With work as essential as this, the local council and certainly Holyrood should be able to overrule the Nimbies.

DISMISSING people who oppose renewable schemes such as wind farms in their area as "Nimbies" is counterproductive and could damage public support for clean energy, researchers warned yesterday.

He said: 'Their opposition is based on principle, not because they are a bunch of Nimbies as the Prime Minister seems to think.'

SIR - Your article ("Nimbies threat to green energy in Wales", November 9) sadly confirmed what I have long suspected.

Professor Gordon Walker of Lancaster University, said: "Just calling protesters Nimbies and suggesting, as Ed Miliband recently did, that it should be socially unacceptable to oppose wind turbines, is just counterproductive.
