Busy Weekend
We had a busy weekend full of family and fun!
Ann (Nana) came to see us Thursday night. Mrs. Paula was closed on Friday, and she offered to watch Emily for us. Here they all are doing a little sewing Thursday evening:
We ended Sunday with some fun in the sun! The weather was warm, but not scorching, so the girls got in their swimsuits, and I positioned the sprinkler in the shade and let them have at it! Emily wasn't too sure at first, but with some gentle coaxing from big sister, she was soon splashing around too.
We enjoyed dinner outside while the girls finished drying off:
And what outside dinner isn't complete without popsicles! This was Emily's first popsicle!

Emily and Nana had a GREAT time on Friday. I was a little worried about tears since Emily seems to always cry for Eric, but all I heard was how wonderful she was! After I picked up Melissa, we headed over to the park to play, then back home to wait for Eric so we could go eat dinner.
Saturday started slow, but we headed out to Jason and Mandy's place to celebrate Jason's birthday with a crawfish boil. Melissa and Emily wore themselves out running around all over their property. There was just so much to see! Here is Melissa by the chicken coop:

We also took a look at the garden, watched the crawfish (before they were cooked), filled up small wheelbarrow with dirt and leaves, ate hot dogs, played with the crawfish (after they were cooked), and just ran and ran and ran. I had barely started driving before both girls were fast asleep.
Once home, I was surprised to see our friend Gabe! Eric, Gabe, and I chatted in the garage while the girls slept in the car, then we finally got them out since it was getting late. (I knew better than to wake them up too soon, as that was their main nap for the day!) Melissa perked up while showing Gabe our garden, but Emily was not thrilled at all with anyone other than Mama holding her.

Even though she was a little grumpy, I couldn't resist the photo op with her Godfather!

Melissa enjoyed hers, and kept showing off her blue fingers and tongue.

Emily 18 month checkup
On Monday I took Emily in for her 18 month checkup. Dr. Meyer enjoyed listening to her talk to me and answer my questions, but she wanted nothing to do with Dr. Meyer! Poor thing cried so hard while she was being checked over. She is hitting all of her milestones and doing well. She weighed in at a whopping 22 lbs, 12 oz, which is in the 25th percentile. (I went back to Melissa's records and she weighed 22 lbs, 9 oz, so Emily is right on track with her sister.) She measured 30 inches for height, which is only in the 10th percentile, but Dr. Meyer pointed out that wiggly 18 month olds are hard to measure correctly. She also received 3 shots and after the nurse told her she was all done, she tearfully repeated "All Done!". She still had a tear or two, but waved to everyone as we left.

Emily 18 Months
Emily - you turned 18 months today! What are you up to?
Mommy and Daddy and Melissa love you so much Emily! We can't believe that it's been 18 months since you joined our family. You bless us every day, just by being you!
- You keep us on our toes! You know what you want and don't want.
- You love to climb up on the couch, bed, and chairs. You have also figured out how to take the tray off of the high chair.
- You are still wearing 12 month clothes. We are about to switch you to the 18 month clothes.
- Your eyes are such a pretty mixture of brown and blue. Your hair is a light brown, almost blonde color, and very straight.
- You love your big sister and she loves you. You play and laugh and try so hard to do the things that she does. It's so sweet to watch the two of you together.
- You are enjoying Ms. Paula's house and have fun every day. I love to see you play so well with your friends.
- You love to dance and know so many songs. I started singing "Pop Goes the Weasel" yesterday and you were saying "Pop!" before I got there in the song.
- Your vocabulary is growing every day. You amaze us with the words you know. Very rarely do we not understand what you are trying to say.
- You love to brush your teeth with your Elmo toothbrush.
- You get so excited when Eric comes home from work - yelling "Dada"!
- At the dinner table, you do a great job with your spoon and fork. You also love eating cereal and milk from a bowl, and have started to drink the milk out of the bowl - just like Daddy.
- You are taking one nap a day
- You love buckles. You will sit and buckle yourself up in the booster seat, then yell "Open" over and over until someone opens the buckle, then you do it all over again.
- When you talk on the pretend phone, you are always talking to Pa-Pa
- You sleep with two binkies, elmo, cookie monster, and seahorse every night.
- You love to be outside, no matter what we are doing: going down the slide, swinging, blowing bubbles or using the chalk. You love going for a walk in the stroller or in the wagon with Melissa.
- You love to sit down with Mommy while she reads books to you.
- You always want Mommy there for bedtime.
- Your favorite animals right now seem to be elephants and cats.
- You love to blow kisses and tell everyone Hi and Bye.
Mommy and Daddy and Melissa love you so much Emily! We can't believe that it's been 18 months since you joined our family. You bless us every day, just by being you!
