home. It's working out for me at Disneyland.

Yes, Owen, it was working out for us in California. But, hopefully we can go back very soon.

Owen was just tall enough to ride all the roller coasters at Disneyland (he had to wear really thick socks, but hey - it worked). He loved them all, particularly the Matterhorn, aka Abominable snowman. We spent the first day in the rain, but it kept the masses away for the most part. My parents spent close to $100 dollars on ponchos, but they were well worth it. We did it all - Disneyland, California Adventure, and several character breakfasts/dinners. We were there with half the Northern hemisphere (I've seriously never seen so many people in my entire life), but we had fun nonetheless and had the Fast Pass down to a science. So much fun.
My favorite ride - Splash Mountain. Owen's there too - you can just see his little hand, bracing himself for the big splash.

We spent the last half of the week in Laguna Nigel, staying at one fabulous resort right on the beach. We were treated royally. And, we all know how I feel about turn down service.

This is the lobby. So beautiful.

I'm pretty sure people thought I was crazy taking this picture, but it is the view form the hotel gym. Crystal chandelier, view of the Pacific, I'd be a rock star if I could work out here every day.

The view from the beach up at our hotel.
The hotel grounds and view from the porch.

This is why people live in Southern California. I couldn't get enough.

Fun Day

What a fun day Owen had today. Breakfast on the playground with friends, Utes spring game, a trip to 7-11, Dale's baseball game, and a date with Holly and Kip the dog.

What could be better for a little boy? Owen suggested to me on the drive home that he would like to drive in a BMW Z3 with the top down (it was the car next to us at a stop light) to get another slurpee and then a concrete (from Nielsen's). My kind of kid.

Preschool Spring Performance

Owen in rare form: happy during a performance. Glad I caught it on camera.
